  1. Great weekend for the Missile! Other owners got their long awaited insurance checkouts from a super knowledgeable fellow Mooneyspace CFI. I am not instrument rated and other owner not current. We were able to shoot a couple simulated (VFR conditions) approaches at ALO and the dual G5’s and autopilot worked fantastic. Learned a lot during our interior/under cowl and walk around inspection/pre-flight. Icing on the cake was the newly checked out owners flying our bird on his first solo to Weep-No-More (Paul Beck) for a tank re-seal. (Original sealant on mains have had some patching and will get a strip and seal) Aux long range tanks will get a patching (as needed). Looking forward (already) to having our girl back for more adventures.
  2. Need another 100+...
  3. If you are going to crash an airplane that looks like a beautiful place to do it. Gorgeous, except for the bent metal on brand B...Harrison’s golf course choice was also excellent for scenery.
  4. Question: Why would the GA flight in your example by 3AMU’s? We’re you just using this as an “audit” comparison on price? I have worked for employers that were fine with using a personal aircraft for travel with reimbursement based on mileage. Others? NOPE. It is liability concerns (killing myself or killing others and damaging property)...
  5. The best humor to me is when you are cringing and uncomfortable...Most humor comes at someone or somethings expense. We need to be able to identify and be relieved it’s “not me”...and then it is...oh crap. LOL. Jimmy and Bill are my favorite standup guys right now. I am constantly going “Oh no, don’t go there”....and they do. Nervous laughter ensues...Priceless.
  6. I prefer to just “ignore” the idiocy rather than be Dr. Doom & Gloom. This shall pass. Winners and Losers are being FORCED by government intervention at ALL levels. Depending on “who” writes the history this overblown boondoggle will be clearly called out for what it was: An overblown boondoggle. No offense to Dr. Spock or anyone else that has a differing opinion. The ONLY thing that will destroy the U.S. economy is/was BAD decision making and the enemy within... I just bought a new car today. Buy low sell high. Living in fear is a bunch of wasted time. I prefer to consume in moderation and push it to the firewall once and a while for a thrill. Life is good. Come out of your bunkers. The only thing we have to fear is fear...and bad decisions by those in power.
  7. Why would anyone EVER leave the holideck? Just say’n
  8. A good company doesn’t undercut in an unsustainable fashion and then give >50% increases )based on their unsound underwriting practices) to LOYAL customers that have been flying safely for years with them. We call them “whores” in the industry. In P&C there is always one to reward bad insureds with an option...UNTIL they don’t. They move to another street corner or “the John” puts them in the dumpster... I would prefer steady Eddy to Dumpster Dan...
  9. A 51% increase is F.U. Territory. Bye. C Ya.Why? Because they can. Thankfully there are other markets that don’t gouge like a M.F. Glad you landed with Republic at 7%. THAT is a reasonable increase that can be justified by market conditions. Hey everybody. Don’t forget what Global did this year. Reward the loyalty down the road by other carriers like USAIG and Republic. The Pox to Global... Shame. SHAME. SHAME!
  10. If I in any way made you think that I thought the floats (gauges) and the annunciation lights were independent systems I apologize. Not my intention or belief.
  11. So in your fathers scenario the tank did not read empty when the tank was empty because of a poorly maintained sump drain? Was this a Mooney? My 1980 tank gauges have no significant swing and they read accurately. I have a low fuel light in addition to the gauges. I guess beech from that period sucked.
  12. Is there even one documented accident scenario where fuel leaked (whether from tank or fuel line/system failure) where the pilot was unaware and an off field landing/accident resulted in all of General Aviation, not necessarily Mooney specific? There are lots of fuel mismanagement accidents, but can someone share a documented account of this impending crisis? I would very much like to read about that. Thanks in advance for sharing. The fear factor is a powerful motivator. I’ll take some data before I spend thousands for that wiz bang upgrade “fear fix”.
  13. Cut Two. I need one too. I’ll send a PM so you can give me mailing address for check. Thank you!
  14. Oh you’re out alright. Quite an exit though ;O
  15. I had a Yamaha Seca 650 Turbo. Over a 100HP back in the day. Wicked straight line boosted fast. Used to wax 1100’s. Speedo only went to 85MPH. Only five gears so pegged it was about 126. 600lbs of full faring 80’s awesome. Featured in a Bond flick back in the day with minimal modification...’cause it looked like it was from the future. Shaft driven. A docile cruiser below 5500rpm and then “WHAM”, “SLAM”, THANK YOU MAAM on boost....... Best bike ever. Stupid fun in a straight line.
  16. Ahhhh young apprentice’s that is “The child” from The Mandalorian series. First season was quite entertaining. It sits a-top a custom Ruffed Grouse Cribbage board on top of an original “Badger” brass fire extinguisher...Office “must haves” Yes...Take you to the annual I will...hmmmm, not a Jedi yet are you.
  17. New Tires? Check. Digital Volt/Amp gauge? Check. Fuel flow harness for 830? Check... When you look forward to an annual. Priceless.
  18. Gotta love the ads. CB Fun on Mooneyspace...
  19. A Mooney is ALWAYS a great intermediate (where big tin is inconvenient or impossible) time machine making getting to the adventure a pleasure. Having “friends” share in ownership is AWESOME
  20. First world problems in deciding whether or not to buy an airplane. RV, Boat, Saunas, Hot tubs, Pools, Building supplies are in high demand right now as folks choose to continue to live their lives modifying their leisure plans... When international and Disney are down a park or a lake or your back yard are pretty awesome alternatives... Now buying any of the above in a coupe years will likely be a buyers market. Life is to be lived. I prefer optimism and planning over fear and concern. Paying down debt is never a bad idea. Cash is king. Always.
  21. Bought my aviation sunglasses from Sporty’s. $70 bucks. My stick on’s (free because my wife didn’t use) work great. I would recommend trying different types to find one that works. My sunglasses are tinted enough that you can not tell they are there from the outside. (Vanity secure lol)...I really like the tint of the Sporty’s model. They stay on well too. (Both reader stick on and sunglasses)
  22. They are faster, but YES driver matters...a lot.
  23. So since this thread is completely off the rails, a question for you. I was really excited to drive a 1982 manual targa. When I drove it I did not care for it. Reason? The left driver footwell. I could barely get my foot on the clutch it was so damn tight down there. I was so worried about missing a gear that I had zero fun. It was very deflating. I am sure with time in the car you adapt, but damn that footwell on left side was TIGHT...Do you have any memory of that?
  24. 12% Increase with USAIG through Falcon. $120k Hull No deduct. 1M/100k. Based on market I am going to go quietly forward and hope for better days ahead.
