  1. Very cool. How much useful load did you lose with the full 3axis 4 servo package? (I am assuming you got the electric trim)
  2. Well....if you're installing it per an STC, you're supposed to have permission to use the STC to alter the aircraft....
  3. Where in the world does this come from? Putting a different prop on, installing a JPI EDM 900 or a Garmin G5 via STC is a Major Alteration. That's how you "alter" a certificated aircraft using approved data and submitting the proper 337 paperwork. If it isn't via an STC, you can do it with an FAA field approval or other FAA Approved data. Experimental is different category of aircraft and has nothing to do with proper major alterations.
  4. We all do understand that the purpose of this "article" is to sell a service, right? I could go inspect any 50 year old aircraft and provide a laundry list of items that if you were to have all of them corrected it would cost a lot of $$$. (....Rust on valve covers. $200....right....)
  5. That was great! Thanks for sharing!!
  6. Just in case anyone wants to know, I got some information from Mooney. Tube PN 915033 measures 18.99" from the center of the fixed rod end to the end of the tube up until 1976. In 1976 the rod dimension was increased to 19.18". However, the PN did not change. I guess Mooney eventually recognized the problem I am having today. That .2 inches would make all difference for what I am doing. Anyone know where I can find a late model tube? All the ones I found searching are from early models.
  7. Thanks Skip. I have contacted Mooney and Lasar. And I agree with you on going thru the entire procedure. When I got the replacement shafts in and saw that it was off that was the direction I went. The aileron bell cranks out in the wings are right (measuring the 4.3" from the spar web and ailerons are about even with the flaps. The center bell crank is correct and approximately 1/16" off of center and the yokes/shafts appear to be correct. Maybe I am missing something, but that control tube is the only thing that makes sense. I was hoping someone had an old tube laying around or had their aircraft all opened up and could measure it for me. At least I could eliminate that. But if that's not what it is, I am really going to be scratching my head....
  8. And just to follow up, I got a Lycoming belt and installed it last night along with this shiny propeller!! Makes my old girl look 20 years younger! Still have to finish it up and balance it this weekend but I had to share.
  9. Thanks cbarry. That's exactly what I thought at first. I can tell you that when I removed the old shafts, the LH side control tube was shortened as far it would go and the RH side was extended as far as necessary to level the yokes. This would cause the center jack tube to rotate clockwise and allow the tube to work as installed. With the new shafts installed I had to shorten the control tubes to get them centered and level. Now the jack shaft mount is level with the yokes level (I think the way it should be) but the rod isn't long enough to adjust the center aileron bell crank to 1/16" left of center as required per the rigging procedure. So something is up. Maybe I am missing something but as much as everyone thinks Mooneys are complicated creatures, this is pretty straightforward. Just be nice to know how long that tube is supposed to be and then I could either check that off or source the right one. With yokes adjusted and leveled. Mount where control tubes attach to jack shaft from yoke shafts
  10. I am in the process of upgrading my shafts and yokes and have run in to a problem. After installing them and leveling the yokes the rod going from the jackshaft to the aileron center bell crank isn’t long enough. Reviewing the different IPCs, there are multiple different part numbers for this rod and I am beginning to think that somewhere in the last 50 years someone may have installed the wrong rod. Does anyone know the differences between these PN rods? Does anyone know the dimension on this rod (PN 915033-000 Tube Assy or 915033-003 Tube)? Maybe there is a magic decoder ring for these rods?? Thanks
  11. So I am in process of replacing my propeller and figured it was a good idea to replace the alternator belt while it is off. I was researching on here for recommendations and part numbers and saw a lot of references to Gates belts. After getting the part number of the belt on my aircraft (Lycoming PN 37A19773-376) I thought I could find a alternative belt. In Googling things I came across this FAA InFO and this information on the Gates website. Just thought I would share. Guess I will stick with the more expensive Lycoming belt (that is probably made by Gates anyway...). https://www.faa.gov/other_visit/aviation_industry/airline_operators/airline_safety/info/all_infos/media/2015/InFO15007.pdf http://gatesbeltsandapplications.blogspot.com/2010/01/aircraft-applications.html
  12. I was curious about this a while back when I first got my Mooney, so I emailed Lycoming Technical Support. They answered very quickly with the response below: "Operation in this range during cruise flight for any longer than necessary should be avoided due to the restriction. Typically short periods of operation in a restricted range such as during landing or transition to a different power setting would be acceptable but should be avoided whenever possible."
  13. I'll take a look in the downloads. Much appreciated.
  14. I am upgrading my yokes and this trim switch came installed. The yokes are from a 79 J model. Any idea what the PN of this switch is or if it came from Mooney? Just looking for a wiring diagram. Also in addition to the up down for the trim, it appears to have a push type switch on the top. Is that for an AP disconnect? It isn't labeled. Thanks,
  15. The G5s have an internal GPS antenna and it works ok in my installation but you can have an external antenna hooked to it if you want. I also have a GNX375 for position information for it as well. You can turn off the G5 HSI and just use the Attitude one. It will display heading and course information independently. The GMU 11 only draws .5 amps. You won't lose all electrical power if you lose your alternator. You still have a main battery and it will last a long time if you shed all the non-essential stuff. Just don't turn on your landing light unless you have an LED.
  16. I used these clear labels https://www.onlinelabels.com/materials/clear-labels they have them for inkjet of laser
  17. It does and they have been used interchangeably for a long time now. I was just trying to have some fun and add more fuel to the word fire.
  18. But....is it a license or certificate?
  19. Ok. I was able to find the nutplate on the Lasar site when I search without a dash "22NA1K-62". Are these nutplates in the tank really not capped/sealed?? I have one that is weeping a bit and tried to give it a little more turn and it doesn't tighten. Before I drain the tank I was going to have the parts on hand but maybe I just need to get in there and look.
  20. Thanks everyone. I contacted Mooney and they suggested a NAS1473A3 but that is a 10-32 nut plate. I think a NAS1474A06 will work but not sure about rivet spacing. Monroe does have a bit of everything. Also this Military Fasteners place is a good go to for pretty much any hardware. https://military-fasteners.com/nuts/self_locking+nutplates/NAS1474A06
  21. I am trying to locate a valid part number for the nut plates for the inner fuel sending units on a 1969 Mooney M20F. The number listed in the IPC is PN 22-NA1K-62. I am unable to find that particular part number anywhere. Does anyone know if these are still available or if there an alternate? Thanks
  22. How did it handle as he broke the sound barrier? Any vibrations or buffeting?
  23. That's what I did. Went from this: To this: I have a GNC 255 on it's way to me now and just waiting for Garmin to approve the GFC 500 for the F model. Also have new style yokes to go in at the same time.
  24. The shop at TYQ (Zionsville) is FirstWing https://www.firstwing.com/location/first-wing-jet-center/
