  1. Wise choice, but if the consensus on this forum is correct, 100LL is going to be rapidly made unavailable. I guess we just hope the consensus is wrong. It also seems to me that MikeOH is consistently misunderstood although I don’t know how he could be more clear. He simply makes the point that if there are only two choices and the government eliminates one of them, that is in effect granting a monopoly to the surviving choice regardless of legal mumbo jumbo to the contrary. He also made it clear that if at least one competing choice were offered as one poster intimated would happen in Q1 2023, he would be quite satisfied.
  2. You nailed it!! Well said!!
  3. Yep, the fist of government squeezes a little tighter every year. One day that ship will sail with our last vestige of freedom.
  4. Are we confusing an STC with a patent?
  5. Thanks GeeBee, that was an interesting read. I had no idea of the impact of that decision on our society. From what I read it was also used for precedent in allowing Obamacare to force citizens to buy health insurance. As some noted, it certainly moved our country further from the notion that our federal government is one of “limited and enumerated powers.” I guess that’s okay when the government only gores your neighbor’s ox. But how certain are you that your ox is not next? At any rate your observation that the ship has sailed may be entirely correct. The government can do anything they want to those who fall out of favor. I wonder with what favor does the government look upon folks wealthy enough to own and operate their own airplanes? Just food for thought.
  6. Does that mean we will have to buy two STC’s?
  7. Exactly!! That’s the point.
  8. I sure hope you are right, but the cynical side of me fears that any bureaucratic accountability is smoke and mirrors.
  9. AMEN!! Our culture has been so under assault by government bullying that many no longer even recognize it, much less stand up to it. Next step will be the FAA hiring 10,000 gun toting ramp checkers! LOL!
  10. I know I am not as technologically astute as most of you and I may be missing something, but to me the issue is not dollars and cents. For the FAA to demand I produce a paper proving airplane gas is safe for my airplane even though they just declared airplane gas is safe for airplanes is so incoherent it smacks not of a safety concern but just plain bullying. This is why I so detest the requirement to get an STC. I don’t care if it’s free. As far as the fellow who developed the fuel, we are going to be buying his product!! How is he being stiffed?? If most of the consensus on this forum is true, his product will be the only fuel you can buy! Can you imagine going to the store to buy an electric fan for your bedroom and being forced to provide a government paper declaring your bedroom is safe for an electric fan? If that was the case, I would suggest that fewer folks would buy that electric fan thus harming the manufacturer of said fan, not helping him! What I am I missing?
  11. Years ago in the Marine Corps I had a training mission to take jumpers to 10,000 feet in a CH-46. ( Tandem rotor Boeing Vertol BV -107) I didn’t like that one bit. Not only were the controls mush, but I was thinking please don’t let me get a transmission chip light!
  12. Reading all these posts makes me feel like a yo-yo. I don’t know anything about how this will play out and if we will have to buy an STC, pay a hundred bucks a gallon or argue till we go blind, but I do know this: If a government bureaucracy in charge of aviation safety grants approval to a particular fuel, endorsing the safety of that fuel to the extent of denying access to the previous fuel, and that same government then not only mandates an STC for the consumer of that fuel, but grants a monopoly to the fuel supplier, that government is logically incoherent and morally repugnant.
  13. Wow! And that is enough to cause nose gear drift on the runway! I am impressed you fellas even noticed. I could stare at that collar for a millennium and not see it. A lot of savvy guys on this forum!
  14. Am I understanding that this picture is of the plate incorrectly installed? The thicker plate is on top, but should be underneath?
  15. Thank you for offsetting so much gloom and doom! I was about to hang a for sale sign on my plane!! LOL!!
  16. I sure hope you are wrong, but have a sickening feeling you are right on the money. I am beginning to wonder why I bought this airplane.
  17. Sounds to me like a J model would be an excellent all around choice, though I cringe to think of any Mooney in a club setting. Transition training for all the pilots is a must. One bad porpoised landing and your airplane will be grounded for a long time. Mooney’s are wonderful airplanes and have enabled my wife and me to visit grandchildren and other family to a degree that was utterly impossible in a car. We are comfortable, but not wealthy so the efficiency of our plane is also a significant consideration for us. 11 gallons an hour in cruise is a beautiful thing! We have a 1979 K model which suits our mission to a “T”. Our closest son is over 400 miles away so the turbo makes sense for us. Good luck in your hunt! Torrey
  18. Those are very nice looking pieces and I see how the angle turns the iPad toward the pilot side, but how is it all tied together and mounted to the instrument panel? You are obviously skilled in this 3d printing process while I barely understand how it works!
  19. Can you elaborate on the wedge to mount the iPad? very nice interior! Torrey
  20. Wow! I am not the OP, but I am a new Mooney owner and new to GA. Thank you for that excellent education!
  21. Jimmy Garrison is a straight up guy and knows his business. Call him.
  22. Outstanding description! I have had my K model for 6 months but had no idea that is how the system is set up. Fortunately I have had no problems, but if one should develop at least I will now have an idea of what could be occurring. Torrey
  23. Absolutely thrilled for you Irmin!! That is an outstanding accomplishment!
  24. At least the airplane is beautiful!! Lol!
  25. Pretty sad day when even innocuous government correspondence causes your heart to jump into your throat.
