  1. Well at least Santa Clara county in CA has already banned the sale of 100LL and that was before the G100UL announcement. The statewide ban has been moving through the legislature for more than a year now that I'm aware of. The bans were not caused by G100UL being announced.
  2. Yay, I can't wait!! I haven't been to one of these in awhile now and I look forward to seeing all the Mooney pilots and drink some great wine.
  3. I'm probably missing something but what is it you want a schematic of? The wiring is CANBus so it is wired to a standard. The routing/ordering between devices on the bus is based on installation, not required by Garmin. Also, there is no wiring changes as part of this SB, it is a software update.
  4. Yes, all of my equipment is registered in fly.garmin. I used to get the emails but I haven't gotten one in a couple of years now.
  5. I've signed up in the past yet never get any SB alerts. I just checked and couldn't find where to try to sign up again. Do you have a pointer as to where/how to sign up?
  6. Trek, I appreciate you say that but my experience is it takes at least a week and sometimes much more to get a response to an email to aviation.support@garmin.com. I don't really mind waiting as I would call for critical things but there is no status to give a sense of whether you will ever get an email response (and once or twice I've never gotten a response).
  7. Will definitely update when I can try it out. I asked the airport folks recently and they didn't seem to know anything about it either.
  8. I'm based at Reid Hillview (RHV) and AFAIK we only have Swift 94UL, I haven't seen nor heard of any G100UL as of yet.
  9. The AV20S as I understand it does not have GPS it gets airspeed from the pitot static connections. I just installed one also as a tie breaker but haven't really learned it yet.
  10. You can disable auto zoom from the menu under map setup. You can also set the max and min zoom levels it will soom to when auto-zooming.
  11. I think one important thing is to go out and fail things and see what happens. There are certainly installation and configuration issues that can cause bad outcomes but you can test this by failing each and every device one at a time or in combination to see what the results are. In my case, I have turned off the avionics master to see what happens along with pulling each circuit breaker in turn. I know what the failure modes are and I completely agree with Skip that this has a better MTBF than the vacuum pump and iron gyros I used to fly with. I happen to be an electrical engineer and I design consumer electronics so I have an understanding of the risks and the benefits and decided to remove my vacuum pump. While I know my failure modes, I do fly with an AERA 660 and an iPad with an internal GPS to augment my GI 275. I'm likely going to add a GDL 50 in the near future as well.
  12. I'm in for lunch at WVI whenever it works out to be. Maybe we can do Harris Ranch after that?
  13. I'm very sorry I couldn't make it today, glad there was good attendance and good weather. It the next one is on a Sunday in Watsonville, definitely count me in!
  14. I checked with the writer of my umbrella policy and they explicitly exclude aircraft.
  15. I've replaced mine 3 times over 27 years. My IA (at the time, Tom Rouch now Mark Rouch) made me aware of it when I bought the plane and always tracks it as a time limited item.
  16. What is the status of the Mooney Recognition lights?
  17. Sorry, doesn't look like I can make the 22nd, hope you all have a great time. Would love to join next time there is a group lunch.
  18. An advantage of the GTX 345 over the GDL 88 + other transponder is that if you have a GI 275, the GDL 88 will not display traffic on the GI 275 but the GTX 345 will. Now that I have the GI 275 as my backup ADI, I'm considering swapping out my GDL 88 and GTX 327 for a GTX 345.
  19. I have standard injectors and have never had a fuel smell with ram air open. I typically only run LOP when higher (as it is a little quirky down low) and that is where I will also usually have ram air open.
  20. Well it's Adam but I can deal with Scott
  21. Mike I have to disagree here, the factory ram air on my J gave about 1/4" MP increase which was not noticeable in any real sense. The LoPresti cowling gives me 1.25-1.5" MP increase and that certainly does impact TAS at altitudes where I would be WOT. Overall on my J, the LoPresti cowl gave about a 7kt increase above 8K', much of that from the MP increase and some from drag reduction. I had the first one that was installed and have been very happy with it for the past 13 years I think it is. It is a very expensive mod though (if it is still available) and might not be worth it for most typical J missions.
  22. Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you meant you wanted the choice of them, you are correct, when I'm using the 4 in 1 as I do, I only get one optional data field.
  23. Check section 8.7 of the pilots guide, you can set the field to the other values, even when in 4in1 mode (I have done it on mine): 8.7 ADI - MISC. FIELD (OPTIONAL) The Misc. Field on the ADI can be configured to display True Airspeed (TAS), Ground Speed (GS), Air Temperature (OAT, ISA, TAT), or Wind (Direction and Velocity). Displaying True Airspeed: 1) From the 'ADI' Page, open the menu and select ADI Options > Misc. Field. 2) Select the TAS Button to toggle True Airspeed. Displaying Ground Speed: 1) From the 'ADI' Page, open the menu and select ADI Options > Misc. Field. 2) Select the GS Button to toggle Ground Speed. Misc. Field Display ADI - Misc. Field - Ground Speed Display Displaying Outside Air Temperature: 1) From the 'ADI' Page, open the menu and select ADI Options > Misc. Field. 2) Select the preferred temperature option, ISA, OAT, or TAT. 3) Select the button to toggle Temperature.
  24. Crown Air at Montgomery field used to be a well respected Mooney shop, I haven't heard much mention of them recently though so I'm not sure of their status.
  25. My understanding is the new system they recently released only requires the crash sensor (and its battery) to be replaced every 10 years and that is supposed to be a few hundred dollars. I think I got that from an Aviation Consumer article but might be wrong there.
