  1. If so, I would do the MAPA event also. Bullet dodged. Managed to change a cruise that conflicted to another one that fits.
  2. Find some of the old MMO quart cans. The place I saw it helping was in engines there were designed for lower than 80/87 octane running on 100LL.
  3. What I did was join CAP and get checked out as a CAP pilot. Free flying and free MIL version of FF. And, in my CAP squadron, met some really great people.

  12. The other problem is, in many cases there are lots of customers with good experiences with the same shop. Unless, like some, the shop is rotten to the core.
  13. Back in the days when 80/87 was going away. A number of people believed that a bit of MMO in the fuel reduced the incidence of sticking valves from the excess lead. TCP worked quite well but you had be careful handling it as it was very toxic. And FYI, MMO contains a bit of TCP.
  14. To be clear, I am FIRMLY in the camp that you should be comfortable and able to hand fly the entire flight. I had maybe 15 minutes of time using an autopilot until I got my Mooney. And I still hand fly 90% of my practice approaches.
  15. No, you don't know what you will do. But by thinking about it, planning your response and briefing it you are loading the response to be what you would like it to be. Similar to bold face in the military. React with a specified set of steps without thinking about it.

  17. I wonder how may different keys there are for Mooneys? I know that for my CAP-10 the shop did not have the keys, so grabbed a random set off the bench and it fit. I remember that back in the 70s, Ford had a whopping 10 different keys.
  18. My shop does this. How many hours do you estimate to just do the checklist, without any additional things to fix?
  19. Or had damage that would lead to one blade coming off. Also, as I understand, most of the cost of repair of a gear up is the prop replacement and engine teardown. Going around doesn't save that cost.
  20. What kind of failures have you had? I do almost all my practice approaches hand flown. But do a coupled approach ever so often to remember how it goes. I also fly a hand flown, with flight director every so often also.
  21. At those prices, I would first shop around. And look at a G3X based panel. It looks like you are in VA. I would talk to SMARTS Avionics at N71 (Donegal Springs, west of Lancaster PA).
  22. TX - CT is not a long trip in a Mooney. When I bought mine, the pre-buy was done at T41 outside of Houston. I did a checkout there and flew it back to NE Maryland solo.
  23. The other issue that can cause a oil leak is an issue with scavenge pump. If it is not sucking out faster than the supply is pumping in, you can pressure the turbo. Main Turbo has a test for this. They disconnect both oil lines and stick the ends in a jar half full of oil. Spinning the engine should cause the oil level in the jar to go down.
  24. I just wish I had a DME to go with the VOR for approaches. Actually, long term, I wish Garmin would come out with a DME module that gave DME capability to the 650/750 PLUS could hop channels and do DME/DME or DME/DME/DME nav in case of GPS outage, spooking or jamming.
  25. For where you are, consider Roberto's Aircraft Interiors at New Garden (N57). He did my interior, including yokes. The only caveat is I would NOT send him the yokes, I would take the plane there. If your plane is not taking up space in his shop, he may push other work ahead of yours. I am still waiting for 2 head rests.
