  1. Something seems odd there. I have over 200 hours with my Stratux and have had it twice stop sending out the wifi signal because the SD card got corrupted. After the first time I started carrying a spare card with the image loaded on it so I could just swap it out which only takes a couple of minutes. Reformatting and reloading the image is easy to do as well to repair the bad card for the next time it's needed. (In fairness to the system if I took the time to shut it down with the app instead of just turning off the power to it I probably wouldn't have it getting corrupted.) I've never had it reboot or fail to lock on.
  2. Is he scrambling them or will they be sunny side up?
  3. Trying to adjust my work schedule to see if we can make it, will let you know.
  4. Fly safe. If you get the itch to go up in a Mooney let me know, I'm just a hop away from you. She's not as nice as your bird but I like her and she's still a lot of fun.
  5. That's what I was planning on putting in until I saw the AV-20-S and thought why not get an AOA and backup AI at the same time.
  6. I need a clock in my panel and for the price and all the features I'm going to put in the AV-20-S when they get certification. They said they will hold the special show price for one month after certification comes through.
  7. That's great! I had the wrong one next to me for 15 long years. The past 8 with the right one next to me have been amazing.
  8. I know you came here for flying advice and not life advice, but... Some may agree and some won't. Many of my major goals in life were accomplished because of a supportive wife by my side, or at least easier to accomplish. Of course that is dependent on marrying the right person. The opposite is true. It's very difficult to accomplish things with the wrong person by your side.
  9. Congratulations
  10. Congratulations!
  11. Careful, you could hear "Do you just love me for my plane?"
  12. I saw the same thing when I had the EDM-830 put in, my original mechanical tach reads about 125-150 higher than the EDM at full power. At lower RPM's it reads closer to the EDM but is still off some on the high side.
  13. Thanks, fortunately there will be flexibility when we go. The plan will be to have a travel window and when it looks like there is a good 10 day forecast we will be on our way. Right now it is just feeling out when the best time of year would be. From the comments I'm leaning towards either Spring or Fall. It will also be dependent on his college schedule when he gets back.
  14. Hmmm.... All you Apple people. My Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 has never overheated or crashed in a couple hundred hours of flying." Including AZ and Nevada in the summer. It can also be bought for a little over $200. Now I need to go find some wood to knock on. I think @Raptor05121 has the same one and runs Droid EFB like I do. Alex, any overheating or random shut down issues?
  15. I'm thinking that could turn into a very expensive trip... As they say, "You don't know what you don't know." (It's probably cheaper for me not to know )
  16. There's another thread about the AV-30 that mentions it. https://aerovonics.com/av-20-1 Company home page: https://aerovonics.com/ I actually traded some emails with the founder of the company this morning asking how long they would keep the special show pricing. He answered my inquiry in about 5 minutes (very nice) and said that they ran into a few delays with the FAA (no surprise) but are expecting certification in the next week or so. He also said that they will leave the discounted price effective for a month after they receive the certification.
  17. Interesting, for under $1000 I would get a clock/timer (which I need), an AOA, and a backup AI. (Assuming they get the certification which is currently pending, with no expected date listed that I can find)
  18. Here you go, for your viewing pleasure. https://www.youtube.com/user/piperpainter/videos
  19. That gave me a laugh. I have been accused of using sarcasm more often than I should... It's hard to hear tone of voice or pick up on non-verbal cues online...
  20. Just a touch condescending? Maybe I am reading your post wrong but are you implying that anyone not wanting to completely upgrade their panel to the latest and greatest doesn't care about SA, weather, traffic avoidance, etc...? ADS-B In and weather is provided to both tablets in my plane with the $120 Stratux I built and has been very reliable for about a year and a half. My setup can't do IFR like the GTN750s but does display all the traffic, weather, charts, etc (in high resolution)... even a little purple line to follow if I can't match up the landmarks I see out my windscreen with what is on the chart.
  21. Excuse the question if it is a dumb one, but with AP integration you set the heading bug on the DG and the AP follows that, right? Without the AP integration you have to reach over and set the heading on the AP? Is there more to it than that? I don't see why it is such a hassle to set a heading on the AP.
  22. Thanks, yes, couldn't be any more proud. It must be the result of my wife because I can't imagine I could turn one out as grounded hard working, and humble as he is.
  23. At the risk of getting flagged for political/religious content it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints more often referred to as "Mormons." We send missionaries all over the world, even to Utah where there are already lots and lots of Mormons. The Outer Banks and First Flight have been on the bucket list of places to fly into since before my son was ever there. He has never made it to First Flight because it is out of the areas that he has been assigned to but they did get to go to Cape Lookout one day. I appreciate the insight.
  24. There are other options and depending on whom I am visiting I will go into either Skypark KBTF or Spanish Fork U77 in the future. Neither one charges and ramp fees or overnight parking if you purchase fuel and their fuel is less expensive than U42. I have not been into KBTF but I have flown into U77 and it is a nice little airport. They have tie down spots but did not have tie down straps or chains, however the gentleman there let me borrow some while I was there. It is a friendly airport and they are happy to have you there. They also say they have a crew car on a first come first served basis. If you do decide to go into U42 their fuel is the same price for both self service and full service.
  25. Not "high" fees but new fees that weren't posted online. Flew into U42, South Valley Regional, in Salt Lake last week. I have been there numerous times before and if you bought any gas at all there were no ramp fees. I found out when I saw the charge on my credit card that had changed. They now charge $10/day if you are there more than 4 hours regardless of whether you buy any fuel from them or not. Had I known I wouldn't have bought 34 gallons from them and have just gotten what I needed to fill up at a cheaper place en-route home. The folks I talked to on the phone at the FBO when I was trying to make sense of the charge which was much higher than the amount of fuel my plane would have held were nice enough. (I left before they were open so didn't have a receipt showing what the charges were.) Apparently new management put new rules in place. I asked if they had the fees posted somewhere that I missed and was told they have a little sign on the desk but "I guess we should also tell people." I said that would probably save them from an irate customer at the desk. They also said they were going to update Airnav and Flightaware because they weren't listing the new fees online (which have been in place for months apparently).
