  1. Good advice...however, I find shopping for planes is similar to homes. To find a nice panel in a cheap aircraft (under 100k) is almost impossible. Same goes for shopping for a home where many kitchens are small, outdated, and inefficient. I can spend 50-100k updating mine or another 500k to get in a class of home that comes standard with one. Disclaimer - I’m just getting started with the slow money draining process of overhauling our first floor including a new mud room and kitchen.
  2. I’m not going to comment especially being an AF and the swarm of lawyers that will follow.
  3. Interesting, I’ve noticed its use in high end aircraft where it is sewn in (pc12’s etc). I use one on my MC if doing 1k+ mile weekends but that one gets washed every so often because of the road grime.
  4. My C is getting a interior makeover headliner down to the carpet. I’m thinking about using sheepskin covers on the front seats or sewing the material to the seating surface. Opinions on the sheepskin? Fit and finish of the covers? Thanks.
  5. Two things I want to add to the above post. Dealers are making 20%+ on new equipment sales and good shops are very busy now (vs a few years ago). It might be very hard to find a dealer willing to combine used avionics. For upgrading on a CB style tight budget utilize the Garmin 400 size gns and 330 tray. With some patience and perseverance you could probably get a gns 400 non waas, 330 non es, and trutrak for just over 10k installed. If all the wiring is done properly you can easily and inexpensively upgrade boxes later on.
  6. I wouldn’t correct the DG off an EFB, especially in front of a DPE. Does the DG really change that much during a short flight like a check ride?
  7. I also have a Rayjay and really enjoy using it. Keep in mind the above prices are parts only. Labor could easily add 6-15k depending on how extensive it is.
  8. The Dynon system with a waas approach navigator could probably be built for 30 ish in parts. The Garmin 7 inch txi, g5 backup, AP, navigator, and used 330es will be the same price but lacking an engine monitor, SV, and second com. The Garmin dual G5, AP, navigator, and used 330es will be in the low 20’s for parts. Same price for the aspen E5 and trutrak unit. On the low end a 400w added to your panel with a trutrak AP and 330es can be had for under 10k in parts and will have TONS of capability.
  9. Jerry, what’s the going rate on a 270c overhaul these days?
  10. I assume it’s well lubed as you just picked it up from DM. The control forces feel a lot different from my C to a long body. Never been in a mid body so I can’t comment on that.
  11. The stec uses external data as well from an efis or air data computer. Not sure I see the difference. I’ve seen the 600 servos in person. Although I think they have different sizes per application the one I looked at could probably steer a bus....it was massive.
  12. I think you can bank on the Garmin AP accepting the heading and approach info from the aspen. However, I would be very surprised if Garmin allows AP control through the Aspen. The TT and stec will be far more integrated IMO.
  13. Dynon or Garmin? Garmin is using a members bravo and they own an ovation and J. The certification is currently being worked on and should be done in the dec-Jan time frame. I’m not sure how many Mooney aircraft Dynon owns or is currently testing.
  14. I did not get the email but I assume it talked about not being able to reuse the servos if they did not reach a certain standard?
  15. A couple weeks ago we reached the magic number. Scheduled to start the process first part of ‘19 I think.
  16. If you mean a 106 for the display head I save a little longer and spring for dual g5’s and utilize the HSI for navigation.
  17. It’s a good value for all you get but I can’t imagine putting one in unless you have a ifr waas approved gps unit to talk to it. That with installation will break into the 40’s.
  18. I’m with Mike on this one. Expecting a IA, who ideally you're building a relationship with, should NOT be expected to waste their time to learn a new system like this. If you want to pay or wait for the experience great.
  19. Many shops, including some popular msc’s, are unwilling to increase FF to an acceptable level. However, I think it’s only a single screw adjustment that controls the max FF so not a reason to not use that service center.
  20. Looks great, do you use the Garmin 660 or 510 to push the flight plan to your iPad?
  21. I find all the info I need on my 830. No reason to look at the factory gauges on a normal flight. I doubt the primary versions are any more reliable. @xcrmckenna what was the upgrade cost (parts only) for the 900 upgrade? Did you sell the 830 or trade it in?
  22. Currently watching the market for a really nice 7 or 8. Going back and forth between buying a flying version and one that is “close”. Realistically trying to get a feel for how close is “close”. I think Joe’s system of travel plane AND fun plane is the way to go. Pa46/a36/Ovation/bravo and an RV/cub/etc.
  23. Thanks for that info. Great news for owner installed units with an IA sign off. Should drop the total cost considerably.
  24. There are two sides to the turbo. The exhaust side that has a TIT probe before the turbo and the air intake side that compresses the induction air going to the engine. On my aircraft (not a 231) I have an upper limit for induction air temperature because I don’t have an intercooler. I’m not sure what would be a normal temperature range for your CDT but my WAG is in the 150-200 range if you are lacking an intercooler.
  25. Not sure, I find the 430w with gpss to be a great combination.
