  1. Reading the title, I clicked quickly thinking you just got an STC for a Rotax
  2. Why not the cargo door? It came in handy for me in a similar scenario. My predicament was maintenance induced. A MSC did not secure the latching bolts, and they shifted in flight.
  3. Luck or superior planning?
  4. Happy ending - I never received the notice, and I thought I shouldn't call the officer to enquire as to its whereabouts.
  5. How about a non-ATC violation? Crossing the border, I filed the eAPIS. I mixed up first and last name fields on the manifest form. eAPIS was cleared as filed. I landed at KBLI to clear immigration, officer discovered the error, and I was promptly cited for "illegally transporting immigrants". Got a letter a couple weeks later from CBP. The fine: $50K! After a bit of crying and pleading they said they can waive if I can submit a satisfactory written procedure for preventing such mistakes. I sent one detailing how I would print the manifest, and with a pencil, verify all fields are correct. Couple months later, I filed another flight. While holding short waiting for take off clearance to KBLI, I got a call from CBP. Officer asked whether I noticed we are no longer allowed to put a "-" in the aircraft registration (used to be you enter C-ABCD, now just CABCD). It was a small note on the eAPIS I overlooked. I apologized, said I was holding short, and asked whether I should cancel. She said I can proceed. Upon landing, I got cited for "illegally transporting an aircraft". Since it was my second offense, they wouldn't let me off the hook.
  6. There are couple threads in here. General idea is to remove the top layer (a solvent works), clean, and apply a coating (spraying works). You get a result like this.
  7. Hypothetical, suppose you settled on the highway under a canopy - would the outcome be worse? I suppose flying over cars to land makes you more visible...just speculating.
  8. I can attest that, with ANR headset, you won't hear a thing. With a passive headset, you can hear just fine.
  9. 10 kts would be dangerous. is that much loss accurate? I don't recall noticing an apparent performance loss the couple times the door came open. Would be great if someone could do an experiment....
  10. Missing bolts? Sounds to me you are confusing things - are you sure it wasn't Boieng you took it to?
  11. Is it just auto throttle, or does it include "fadec" as well? Will the $15k be installed?
  12. Now you are forcing me to google what engine is in my car ....
  13. Curious why you consider switching, aren't those Austros perfect for Europe?
  14. No, no trouble with temps. The high power setting recommend for break-in accelerates the airplane to speeds that are unsafe in the environment. One option is to go away from the airport - not a great one. Another is to increase drag.
  15. Lots of trainers around you doing 80 knots, and ATC likely would prefer you stay below 2000 ft, so slower is better.
  16. After major surgery, you want to stay nearby for the first hour
  17. Yes, gear extended speed is 165.
  18. I formulated poorly - yes, the intention is to run at high power and stay within recommended temp range.
  19. In last engine break-in, this fire-breathing dragon was reaching 180 KIAS to keep the CHTs up. We have another break-in coming up, this time in busy controlled airspace. Was wondering: any issues against leaving the landing gear and speed brakes extended to keep the speed in the 130-140 KIAS range?
  20. Is the fleet doomed in the short term because of no parts availability? Or are vendors filling orders directly from owners?
  21. I believe the issue is that the manufacturer needs get involved since the unit is part of TC. I recall DA40 owners were frustrated because Diamond wouldn't or couldn't. If that's the case, the question would be: will Mooney certify an upgrade path?
  22. I believe Rockwell Pro Line in the Premier 1 does this. Very cool project - I'd be interested lending a hand, DM me. And if you are talking SDR - it can be a base for new innovations down the road. How about getting ATIS in text ...
  23. Any practical tips on how to accomplish that?
  24. I didn't feel I was in distress, I'm still not sure that was an emergency that warranted priority handling. There was no rush to land, only the need to stay out of the way.
