Can’t really blame the guy for trying. I’ll gladly sell you my Ovation for only half the cost of @201er’s J. Serious offers only, please.

Not to interject too much logic into this discussion but it’s very plausible that a subset of people would be “above average” compared to the population. For example, the average IQ of Google employees is probably higher than the average IQ of the dishwasher or grocery bagger across town. It doesn’t mean one group is better than the other but there is a selection bias present in both groups that makes the average member of that group not representative of the population as a whole. It’s entirely possible for pilots to all be smarter than average (or dumber). Or for people taking an advanced driving course to be better than the average driver (who didn’t sign up for the course). That being said, I agree that most peoples’ confidence exceeds their competence.

Good to know. I just got an email from the airport a few minutes ago. They’ll be supplying Swift 94UL. Not helpful to me with an IO-550 so I asked them about G100UL. Their response was “I don’t know.” I think I’ll wait to buy the STC until I can actually use it.

It seems FBOs have been slow to repair self-service fuel pumps that have issues. I wonder if G100UL coming to California makes them not want to invest in something that will probably need to be replaced or modified. Anyone know the process for going from 100LL to 100UL? Can they use the same tank and pump or does everything have to be cleaned or replaced?

Does The Mooney Wing Tank Hide Water?

If all you get is an occasional stumble for a second it is really worth the potential damage isopropyl alcohol can do to your fuel system? -
Your Personal VFR Weather Minimums (poll)
ilovecornfields replied to 201er's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Couldn’t really answer the poll. I fly IFR 95% of the time anyway so for me to fly VFR it has to be a short hop or somewhere where it’s really annoying to fly IFR. That being said, I’ll often cancel when it’s time to start my descent but then it usually has to be clear at my destination (otherwise I just stay IFR and do a visual approach). -
Good movie but could have done without the dog cannibalism.

I have a hole you don’t have…
ilovecornfields replied to Glen Davis's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Fortunately, I don’t have this issue. I was able to purchase a custom-made Mooney Environmental Fuel Collection System for the cost of a Batman Lego set and a trip to Legoland. Now I don’t have to worry about the EPA or failing checkrides (except for my general incompetence at flying, of course). -
What kind of wiring do you need for the whole shebang (gps, audio output, power, gear sensor)? I’d like to get all the supplies ordered so I can make it easy on my installer.

Some find pleasure in knowing the engine is running optimally and they’re getting the most efficient use of the engine without causing any harm. Some like the fact that if something doesn’t sound or feel right they have additional information that can inform their decision making. I’m sure I can set ballpark power settings with my eyes closed and fly without engine gauges. That doesn’t mean it’s the smartest, safest or most efficient way to do it.

Covid and resumption of flight
ilovecornfields replied to Danb's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
It does suck and I’m still constantly surprised by how few people actually get treatment for it, especially since it’s essentially free (to you). https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/983737 -
Covid and resumption of flight
ilovecornfields replied to Danb's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I think I’m pretty familiar with how the system works including the fact that in California physicians cannot be hospital employees so your above statement is false for several reasons. Your article talks about Medicare payments for diagnoses, not death certificates. I think I’m done being “educated” on this subject for now, especially from those who haven’t a clue what they’re taking about. -
Covid and resumption of flight
ilovecornfields replied to Danb's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Please enlighten me on all these COVID $$$$. I haven’t received my check yet. Did you see the death certificate? I’ve filled out a few. There usually isn’t only one cause of death listed. For example, If you die from hypoxemic respiratory failure secondary to COPD secondary to tobacco use then tobacco will be on your death certificate even though it isn’t the sole reason you died. For those who haven’t heard, having other pre-existing conditions makes it more likely that you’ll die from COVID so I’m not at all surprised that someone with pancreatic cancer or stage IV lung CA would die while infected with COVID. I love hearing about all these incentives to say people died from COVID to get money but it just shows how you have no clue how the system works. I’m sorry your father-in-laws best friend died. My father in law also had a best friend that died. If people were instantly dying by the masses after getting COVID vaccines I think we’d know about it. With 12.7 Billion shots given I’m sure many people have died after the vaccines and most of not all were probably unrelated. -
Covid and resumption of flight
ilovecornfields replied to Danb's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
That’s perfectly fair, although I don’t think you’ll find a lot of posts from me bragging about my aeronautical knowledge and arguing with the aeronautical engineers and saying they don’t know what they’re taking about. Maybe we could get the same courtesy from you about subjects you know nothing about. -
Covid and resumption of flight

It’s really fascinating technology. I bought some shares in this company back in 2018 and they’ve been doing quite well. It used to take hours to days to get results from a spinal tap and see if someone had bacterial meningitis and now in less than an hour you can know what they have and how to treat it. They keep expanding their “panels” and coming up with new tests although it seems like it’s more low-tech than what you’re doing. This is the kind of technology that can really revolutionize healthcare. https://www.biofiredx.com -
Covid and resumption of flight
ilovecornfields replied to Danb's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Unlike you, I actually have quite a bit of knowledge on this subject. I try not to speak authoritatively on things I know nothing about. I did go back and read your post. Most of the statements you made regarding the medical establishment, infectious diseases and vaccines represents a profound lack of understanding on the subject that is so profound as to almost be comical. Your simultaneous lack of knowledge and insight into this coupled with your low threshold to authoritatively speak about something you know nothing about makes me not want to waste any more time engaging you. I remember growing up hearing “It’s better to be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.” I guess that’s not true anymore. -

Sorry about that. That was a rough time for me. Is it better than the COVID sniffing dogs? https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/dogs-sniff-out-covid-19-with-surprising-accuracy-180980203/ -
Covid and resumption of flight
ilovecornfields replied to Danb's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Please share with me your expertise on the subject that makes you so comfortable making a statement like that. Are you a doctor?.Are you a medical coder? Epidemiologist? Did you treat COVID patients? This is why we can’t have a dialogue about this subject. People just make things up to support whatever they’re trying to say and then people just repeat it because it supports what they want to believe. Why bother fact-checking when you can make up your own facts? I didn’t read the rest of your post. I’m not going to because you don’t know what you’re talking about and don’t have the insight to realize this. -
Covid and resumption of flight

Someone must be having a pretty Crappy Christmas to bring this stuff up again. Get a shot. Or don’t. Wear a mask. Or don’t. At this point, I don’t really care. The information is out there but as we keep rediscovering, no one really cares about facts. They just want their echo chamber that tells them what they want to hear and makes them feel smart for acting dumb. If we’re taking about personal experiences, I’ve never had COVID. Just got my bivalent booster last week. I’m not ferromagnetic and didn’t grow a third testicle. Just had a sore arm. I’ve also never seen someone who was vaccinated for the flu or COVID die from it. I know it happens, but that’s not my experience. I’ve seen plenty of unvaccinated people die from both. If you don’t get a shot and get the flu, you probably won’t die. If you didn’t get vaccinated and get COVID you probably won’t die either. If you drink two shots of whiskey, pour gasoline on yourself and go fly around at night you also probably won’t die. I guess that means they’re all smart choices. -
I agree that it’s class warfare but it seems more like “rich” developers vs upper middle class pilots not “rich” pilots vs the masses. Seems most of the reasons for closing airports are financial (increase property values, sell off the land to developers, etc.) Making the argument that airports need to close because of environmental concerns seems pretty disingenuous. That being said, it does seems like there is a measurable increase in lead near airports so hopefully switching to G100UL will help invalidate the environmental argument. I had a discussion with my son recently about perceptions vs reality and how often giving the perception of doing something wrong can be as harmful as actually doing that. Had the same conversation a couple of days later with one of my adult learners. Both told me it “not fair.” I agreed but told them that was the reality so they needed to deal with it.

I think most of the things people were asking him about are things he had said were “coming soon” and we were hoping to get updates on the progress. Not that it’s ok to be an a-hole but sometimes part of being a leader is having those uncomfortable conversations and dealing with the “customer” when reality has failed to meet expectations. Ghosting your clients doesn’t really provide a lot of confidence. I’ve walked into plenty of rooms where I knew the people I was about to talk to were not happy but I did it anyway because it was my job and the right thing to do. I was excited about the factory service center. If I lived in Texas I would use them.
