  1. I have had the long version, but most times it was very short. N number, destination, altitude. Thinking about it, it seems if talking to approach, it is the short one, center wants all the info.
  2. I accept that it works this way. But I wonder WHY it does. You seem to be perfectly accepting of poor design, just because that is the way it it. Luckily there are people like me that move things along so they get better and better. If you were in charge, we would be sitting upright, in the wind in a pusher, canard aircraft.
  3. Have you gotten quotes lately? The interior quote was from AeroComfort for leather seats, exact number is $20,324. Add head rest embroidery and it is $22,037. Fabric would be less, $16,290. Panel (G3X w/ 6 cyl EIS, GFC-500 with Yaw, PS Eng 8000 audio, and install) was similar quotes from 3 different shops, $52,400 from one, the others were about the same.
  4. Basic Med can be safety pilot, but needs to BE the PIC. Which means fully meet the requirements to be PIC of that aircraft.

  7. As an engineer, it makes no sense. You sense the baro corrected altitude to capture the set altitude, then ignore it. BIZARRE
  8. My one car requires oil changes every 8,000 miles. I average a bit over 35 MPH. So around 200 hours. Interestingly, many years ago BMW had a complex algorithm for dynamically alter the oil change mileage interval. They looked at gold starts, time at various RPMs and throttle positions. And after a while, found that they could get virtually the same results by just measuring fuel used. I am not sure how specific it was to the various models, but I recall the number for BMW 6 cylinders on full synthetic oil was 600 gallons. Drive hard, burn more fuel, change your oil more often.

Hmmm, from other threads and some quote I have received Factory Reman engine - $36,000 New $60,000 Prop overhaul - $3 - $4000 Full interior from AeroTech - $20,000 Glass extra if needed Paint - $15,000 and up Panel - I got quoted $52,000 for 10.6" G3X Touch, with new audio panel (PS Engineering or Garmin), GFC500 auto pilot with yaw damper. I already have a G5, GTN650 and GTX345. Without those add another $18 - $20,00 installed. Other things - Monroy LR tanks - $10,000 or so Seal tanks - $9000 All LED light - $2500 And many more things you can spend money on.
  11. More resistant does not meen they actually test the octane to that level. I could make a 110/150 fuel, but only if you officially test the fuel, using the required test protocol to 99. The fuel is rated at 99. But it might actually perform better, but is not tested/certified to the higher level.
  12. But the 297 needs to get some signal that says that with the current baro setting, THIS is 10,000 feet. Why they would not use this to correct for a new baro setting makes NO sense at all.
  13. And the person acting as PIC needs to meet the requirements to BE PIC. Ratings, currency, endorsement, medical.

  16. My former boss had one that he was felling off for about a day, and then it started getting worse. They put in 8 stents. EIGHT. About 15 months later, he went home from work, went downstairs to do his cardio exercises (prescribed by his cardiologist) and never came back upstairs.
  17. Except that from what I have read, G100UL is 98 octane or grade. Or something like 98/140 with lean/rich rating. In that case, your TDCS prohibits the use of it without the STC.
  18. Leaded fuel for road use was not banned until 1996, not 1976. My 76 Corolla did not have a cat, so, I would buy leaded when it was available and cheaper. But by the early 80s, you did not see it very often at stations. Also, from when EPA did the ban in 96 - "EPA said fuel containing lead may continue to be sold for off-road uses, including aircraft, racing cars, farm equipment, and marine engines. So AVGAS was specifically excluded. Leaded race car gas can still be purchased. Many race track have a pump or two with leaded race gas. And a pump or two with unleaded race gas.
  19. OK, that is good. So you are saying that the KAS-297B only gets a correction for baro setting upon level off? Then it holds the baro pressure altitude?
  20. It is now collectable. Even rare vehicles go down in price over time, then they start creeping up, then go higher and higher. Since this is one only what, 3 - 4, that makes the value more. I have a collector car. One of 116 sold to the public. I managed to buy at the low point, about 8 years after they were made. Now, coming up on 30 years old, it is worth about 5 times what I paid for it.
  21. So who do you go to when your grocery store raises the prices? What can ANYONE do when a private entity raises prices? And AOPA is at least lobbying for clear and publicly visible fees for airports. To put pressure on those gouging.
  22. IIRC, G100UL tests out to over 130 rich. So actually safer for boosted engines than 100LL. I saw somewhere the warbird community is really looking forward to this fuel.

  24. You just have to be careful aligning it. It is a close fit, but when you get it aligned, it slips right in. I will say, be careful and apply a good bit of down force on the handle, or you may just grid a flat spot in your tire.
  25. How did the FAA give them a monopoly? ANYONE can come up with a competing product, and sell it, once they jump through the hoops of approval. But now, the actual path to that approval is clear, as they cannot change the path. There is nothing stopping refineries from making and selling 100LL. And if there is a market for it, they will. GAMI is just the first with an approved product.
