  1. You are correct!!!
  2. Well, Jason, most of us know about your attitude, in general.....LOL I got a taste of it when I was at Lasar, if you remember...LOL. TOTALLY kidding my friend.... Anyway...there are adjustments that are supposed to be done when the aircraft is level when you are setting these units up and doing configuration. I am sorry that you are dealing with this and as a bit of advice, Aspen just came out with a new processor that is faster and better. I just sent back 13 of the ones I have here to get the upgrade at no cost to the customer. Maybe see if your local shop can take care of you for this as well. It is for all Evolution MFD and PFD units.
  3. Ahhhh!!!! SO Mr. " @gsxrpilot " the truth comes out eh!!!!!????? LOL
  4. Is any other Avionics Shop checking out their installations prior to delivery or not? My Goodness this chaps my behind!!! Sometimes I cannot stand being grouped with shops that have the same "Profession" as ours. It is true, you need to reset your course to reflect the same as the CDI. Should you have an issue still, let me know. @bd95r any luck with yours yet? If not, shoot me an email with details. I am in contact with Aspen virtually everyday, not for issues, just because we are close to the Reps and Technical folks. Let me try to help
  5. That's the one
  6. I actually advocate more for the customer by far. I am currently working with a manufacturer with someone who isn't even my customer. I feel it ultimately lies on the manufacturer to figure it out but we are all in this together and need to look past finger pointing. I am not saying that you are doing that at all or anyone is. The advice I offer is recommend what my opinion is but help to educate the customer to the best of my ability. Once they are educated, they make their decisions based on their wants, needs and thoughts. I feel most manufacturers are over zealous about their products and I know that most shops do not know what they are doing when it comes to quality work and knowledge of true avionics integration. They pretty much rely on the Tech Support that the manufacturer has but little do they know they sit in front of a computer looking at scripts and they come, mainly from the industry and they are really not that good at what they do and that lead them up to driving a desk. Just my opinion. I also think customers like household names and big box stores and that is sad to me when the quality just isn't there.
  7. Can you send me the logs please? Gbaker@bakeravionics.com
  8. God made some perfect heads and the rest he put hair on!!!!! Check out our website and you will see my dome!!!!
  9. I totally agree and pointing the finger is easier than figuring out the real problem/issue. It is what it is and we are all in this together! We just need to put our heads and experience to work together and solve issues one by one.
  10. Correct Configuration!!!! Also check the NAV ARINC as well toward one of the last pages. Be sure it is set to VHF 429 ONLY!!!!!!!
  11. It seems like there is a loose connection, to me at least. We have installed a ton of these and are continually selling them, as we are the highest selling Aspen Dealer in the Western Region(plug for us), and we haven't had any of these issues. Now, is the bundle double shielded and have the overbraid? Does it happen when transmitting on the radio and if so, which frequencies? It truly sounds more like a bad crimp to me. Call me if you need more info or if you have time so I can maybe help out. Also, Where are you located and did the same ones who installed your unit install the one for @NJMac?
  12. There is a single connector on the back of the Aspen. It seems like there is a loose connection, to me at least. We have installed a ton of these and are continually selling them, as we are the highest selling Aspen Dealer in the Western Region(plug for us), and we haven't had any of these issues. Now, is the bundle double shielded and have the overbraid? @NJMac Does it happen when transmitting on the radio and if so, which frequencies? It truly sounds more like a bad crimp to me.
  13. Well said and agreed!
  14. Never too much to ask! Will need sponsors though!
  15. I couldn't agree more....to an extent. There is a difference between putting products out on the market and putting test, quality products on the market.
  16. I totally agree, as stated before, however the units you reference are one items that are really not viable. The DFC90 uses STec servo's and is really the brains of the system. How many Mooney's are equipped with STec 55 series servos? Think about their business model and how that makes sense. BK and a "box like G5", again why try and compete with a company like Aspen who has the E5 that is superior to the G5 system and concentrate on that single unit to make little money after the investment. They have an ROI just as you do as an aircraft owner. I feel you are a Garmin Die-hard, which is not a bad thing. Just know that companies have budgets as do aircraft owners.
  17. So, just to make sure I understand and I am truly not trying to undermine your thought here, but you think whatever is available now, go for it!? I understand your point and it is very well taken, but just buy what is available now no matter what is on the horizon? Then why have these types of discussions and why have research of the newest things coming out soon? Sure ALL manufacturers disappoint, it's just to/on what are they going to disappoint on? There is actually good things on the horizon in the new year. This part of our industry is going to be turned on it's head if people make educated decisions because now they will have more choices. Whichever way they choose, it's a good thing all because they will have more precise and bast knowledge to make a better decision for them and not be minions because of a household name like when retired folks shop at Costco to save a buck but come home with 40 lbs. of beef that they process into freezer bags that gets freezer burn because they couldn't eat it fast enough or they give away their other 2 bags of Cheerios to their brand kids because it may go stale before the year 2036. "Satisfaction right now" shouldn't be a reason to our reason to purchase units for airplanes. "Have patience, educate and prepare" is what we promote here at the shop. Good on ya!
  18. I believe the plane, as stated in the original post is everything is basically on point. If the rest of the plane is in good shape, deck the friggin halls and rock around the proverbial tree folks!!!
  19. Dynon- $30k installed with engine monitor w/o AP (high side, all options to include Syn Viz, blah blah blah) NGT9000R- $7k installed PM450B- $3500 installed Avidyne IFD540 and 440- $30k installed TruTrak/AeroCruze 100- $11.5k installed $82,000.00 GTN 750 and 650- $30k installed FlightStream 510- $1500 GMA35c- $3500 installed GFC500- $13k installed (2 Axis) GTX345- $7500 installed G3x- approx. $20-25k installed (Depending on options, hard to estimate on specifics) $80,500.00 I believe the other units were referenced, as far as pricing is concerned, earlier in the thread. It really depends on how much you are getting your equipment for. Now, the Dynon has a built in ADS-B system(if you wanted to use it's integral one), you seemed to also have left out the WiFi and BT capability for the GTN series as you would like to have that because you are trying to upgrade and get maximum capability out of your investment. Your functionality in the comparing Audio Panels are unequaled because the PM450B is far superior. Further, the installation labor is virtually identical so it is a wash, really. So, which will have better functionality, better priced and are better units overall? Well, PS Engineering are the best for Audio Panels, hands down because it is what they do. That IS Mark's business and has been for decades. Dynon has been doing the Avionics Suite for a long time as well in the Experimental market and their price point for what they offer is phenomenal. ADS-B L3 has been doing Traffic and Weather better than anyone else back when their units were BFG. Again, like PS Engineering, they are the best in that market because it is what they do. Now, GTN or IFD? Well, again, my opinion is if you want a top of the line BASIC GPS, go with Garmin, they are the best GPS on the market and always have been. However, I will preface that by saying we are talking about FMS systems in this case and if you want a better FMS, Avidyne leads the way on this, hands down, once again it is what they do best! Not to mention the IFD series comes out of the box with Synthetic Vision, WiFi, Bluetooth and FLTA (Forward Looking Terrain Awareness) all for no extra charge and usually are less than the GTN series. Also, think of the 2 options given here as one is like Apple (Garmin) and the other is like Microsoft (The others). They all play nice together and with pretty much anything. Taking NOTHING away from Garmin, they are getting pretty proprietary and you are being forced to get units that ONLY have their branding on them like iPads and MacBooks. While they are good at what they do, nothing about them is warranted to put them head and shoulders about anyone else because there is really no concentration on anything of theirs anymore. Although the GFC500 is a really good AP, but can ONLY work with a G5. How does that make sense? If you purchase a TruTrak or an S-Tec, you have choices. That is huge, in my book. I have customers that love Garmin and customers that love Avidyne and others. All of them are right and I agree with them and their choices because as long as they are educated, they need to decide what is best for them. I am glad to offer them whatever they decide. The above, though, are just my opinions and reasons behind them. FWIW. Please no throwing of rotten tomatoes, just giving my 2 cents here!!!! Go easy on me! LOL
  20. @LANCECASPER, You definitely can for sure! The Dynon isn't too terribly expensive and will have plenty left over for other things. We are in the process of 2 currently between Aspen and TT systems on PA28's.
  21. PMA450B IFD550 IFD540 NGT9000R- controlled by the 550 MVP50 Engine Monitor MD93 Clock/USB Charging Aspen 2500 MAX with Syn Viz/ADS-B and AOA Unlocks or 2000 Max if using G5 (See Below) iPad Mount on RH panel with IFD100 App for added Situational Awareness AP Options- GFC 500 with G5 for feeding the AP only or TruTrak (When Available) or S-Tec 3100 Just my less than 2 cents worth And have plenty of money left for fuel and drinks when we are done with it.
  22. IFD is far superior and has Bluetooth AND WiFi off the production line
  23. Dewey and the crew does do good work!!! Kudos where Kudos should be given!
  24. I totally understand where you are coming form and just want to help. I will try and find the justification, but part of it is just experience.
  25. Hahaha! Yup, guilty! Most of my lack of hair comes from kids, marriage and trainees. LOL. Garmin addresses a lot via SB processes that are mainly founded by and from tribal knowledge, to be honest. Avidyne is the same. However, most of the time it is about understanding HOW things work over time and WHY things are there. Mark, a good friend for many years (PS Engineering), has many references about "Transmit Interlock" connections and why they are necessary. People can rely on manuals but they are JUST guidance and not the Bible for the units. They are strictly a depiction of what the certification hook ups were. Common sense and experience has a lot to do with the industry not to mention Avionics. People, these days, try and use the "book knowledge" to their advantage when really, it is, like the FARs, guidance. As Lt. Sam Weinberg states in A Few Good Men: you keep after the way you did suddenly our great cross looks like a bunch of fancy lawyer tricks, there's a difference between paper law and trial law The same applies here. There is a difference between the basic hookups and how it should be in the real world. We tell the kids who come out of A&P School and the military the same thing. Everything you have read in the manuals and learned in school, forget, figuratively, this is where you learn and figure out how things REALLY work.
