  1. Don is one of the greatest guys I’ve met in the Mooney community and an extremely gracious host. This is the third Texas Springtime Fly In he has put together and the third one with marginal weather. I hate seeing it work out this way, but knowing Don, I fully expect a fourth chance at it next year. Thanks Don!
  2. Tough fit in the bagge area too!
  3. If I didn’t have a house full of family, Sandy and I would be getting ready to fly there on four wheels with I30 as the runway. Wish I could be there Don.
  4. Don’t worry about weather Don. I say that because the kids are coming in this weekend for my birthday on Sunday. That means I won’t be able to make it. THAT in turn means that since I want to be there and can’t, the weather will straighten out and be fine. Isn't that some positive attitude logic?
  5. I didn’t have to show proof of purchase, but I believe I know why. I made the reservation and got the code. The avionics shop then did the installation and registered it with the the FAA. I believe that served as my proof of purchase.
  6. Glad you made it in under the wire Skates! I had to stay after them, but finally pulled the check out of the mailbox yesterday.
  7. This is a very touching video made in the plane that I flew. The pilot came for a World War II glider pilot reunion and this video was created. After the event, he was flown home and he died the next day. It was definitely a bucket list flight.
  8. Not a great angle, but this is the one I flew today. It actually is a C47 that was converted to DC3 configuration after the war. The current owner bought it and then discovered that it was involved in every parachute drop in the European theatre during the war.
  9. I got a little right seat DC3 Time today. It was only about fifteen minutes on the controls. But I will never forget it. I wasn’t expecting the seat time. I was allowed to sit in the jump seat for take off. Once he climbed out and turned West over a lake that is about 35 miles long, the copilot got up and pointed at his seat since I didn’t have a headset. He climbed out and I climbed in, buckled up and put on the headset. The pilot gave me the controls and I finished the climb out while following the winding lake. At the end of it, I did a slow turn 180 and followed the lake back to the airport and descended to pattern altitude where the pilot took it back and landed. It was not nearly as heavy on the controls as I thought it would be, but I didn’t make any hard maneuvers. It felt like I was just hanging at the windscreen since there was no nose to see.A great day!
  10. Best of luck Stephen. I sincerely hope you guys can meet your Oshkosh target. There have been so many missed targets, I finally gave up and starting taking steps to fix the Britain.
  11. Any word about TT stepping on the gas for Mooney certification?
  12. Until the 175 and 375 were released I was a Lynx proponent. Even without the Lynx bugs, the 375 is so much more for a little bit more money. You can’t use a Lynx as a Navigtor, only a graphic transponder.
  13. I enjoyed the last Mooney Max IMMENSELY and was really looking forward to the next one. Unfortunately, due to previously booked charitable events I have volunteered for and locked into, I would only be able to make it Thursday and Friday afternoons for a few hours, making it difficult to justify the expense. I truly hope that my schedule is clear for the next one. I really appreciate the Maxwells putting these events together.
  14. I had Stratux Tablet IN long before putting a 345 in the Mooney. I used the Stratux in both the Mooney and the Cessna until a couple of months ago until putting a Stratus ESG and 3i in the panel. I flew both planes a good bit with the Stratux and found it to be quite reliable. It is so much cheaper than a Stratus I really don’t know how they sell the Stratus for so much more. Since getting Panel IN in both planes I gave the Stratux to a friend and it has worked perfectly for him.
  15. Great news Don! My birthday is the nineteenth, so hopefully the family doesn’t do anything that keeps me away. You have been a very gracious host for this event. Hope to see you there!
  16. Thanks for the replies and information! I have great soldering skills. What I don’t have is good ability to work in tight places while standing on my head. So since it is dual vacuum/electric, I am also dealing with low vacuum, a little over 4”, maybe closer to 4 1/2. I am going to try and find the relief tube and clean it. Could low vacuum be related to this problem?
  17. The Elec Off flag showed up on the Brittain. The circuit breaker is on and wiring all appears good. Haven’t found the connector where I can check input voltage. Could it be something wrong internally, or does it have to be a power supply problem?
  18. My Mooney has the heat stuck on, the Britain Turn Coordinator displaying the Elect Off flag and the vacuum only slightly above 4 inches. I guess I’ll be a few days tailwheeling until I get the Mooney back in order. It’s always something.
  19. Yeah, the weather has been on and off here. Las two days have been terrible winds. Last week when we had nice weather, the airport was shut down for restriping. It is supposed to cool off and get nicer next week.,
  20. I think you and sabremech are saying the same thing, keep both sides off the forum.
  21. I have been on this forum happily for well over a year, maybe closer to two. I got involved in conflict on a car forum many years ago and have learned how important it s to stick with the subject of the forum and shy away from stating opinions about other areas of life. I expect we can disagree to some degree about things like whether a C is easier to fly than an Ovation or some such, but it is wise to stay away from opinions on politics, religion or lifestyle. i saw a really top notch and popular car forum totally wrecked by political disagreement. I hope I never see such a thing again. Let’s enjoy each other and discuss aviation and Mooney’s and realize how fortunate we are to have such a great forum, and try to keep it that way.
  22. Training for a PPL in a Cessna trainer to the PPL level and moving to a Mooney shortly thereafter has been done before. An impressive frequent poster on here, skates97 did just that and I am sure there are others. Take one step at a time. Concentrate on the PPL, get it in your hand and then get a little cross country time, and get transition training from a Mooney savvy CFI. My $0.02,
  23. In that case I guess I need to drive my old truck that I bought new 42 years ago and recently restored to Mooney Max this time so you can have a look....... nah, I’d rather show off my Mooney.
