  1. While this is obviously very bad, there was a Mooney many years ago that left Palo Alto, CA to go to San Carlos, CA for cheaper fuel and didn't make the 10 miles and ditched in the bay.
  2. I might have one from my 80 M20J, I replaced all the switched about 16 years ago when I redid the panel and held on to all the old ones. DM me if you'd like me to check for it.
  3. The previous owner of my M20J had the door pop open on the takeoff roll. He aborted and the door has a very slight crease from it that reminds me to lock it each time . I did forget once and wondered the entire flight (I remembered on the climb out) if it would pop open, luckily it didn't. This past weekend just after takeoff my wife asked if the baggage door was latched, she had watched me lock it but wasn't sure, I appreciated the double check but asked her to remind em before takeoff
  4. The issue isn't the electrical wiring but the cables that connect to the control points (push/pull tubes, etc.). They need to be removed from the servo, reinstalled and then rerigged. While it isn't really difficult, the location in the tailcone of the long bodies makes it a painful job and one that can benefit from someone of smaller size (I don't fit well back there and am definitely not flexible enough).
  5. I guess they need a smaller person who fits into the tail. Seriously though, I hope they get this done quickly and correctly for you.
  6. Do you know it is not all the way up? It is just that the motor doesn't stop running, if so it might be an issue where the up limit switch is sticking when cold and not turning off the motor. I would expect the circuit breaker to pop in that situation though.
  7. Don, sorry to hear that, I presume by cabling they mean the control cables, not the electrical ones as they are trivially easy. I don't know why a Bravo would be significantly harder than my 201 other than maybe a further reach into the tail.
  8. All 4 of mine were replaced in less than a day so I think you should be good with the reimbursement if your shop has experience with GFC-500 installs.
  9. While I don't disagree the GPS should be in the base model, the GPS is actually part of the cellular modem that Apple uses. It is believed they are desighning their own modem chips so maybe then tyhe iPads will have GPS without cellular.
  10. Jeff, Check out https://static.garmin.com/pumac/2888_Non-GarminDisplaysPilotsGuideAddendum.pdf, There is a section that describes the controls and displays for the 9900B on the 430W. Adam
  11. Jeff, Is it a 9900 or a 9900B or 9900BX? I know at least for the 9900B, there was a volume for the traffic alerts on the TCAD setup page on the GNS 430W. You should be able to just set the volume to zero. Adam
  12. Thanks, I didn’t realize inspection alone would be sufficient to count as an OPP.
  13. I have the LoPresti Cowl on my M20J and it is difficult by myself but easy with a helper. Not really much difference between the 2 and 3 blade prop in this regard.
  14. Used springs can be found at some MSCs. I offered to hook them up with Mark at Top Gun who confirmed at the time he had used springs. I'm not sure an OPP would work here though as each owner needs to be involved in the process and I doubt the spring manufacturer would produce them one at a time. I would expect a PMA is necessary.
  15. I would contact Peter Marshall from MT to get manufacturer guidance. His contact info is: peter.marshall@mt-propellerusa.com Phone: (386) 736 7762 Extension-204
  16. @laytonl here is the RFQ for the annunciator: Gear annunciator.pdf
  17. I try to be below 120 (typically 110-115) before dropping the gear and start with partial flaps at 100 which gets me quickly to 90 for full flaps. I try to be kind to my plane and this just feels right.
  18. Wow, I was thinking it was the yoke casting that cracked, I didn't realize it was the shaft. Must have been a scary situation.
  19. Based on the listed discrete inputs it isn't clear that it can help much with annunciations unless you have the EIS, which will handle volts, amps, and low fuel. Nothing for gear and others you might have. After installing the EIS, for my M20J, I only had the gear left (no vacuum, ram air, etc. annunciations) so I used an Eaton style annunciator for the gear and was able to remove the annunciator panel. YMMV depending on what annunciatios are in your annunciator panel.
  20. I'm curious what programmable options you are referring to, these are the only discrete inputs I'm aware of, is there something I missed?
  21. Dan, Thanks for making me think about this, I'll definitely look into it and see what I can work out.
  22. Interesting, I actually haven't thought this process through before. I have two hangars, one I lease from the county where I get my tax bill from and one I own in another county that never sends me a tax bill for the airplane (I get one for the hangar). I wonder how that works out? The county where I get my tax bill has higher taxes that the other one. Since my plane spends its time half at each, I wonder if I can change it somehow.
  23. I think it is a little of both. Some owners I know have a hard time accepting that the manufacturers TBO isn't because of extensive testing that shows it will die soon afterwards. I also think flight schools flying the planes very often eliminate so many issues that are caused by inactivity. As many here have said, it is better to buy a plane that has been flown often than one that has been sitting.
  24. I'm in the SF Bay area and 100LL fuel around the area runs from a low of $4.90 to a high of $11.35. Definitely worth shopping around.
  25. I've had several changed over the years, Top Gun never drains the tank and barely spills a few ounces of fuel.
