  1. You should see all the popup clearances when there's a single cloud in the sky!
  2. I vote we do a new report on the mooney next.
  3. I dont think its fear more than its the "oh boy one more thing to file"
  4. that must be for what it is, but i cant find a reference for it in the user guides. i know the 2 green lines is for the GFC500s ESP system.
  5. oh very nice! looks like you got the OAT as well for them!
  6. What was wrong with your G5s?
  7. The simple answer is how much remaking of the panel do you want?
  8. I never knew about this feature and now i hate it even more, ha!
  9. Most likely if you dont want to attach things to the yoke, you'll either need a new yoke or to drill hole into your yoke itself.
  10. "citation 123, .8 please" "We're a citation, .73 is the absolute best we can do"
  11. How would you even close the baggage door if it opened it flight?
  12. Some may or may not have it, depending on the year it was made. For every AP though you should be able to turn them of and put them into heading mode and see if they try and chase the heading bug, and then if the AP disconnect works. That is a very simple ground test.
  13. 1- AP tests are as easy as turning on the AP on the ground, putting it in heading mode, and seeing if it moves the controls. 2- Most engine heaters (iirc) are aftermarket and thus wont have many references in the POH. Most of them are the same as like engine block heaters, they plug in with an extension cord and just stay on as long as the cord (or internal sensor) is working.
  14. Somewhat. From my understand is it has to display the same information as the factory gauges that where in the plane. So even if the new stuff show more, it has to show the original stuff on the main/primary screen. iirc
  15. iirc it took my shop a month to install the G5s, but i also got a few radios and other things installed at the same time. The G5 will NOT make the 530 a WAAS unit. The only way to do that is have garmin do it, which they dont anymore, or to trade it for another 530 that has WAAS. If you're looking for a direct replacement i believe the avidyne units are direct drop in replacements for the 400/500 series.
  16. A worthwhile upgrade in my opinion would be dual G5s. Its pricy though. Would sync really nice withy your 530 im pretty sure. The 275 is just a better G5 that has much better AP support iirc. Otherwise refurbish your existing units. It will be much cheaper.
  17. With the number of us here (4 now that i know of) we could start a band!
  18. 2400 rpm, 21mp at the time, ROP. After landing and top off calculated a 9.4gph burn. Id says the E can do pretty good.
  19. Given that the M20E is a IO-360-A1A at 200HP and that the J is a IO-360-A3B6D also at 200HP... i dont think there's gonna be much. I hate you for this, but you are correct.
  20. do you have a link or any other information about this?
  21. Im drawing a blank on this key number thing you're talking about. can you explain that to me?
  22. I ment 2400 rpm and 23 in. Im always used to rpm first for some reason. Id imagine our C and E are practically right on top of each other in terms of everything, with the E being just slightly faster. Either way you look at it, these are some great airplanes!
  23. Not that they're always real world (or equal years) but a quick google for a C and E poh shows at 5,000ft and 24/23 M20C: 162mph/141knots 13.4gph M20E: 181mph/157knots 9.9gph It also shows the C is at 76% hp while the E is at 69% hp for these settings.
  24. I very much disagree with this. If you plane has an AP, learn how to use it because you WILL be test on it on a checkride. You need to be able to answer what you can and cant use your AP for in your airplane. 5 - 6 months should be way more than enough time to get an IFR. Casually ive gotten people an IR ticket in 3 months of training and flying once or twice a week. Paper is good for practice, but its the modern age, use an EFB. Its just better. Just learn how to use them without the geo referencing.
  25. Things to look for are more features you want in the plane already, as getting them installed later will not be cheap. If you want a new Garmin touch GPS, make sure the plane is coming with it! The E model is "better" than the C, but some people will debate that to no end. I personally like the E over the C dude to the fuel injected engine and 20 more horses, but the C is an amazing aircraft and most those o360 engine are bulletproof. My E model so far has averaged 9.2GPH in cruise at 148TAS. I imagine a C would be 10 knots less. I can tell you its better than the piper arrow 2 i was flying before in terms of speed, but everything else is debatable.
