WOW!!! Is about the only thing you can say!!!!

I am feeling like @nosky2high and not planning on waiting yet another year on Garmin. The J is the same basic body as the G and F. There is no engineering reason not to have it included with the J's. I was willing to pay more for Garmin over Trutrak and Trio assuming they were coming out basically at the same time. In fact was willing not only to pay more but also pay for some of the other luxury items like the trim kit and possibly the yaw damper (just to be ALL IN). Was considering adding the Garmin 650 over the Avidyne 540. Now it looks like for sure the Aidyne and (Trutrak or Trio).

Looks like Trio or Trutrak is going to win my business. I was hoping for the GFC but now that does not look good

Opinion on topping off tanks! Before Flight or After?
wcb replied to wcb's topic in General Mooney Talk
Thank you everyone and as usual GREAT INPUT from everyone! It was exactly the conversation I was looking for. -
Just looking for opinions on topping off tanks! I like to top off after flight so when I want to go I know that the plane should mostly be ready. However, I have some weeping and recently had D. Max patch (but doesn't look like we got them all, I have not been able to take it back to D. Max to finish). If the plane sits a couple weeks as it has recently (weather has been bad to fly in Houston for TOOO LONG and especially when I am trying to fly) I loose up to 6 gallons depending on the length between flights. When do you prefer to top off? If you top off after your flights do you top it all the way (I hear that FULL FULL can cause some issues?)

Experimental Avionics in Certified Aircraft
wcb replied to Brandontwalker's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I know of other planes that have gotten around this as well. Also, I understand that when avionics companies are doing their model test they at least have a temporary designation of experimental. There must be some loop hole approval process. -
Experimental Avionics in Certified Aircraft
wcb replied to Brandontwalker's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I have thought if you were in-between going full experimental (RV or Velocity) and certified aircraft. What if you bought a Mooney and upgraded it anyway you wanted using ALL experimental avionics etc as well as most any aerodynamic mods and engine mods. Simply slap the experimental labels on it and use it (approve it) as any other experimental. I know during trial phases this has to be done, so why not long term. (BTW- I could never do that. My wife does not like to fly in a Boeing much less a Mooney and so if I put the experimental tag on it she would never get in the plane.) -
This in the post WTB a RayJay turbo tomgo2 26 Advanced Member Supporter 26 47 posts LocationSan Antonio, TX Reg #:N234BG Model:PA-30 Report post Posted Saturday at 03:01 PM Hi Eddie, we (RAJAY) own the STC for the M20J. We are taking deposits now to be put on a waitlist. We want to have at least 3 orders before we go into production. If you are interested in putting a $1,000 fully-refundable deposit down, please contact sales@rajay.aero for more information. We haven't nailed down the exact cost for the M20J, but we would estimate a purchase price for the kit to be somewhere around $28K plus 50 hours of installation labor.
-
I will say I do not know if it really makes any real financial sense to add one but then again we are talking airplanes where nothing really makes financial sense. With that being said, buying one with one already installed is big thumbs up for me.
-
I have RayJay on my F. I also "digit". I usually try to fly somewhere between 7500 and 12500 (still looking to get into the high teens with 02) I do not engage turbo until 5k and can have greater than 27mp(upto 30ish), but the turbo poh says continues ops at 27mp. Had TAS around 200mph the other day coming back from DMAX at IAS 157 mph, 12.5 feet, at 57 OAT and 27 MP slight head wind gave me around 188 ground speed.

Youtube really puts it in perspective.

Yes! Cool plane! I am curious about some of the specs as to speeds and fuel burns?????

DId not know that interesting fact. Thanks Cliff Clavin!

Mooney owners near College Station, Texas
wcb replied to greygoose's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
The "Chicken" is not just an aggie thing. College students from surrounding schools also road trip down from Baylor, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston, and yes even UT (although not many from UT ). Back to the thread at hand: What kind of Mooney are you considering? Might help to get a ride in one you are actually considering (budget ect)! -
Here is the Paul with AVweb about the Mercedes Benz engine that turns into Diamond 180hp and seems like it could get more HP from maybe a little different engine (but who am I to say). I know the gas Mercedes 4 cyl twin turbo puts out about 250 hp.
-
So, I bought a new F250 with the 6.7L diesel (LOVE IT) and that got me thinking (always dangerous). I also recently had the Mercedes twin turbo gas 4 cyl. (Diamond is putting in Mercedes diesels in some of their planes). Here is the thought. Mooney aerodynamic efficiencies with more efficient diesel engines. What would a Mooney have to look like to have my big BAD 6.7? More realistic what if Mooney went back to one of its more popular frames (the J) and add even more of the aerodynamic efficiencies available today (like Lo Presti Cowl, Tips, etc etc) as well as a twin turbo 4 cyl diesel. Try to get Mooney truly back to the sweet spot. SPEED AND EFFICIENCIES at a reasonable price (What price would be considered reasonable for a brand new 4cyl updated J model?)
-
I have the same issues and wonder if adding the BSR system to the Mooney is even a real option (slap the experimental tag on it or field approval).
-
I would have to think there is some benefit other than just looks cool. Most likely no speed gain, but maybe climb, stability gains (most likely in landing and take off)??????
-
I was also thinking under the plane for that perfect landing shot?
-
VERY COOL. I would like to see how it is mounted and if I got one how would you change the mounting?
-
Well I do not think @201er thought this thread was going to turn into a safety discussion and am interested if he and those that posted that said they do this on a regular basis will choose to continue. The click of the Key with mags, mixture, prop and throttle off for a rotation or two would essentially do the same thing and a billion times safer. I am in the same camp that I have never done it.

Plane & Pilot Magazine- aircraft of the year
wcb replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in General Mooney Talk
My home airport Jet A is actually a bit more expensive and I see near us in Liberty Texas Jet A is a full dollar cheaper. Just looking around the Houston area it is everything in-between but mostly around 40 to 50 cents cheaper. But, the 155++ kt difference in cruise.....I will simple call it a TIME MACHINE. -

from controller . com it looks like you need an extra 500k to get a nice Evolution and OHHH the fuel burn. 32 gph in cruise and 55 gph in climb. The CB in me says my little 4 cyl works just fine, but the need for speed in me say more than 300 kts in cruise and you can start talking in terms of percent of Mach. Mach .55?? Noice!!! -
PICK ME! I will spend your money for you! Go Factory NEW! It simply makes you cooler. As they say "the one with the most toys wins"... I will add the one with the coolest toys wins. All that coming from a guy that owns a 76F which means I am nowhere near the leaders but happy to be in the game.

You also don't have a go "SLOW". You have a go fast and a go faster plane.
