  1. You might find this useful for creating your post- maintenance pre-flight routine: https://youtu.be/lTi1qKbwoAU
  2. Followed @Marc_B suggestion, removed the laminate and cleaned it. Looks better now. Will try to add a film and see how it looks like when installed back.
  3. Nothing inside the tanks will surely optimize the excitement....I prefer the suboptimal situation with fuel inside
  4. Is this up to 89, 102 or 130 gallons capacity?
  5. Ours is pretty worn out. Tips on how to renew?
  6. Thanks! So I checked revision 6 of the supplement, that limitation is no longer there
  7. Comforting to know that it works. But also troubling not knowing how it might fail. Will there be a red X, or did we replicate the vacuum gyro failure mode? Hopefully @PT20J can share some insights. Had I known about this limitation, I would have made a different purchase decision. With the old panel, GPS loss was a minor annoyance. With the new panel, it will be a show stopper. Do we need now to check GPS NOTAMs for enroute portion, not just for the approach?
  8. I was reading the G3X POH supplement for the Mooney yesterday. Under limitations, it says IFR operations are prohibited without a valid GPS signal. Made me wonder what the NAV is there for, looks like GPS is a single point of failure.
  9. This is something I recommend you practice. A humbling experience. I did that a month ago in a simulator. Weather was right at minimums. I briefed how I'd go missed in the turn - the plan was to turn left direct to the hold. As I was turning right base I went IMC (not anticipated). I decided a quick change of plans was in order since I was already in the turn. I continued the right turn, initiated the climb, and engaged the auto pilot. I cleaned up, then looked at PFD and discovered I was climbing wings level to I don't know where. I engaged the correct auto pilot mode and was back on course. If there were obstacles where I was flying towards.... Lesson: stick to the plan. Making up a new plan while going around in IMC is dangerous. No room for mistakes. In this case I was in a simulator at an airport with no obstacles in all quadrants. Another field in a real airplane....
  10. Thanks for researching, this is great. Side question: do you have tail wind subscription?
  11. I took the opportunity to consult https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_90-101A_CHG_1.pdf Looks like we'll never have this capability: dual FMS, dual autopilots, dual ADS, and IRU ... But then again, did we not debate no one will ever upgrade to glass...?
  12. For a few AMUs , Garmin now offer this : https://www.garmin.com/en-CA/PlaneSync/ You will also need $30/month for the convenience
  13. Does that mean the scale is different if I select vector to final? If that's the case, I hope no DPE get ideas
  14. The airplane has been flying like that for at least 3 years. Is it an incredible luck that no fire ensued, or is that a testament for the robustness of the electrical system? I want to believe it's the latter.
  15. The avionics shop was doing continuity test and noticed a problem. They traced the problem to a spacer that was shorting bus bars inside the CB box. Appears the spacer was forgotten there sometimes in the past. It was freely moving about causing arcing. It was shorting one bus such that the bus would be hot when the avionics switch was off. We never noticed an issue with the airplane. However, we did have an issue with the battery sometimes depleting overnight even though everything was off. Not sure what lessons can be drawn from this. But if you do see strange battery depletion issues, you should run continuity tests.
  16. Does your iPad have GPS? If not, you need an external GPS. There are quite a few compatible products you can choose from. Some are only GPS, some additionally provide backup attitude and ADSB traffic and WX.
  17. Interesting playing around with this. So if seatbelts retains prevents you from hitting the panel, very survivable.
  18. It's been a while, if I remember correctly, you go to flight plan, and scroll through the way points
  19. If you want to kick the upgrade can down the road, DM me. We have one sitting on the shelf from our on-going panel upgrade. No idea how much life remains in that thing though. I'd say, the GI275 recommendations above are better.
  20. As you said, at least one of us would die. Not necessarily from blunt force trauma or toxins - more likely from a shock induced heart attack
  21. How long does it take to regain consciousness, say, if the A/P were to descend down to breathable altitude?
  22. Suppose you have VNAV capabilities, would this be an effective poor man's hypoxia mode? 1. Dial up a VNAV waypoint in your navigator down to 12K 2. When you get close to TOD, change the VNAV waypoint to the next If you don't respond, the A/P will take you down.
  23. Is it easy for snakes to get in? I'd imagine crawling through the engine and air vents isn't trivial. Even with open doors, it must be tough to get up the slippery surface. Perhaps they can drop in from the hanger roof. We have seen stories here, always wondered how they made it in.
  24. Let's test that assertion, shall we? I hand you a cheque for that amount and the reigns to Mooney International. Will that be enough?
