I’m wondering if hypoxia was as issue (or fatigue). That medical posted looks like an SI (not valid for any class after one year) so maybe he had sleep apnea or some other condition that impaired him. The approach track posted on the YouTube video (how did they even get that?) and the one-sided ATC audio certainly don’t give the impression of someone on their “A game.” Not sure how experienced the passenger was or if she was impaired and whether or not the pilot had any insight into how poorly he was flying at the time. I feel that if ATC kept calling out my deviations like that my wife would have spoken up. I’m jealous of the couples here who are both pilots and get to help each other out in situations like this.

I do what @M20Doc said. Never had an issue except in cold weather when I have to prime a couple more seconds

Transferring airplane out of corporation
ilovecornfields replied to ilovecornfields's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Well, Don never called me to tell me how the conversation went but I did get a call from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration and they talked me through what I need to do to get the exemption: 1. File for an exemption online - https://onlineservices.cdtfa.ca.gov/ 2. Enclose supporting documentation which includes: Aircraft bill of sale for no consideration, meeting minutes from the BOD approving transfer of the aircraft and a letter on company letterhead indicating transfer of the airplane for no consideration. Then I get to file for a new registration and change the name on my insurance policy. -
go, no-go decision - only LIFR en route

Well, that’s basically the current state of events in a nutshell. -

That video is 1:26. Any chance of getting the TL:DR? Having it in real time as part of the engine analyzer would be ideal. -

Hi Paul, I’m sure you guys at Savvy have engine monitor data on dozens (hundreds?) of catastrophic engine failures. Are there patterns you’ve seen that we would be likely to pick up in real time and we should be looking out for? I know I get that valve analysis every once in a while but I’d be interested in things that would signal something more imminent. Thank you in advance. Always appreciate your insight. -
Transferring airplane out of corporation
ilovecornfields replied to ilovecornfields's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Don, this is an excellent idea. I just called them but they said that those types of questions are referred to a specialist and they needed my name and callback number. So, taking your advice about not giving my name and aircraft number out I gave them yours. Do you mind letting me know what they say? Just kidding! They did say they would call me back later today, though. I know they’ll find out anyway when I turn in the bill of sale so I’m not worried about being anonymous. They were also able to see my “blocked” caller ID so I get the feeling that if they want to find me they will. Thanks again for the suggestion. -
Transferring airplane out of corporation

I agree. CA will ask you for the sale price for the use tax (which I’ve already paid once). I was told if there was ANY consideration then I would have to pay the use tax again for the transfer based on the fair market value of the airplane. This is exactly the scenario I am trying to avoid. -
No more charts in GTN 750
ilovecornfields replied to ilovecornfields's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
The charts are current. JDM updates everything and I double check. It just won’t display them. -
Apparently my GTN750 decided it doesn’t want to display my Jeppesen charts anymore. It’s a feature I never used, but now that I don’t have it I want it back. Anyone run into this before? Thought I would check before I spend a long time on hold with Garmin only to have them tell me to talk to my avionics shop (which doesn’t often have an answer). Maybe @TrekLawler is around? The screen says “Disabled 10-NOV-22” but doesn’t say how or why.

Why people get class 3 medicals
ilovecornfields replied to RobertGary1's topic in General Mooney Talk
I heard @jaylw314 does basicmed exams for Mooneyspacers for only $50 and 10 “likes.” Actually I didn’t hear this, but based on this discussion I’m almost tempted to give up my Class 2 and go basicmed now. Does anyone know if you need to still get a medical every 10 years or does they only apply to your first basicmed? -
Transferring airplane out of corporation
ilovecornfields replied to ilovecornfields's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Thank you for all the responses. I am working with a different attorney with respect to dissolving the corporation. I was told the corporation is responsible for collecting sales tax but in this case since there is no consideration there would be no sales tax. The use tax was my concern and I did discuss this with three “professionals” but I was also wondering if anyone else had gone through this and what their experiences were. -
Anyone have experience transferring an airplane out of a corporation into private ownership? I have my plane in an S corp which I’m planning on closing this year and I’m hoping not to pay the use tax again when I give the airplane to myself. I talked to one of the “free” AOPA attorneys with my “Premier” legal services plan and it sound like if I make up a bill of sale giving me ownership of the plane for no consideration and file an exemption with the state I won’t have to pay the use tax. He offered to do this for me for a $2500 retainer (in addition to my three free AOPA hours). If it’s really that simple I’d rather avoid paying $2500 and just do it myself. Has anyone done this in California and is willing to share their experience?

Bravo with TKS, did they make like 12
ilovecornfields replied to bknight's topic in General Mooney Talk
It’s amazing where Bravo prices have gone in the last 5 years. When I bought my Ovation a comparable Bravo was actually cheaper. Curious they didn’t post the UL for that Bravo with AC. I’m guessing somewhere around 850 lbs? Wonder what a comparable SR22T would have for UL? -
I’m not sure what a J does but I tend to cruise in the 10-12k’ range so that probably helps with the TAS. When I had a 200 HP airplane I rarely went above 8000’. I also fly ROP although at those settings (<50% power) sometimes it’s pretty close to peak.

Internet numbers: My ovation does 185 kts at 4.5 GPH LOP. Real numbers: 160 kts at 10 GPH. I have TKS so the normal ones are probably a little faster.

Why people get class 3 medicals
ilovecornfields replied to RobertGary1's topic in General Mooney Talk
Can you take a checkride for a new rating with basicmed? -
I did some practice approaches in IMC before taking the family to Santa Rosa last week. On the first one, I forgot to pull the gear up on the missed approach and didn’t realize it for a ridiculously long time. Reminded me of the time I was doing an IPC with @kortopates and had the speedbrakes out during the missed approach and he didn’t say a word but just started at the speed brake light.

I can see that now. “What certificate? Oh, the one you surrendered?”

First Mooney Solo - KHRV - KCVH - KRHV
ilovecornfields replied to katzhome's topic in West Coast Mooney Club
Where do you like to go in Santa Rosa? We were there last week. My wife was cracking up during the RNAV approach “LUSEE” and “PIGPN” were her favorite fixes. We also got the CHARLIE 8 departure on our way out. My son was disappointed there was no “SNOOPY” arrival, though. -
Snoop Dog seems to tolerate the Mutt Muffs just fine. He’s pretty good at letting us know when he’s uncomfortable so I’m assuming they’re not too bad.

CIRRUS DOWN AT KMYF TODAY
ilovecornfields replied to DCarlton's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
Me too. But she did it. I’d be surprised if she’s not an airline pilot by now. -
I know what you mean. In my Ovation, I use the baggage door so that way I don’t have to unbuckle.

I think you’re the only one claiming any absolute certainty in deducing anyones intentions. I’m just saying “don’t be an a-hole” and if you insult someone, then you probably won’t get what you want. Why is that so difficult to accept?
