  1. At 00:27 in the video, is that an electronic deviation chart in the copilot window? I have up to 11 degrees of magnetometer deviation in the air with my new Garmin magnetometer/GI275. Garmin doesn't have a fix, so I am having to use a paper deviation chart for my new magnetometer. What system are you using to display the deviation? Tom
  2. REALLY! Just spraying lots of water on the windshield will scratch it? Same with rain?? NOT!
  3. I have 3 GI275's and I am glad I kept my old ASI, VSI and Altimeter. The ASI and Altimeter are hard to read on the 275 and the VSI is almost impossible for me to read on the 275. Tom
  4. Anyone have a set of 3" extensions they want to part with? My M20K didn't come with Mooney legs.
  5. Just had to replace my throttle cable in my 231. McFarlane promised to build and send a new cable within 4 days but It took 7 weeks. Didn't seem to be any other choice.
  6. My GI 275 HSI's have 2 bearing pointers. Each HSI can accept signals from 4 sources (2 VOR's and 2 GPS's). I have a Century 41 autopilot and I cannot adjust AP altitude with the 275; I have to use the UP/Down button on the AP to adjust altitude. I believe the 275 altitude bug is to alert you when you get to the set altitude whether by hand flying or autopilot.
  7. Looks like a compact solution to mounting an iPad. Do the magnets interfere with the compass?
  8. When I practice in my 231 I pull the throttle back to 100-120 knots. Same as I did in a 172.
  9. How did you get an annual done in less than 2 weeks? I have never found anyone who could do it in less than 3 weeks.
  10. That is a great diagram. Looks like my culprit is the gate that shuts off the air from the muffler. Thank you.
  11. Thanks for the info. I get warm air with both closed so something is wrong.
  12. Good to hear that I am suppose to get cool air when the heat is shut off. My annual is coming up and I will have the mixing box looked at. Thanks
  13. On my K the fuel selector gets too hot too touch bare-handed. When I push the heat control to the closed position I still get a lot of hot air. Is this typical of the K or do I have a problem? With the heat control in the off position and the vent full open I still get warm air through the vent near the fuel selector. In the winter I need to fly with heat off, vent open. In the summer the plane is way too hot. Is it safe to just plug the heat outlet or does air need to flow through that vent to prevent the heating system from overheating. A deflector with a shutoff like used on cars would be helpful.
  14. I use the 12V ground power supply from Aircraft Spruce: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/portPowerCharger.php I love it. Just plug the ground power into the plane, turn on the master switch and turn on the ground supply power. Viola...power to the panel to play with new avionics. I use mine a lot.
  15. Wow! We are all very passionate about the planes we own and don't own. It seems I made a bad decision to buy my 231 and should probably sell it. Maybe I should wait until my GB engine starts having all the problems posted here. So far no engine problems in the 5 years I have owned the plane. I wish the rest of the equipment on the plane was as dependable as my GB engine has been.
  16. In October I had a JPI 900 installed. It turned out that the K factor written on the JPI transducer was way off. It is very easy/quick for the pilot to adjust the K factor. What I did was pick a low number (27.0) to assure that the 900 was showing that I used a lot more than was actually used and then adjusted the K factor up 0.5 to see how much 0.5 affected the quantity "Used" and then slowly adjusted the K factor up until the JPI "Used" value was correct. I realize you don't have the JPI transducer but this procedure gets you to the correct K factor quickly and accurately.
  17. My 231 has a GB-1, a Merlyn, an intercooler and a JPI 900. My hottest CHT is 330; hottest EGT is 1375. Oil runs 195 during climb and 180 at cruise. Any benefits to my installing GAMIs?
  18. The GPSS issue is a safety concern. In October Garmin said there would be a GPSS fix in about a year. The fix might include a separate/external GPSS button. That is great, but a year is too long to wait. We all need to contact Garmin to put pressure on them to fix this issue quicker.
  19. I have a new JPI 900 and the original fuel tank sending units. The installer set up for the 4 sending units and I know the calibration was done because the installer said he did the calibration and the tanks were completely full when I picked up the plane. Since my original post I have found out that the sending units should usually be rebuilt or replaced when installing an engine monitor. I will be installing new Cies digital fuel sending units.
  20. Has anyone been able to get the factory fuel gauges to work with a JPI 900. On my new JPI 900 engine monitor the fuel gauges always read full even when the tanks are less than half full. The installer said he ran the required JPI calibration procedure; I believe him because the tanks were full to the filler rim when I picked up the plane. Occasionally the gauge will read close to correct for a second but then reads full 99% of the time. Any ideas will be appreciated.
  21. When I did my panel upgrade I was unaware that CAN BUS 24 was an option. I am curious whether other Mooney owners have used CAN BUS 24 in their upgrades. Any reason not to upgrade to CAN BUS 24?
  22. I have 1 EMU-11 driving 2 GI275 HSI's.
  23. I don't have the installation manual for the 275. Garmin said it is available only to installers. I read that other pilots have had a problem getting the manual. Are you available only on the weekend? I was thinking of having Frank do an oil change for me; of course that has to be a weekday. Then I could do both on the same day.
  24. Is it possible for me to do the re-calibration? If not, since you are in Tempe, do you know of someone that can redo the calibration? I know I have a GI275 but the Part 23 AML STC Maintenance Manual for the G5 (Rev 7, 5-8-20) says the reading for the G5 should be +/-6 degrees. I am not sure why 10 degrees is acceptable for the GI275 when using the same GMU 11 for both the 275 and G5. I have had many report of GI275 users having their readings right on.
  25. The magnetometer is installed about 3 feet in from the end of the left wing. The installer said he did the magnetic interference test and and the calibration and when he contacted Garmin about the inaccuracy, Garmin said there is nothing in the GI275 software to make any corrections.
