  1. My girl also has strobes on the tips and tail. Also, i'm another that leaves the beacon on perm.
  2. yes, you can run either/or/both. I was planning to remove my beacon but ended up replacing it with with a redbaron. Aveo Redbaron XP Galactica LED Anticollision - Certified | Aircraft Spruce
  3. if i remember right, you can probably just buy a new one for the price of an overhaul
  4. if the planes are in equal condition, I'd buy the dynon plane. Buy the plane ready to fly not ready for the shop. Dynon and g3x are about a wash and now that dynon has an AP STC for the K, not much you'd be missing. My buddy has a dynon connected to a gtn650 and it is the snazziiest thing ever.
  5. doesn't sound to far out there, without the fuel pump and pitot heat, everything being led, i really could imagine my plane being under 8 amps, even while transmitting. think the fluke and i have a date at the hangar
  6. second this, it's just nice having a standalone device.
  7. pencil is pretty useless in the plane, so much faster and easier to write in a notebook. Now at home when flight planning or putzing it's KINDA useful. is nice to be able to work on e-forms with it. oh yeah, kids love using the pencil to draw.
  8. connecting things isn't overly difficult, the g5 system is mostly connected with a number of 2 wire busses, can, arinc and serial. i had the whole thign wired up onmy bench in less than an hour. now snaking all that wire thru the plane while making sure it's all white and indistinguishable, thats the money maker. I really like the dynon setup, mostly a bunch off preconfigured 9 pin dsub connections between the dynon components,. oh yeah and they have the mounting shelves so most of it can go in as a unit
  9. McDonalds, water, gatorade, coffee, Gatorade Bottle, tablets with movies/games, oxygen( seriously this is a big plus even flying at 7/8k ) tneres alwasy tools, oil, airplane stuff
  10. most capable are the gi 275s, they can be primary for everything, meaning you can take everything else out of the panel. In your case, you could potentially get 3x gi 275s, ai, hsi, eis and remove Everything else except for the annunciators and buttons basically. I'd recommend Alex, Horizon Avionics@KTYS, knoxville They installed a new GNC355A for me in 4 days, and wasn't horribly priced. Great work, haven't had an issue with it
  11. My Mini is mounted up high on the center bar, up near the ceiling, only thing it blocks is the unreadable thermometer. how do you have it mounted, mine isn't any bigger than the yoke.
  12. what did you order, i just specc'd the ipad mini 7 with 256gb cellular and it came to 749 if the battery life is better than my mini 6, which is probably impossible that' it's not, i'm real interested
  13. think if i were based in denver and already at 5k with lots of plans for travelling locally and west, i'd be looking at the K. yes, the e/f/j would work but i'd be happier with the turbo. as for the kids, they really arent going to be travelling with you once they get older, so long as you pack efficiently you should be good
  14. 2x g5s would really be nice, flightstream is nice. i think i'm misunderstanding, why would you ever remove the 430w ???? if you add a gnc355, you won't need the flightstream
  15. non turbo, so probably not relevant. I've had birdy up to 15000 without issue, one day i'll get her to 18k
  16. there's a couple at hooks, really nice and super smooth, really expensive hamburger runs. I imagine if you got it up to it's optimal altitudes it'd prob be awesome
  17. i suspect, looking at the airports i'be been based at < 75% of those planes are even flying, wouldn't be surprised if it was far lower. I'd bet this storm, going over every airport i flew out of in florida, will get a few hundred planes.
  18. this is one where i say get in your plane and fly the hell out, this damn thing is supposed to be a hurricane from one side of florida to the other.
  19. I use a cig to multi cig/ usb-a and usb c adapter. you may have to buy and test a few different brands and models as some will generate noise in your avionics. this applies to cables also, even good cables at just the right length and orientation may generate radio noise. actually had this happen, one day while flying in the houston b, the radios just spazzed out, static everywhere, couldn't hear atc at all, pulling the usb cable out of the audio panel fixed teh situation.
  20. I"m the exact opposite, I can wire anything together but do NOT let me near any type of metal work.
  21. one thing, i studied the diagrams a bit, wiring on the dynon is amazing, basically it's all connected via 9 pin dsubs and a few extras. I'd be comfortable letting my ap install it. I'd be real tempted if the ap worked in an E
  22. Dynons are gorgeous, buddy has one in his RV. also your ap/ia can install the dynon
  23. that's true, i kept my sos but have noticed it'll start even without it.
  24. not for us specifically but is kinda interesting : Kitplanes Feature (danhorton.net)
