what happened ovation converted to Garmin units

just finished an ovation conversion Garmin 275's, and 750 XI navigation, GFC 500 4 servo's system, did conversion in steeps with the last part being the auto pilot. Existing G275 units were originally installed when vacuum system was removed and HSI converted to G275 setup to feed the BK system as at that time, GfC 500 was not certified for our setup. upon certification, the 275 units were converted to Mod 1 by sending the units to Garmin and no charge for conversion. we were originally going to use BK auto pilot but repair cost for control head was way to excessive. Thank you BK. when converted to GFC 500 the system became alive, all kinds of new features became operational on the G275's, the beauty of Garmin integration with function display alt hold, alt call outs, heading changes via auto pilot and not having to touch the G275 to change settings ( except baro). these changes really remade the flying experience. between the 750 XI data ( had garmin480) that's available, its a new plane. in the long body we added the YAW servo, its operation was really a surprised on how'll well it made the plane fly, turn it on and off at different times during the 4.5 hr flight back home flight. it surprise us how much difference yaw made to the aircrafts flight. Ovation has air conditioning and oxygen, in order to work in the tail for installation, oxy and air systems were removed and reinstalled, other wise there not much room in the assembly to work in there, also because of AC, Garmin supplied a special bracket to hold servos.

finish conversion to Garmin gfc 500 have 3 good servo's left over is there any use for these its or do they go in trash can
-
check pacific coast avionics traded a good cnx 480 in on a Garmin gtn 750 xi system, really a superior unit, traded and converted because support was non existent and the unit was bases on ups teck, not garmin teck and they took the ideal and ran with it to build what they have today

ovation with JPI installed, about 10 k for mod, as moritz unit was unrepairable, then the vacuum system was removed and king HSI replaced with Garmin 275's installed, now cies fuel senders install as old senders were failing and now GFC 500 installed as king unit was unreliability. it all started because Moritz display was un repairable which today we still love the display and the way it looks. JPI has been wonderful and was easy to upgrade to 310 HP conversion

what is the proper way to use rudder trim , do you press on rudder to provide take off trim and adjust setting or can you adjust trip by press trim control with out touching ruder trim, seems to work better when pushing rudder then adjust and seems to work best preadjust trim before take off, when there is no load, once Gfc 500 is installed will it do trim adjustments, comments from a Guy who had a laim KFC auto pilot which has never been up to par.
-
was wondering ,is there a separate trim motor for rudder trim , or does auto pilot motors work on this trim, under going a GFC 500 conversion and not sure how rudder trim is setup

had the chance to fly a Porsche, push the u shaped throttle to go fast ,pull back to go slow , no air cooling worries, its automatic, no fuel adjustments, its automatic. got to watch the valve adjustment most complicated procedure, took the guy about 4 hrs to adjust gear train lash, there were 2 persons that were qualified to do gear train adjustments on the Porsche Mooney. one on the east coast and one on the west coast.also used automotive spec. oil

What is the typical weight of factory air conditioning?
flysamo replied to Flyboy10's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
believe AC unit is driven by a electric motor, can tell when compressor is on, amp meter draw jumps to 11 amps from 2 amps for a short period. early ovation have ac inlet located bottom of air frame, Mooney changed air inlet to top of aircraft so ac could be run on the ground during taxi. happy and easy to use ac and air blower controls which are nicely placed and cabin ventilation works very nicely so doors don't have to be open on the ground for ventilation -
depending on what dash # you have, if its a kap dash 15 like we had it was estimated a 5K for repair of ckt board, if its earlier we had a loaner while waiting to up grade to a new auto pilot. there are plenty of trade ins available, just plug in mooney modules from your box or maybe its time to trade up

thought I was done modify my ovation, now Mooney has mentioned a carbon cowl will be available, supposed to be lighter, talk about removing weight from the nose, wondering how hard and expensive will it be to retrofit my ovation. will be interesting to see availability.

jpi mount custom made when moritz could not be fix, JPI vertical mounting fit space requirements, slowly learning to use left hand for G275 heading bug. not in love with knob placement but getting use to setup, one item we really like is pushing tuning knob in on hsi aligns nav and heading bug in a one touch motion. weight saving was 20# for vacuum system removal. lots of data is now displayed. fun to tune different setting. looking forward to GFC 500. will have alt. preselect on new system, new to me. we did a custom panel for JPI with brackets in back of panel, just did not want to go thru a new panel again for G275 setup. Our kap 150 system was starting to go to the dark side, Our kap 150-15 box was was $5000 for a new control board, rebuild pitch servo/clutch $4000. wasn't to hard to go to a GFC500 once garmin approval was issued G275, GFC 500 and long body setup

GFC 500 conversion for long body is scheduled in 3 weeks, good BK 150. Garmin is making conversion parts available for ovation, but not sure when parts are available for install, plenty of J 's have been converted but long body's are just starting. Was trying to decide on GFC yaw damper, after flying in turbulence's and watching the tail wiggle and ball going back and forth on the G275 for an hour going without yaw damper. cost for yaw servo $1320 and install kit $795. so here we go. We are now just about complete Garmin equipped. G275 units, GNX750 xi, and GFC 500.

Mooney drivers who have the Garmin GFC 500
flysamo replied to Little Dipper's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
have Ovation with G275's installed, on schedule to convert to gfc5oo in 3 weeks. this will give us majority Garmin equipment looking forward to auto pilot conversion from kfc 150 -
we removed our cnx80-mx200 about 2 months ago to install 750xi, quite an up grade and its different, but the features are worth it, garmin data cost less then jepperson, most of the expensive cables( call a gold cable) should be so its helps in the $ amount
