Cleared to land, do what you want, touch n go, etc???I h
Skates97 replied to RobertGary1's topic in General Mooney Talk
What's that on the runway When I was doing my PPL we were doing touch and goes at KCNO. Runway 26L is 7,000' long and 150' wide. On consecutive trips around the pattern there was a coyote that we rolled past on the opposite side of the centerline before applying power and taking off again, and then the next time around there was about a 5-6' snake right on the centerline. We were too fast to stop or swerve at that point, too slow to get off the ground, so he went "bump, bump" under the tires before we lifted off again. -
I'll be at Osh next year. If I can work in the training and Caravan Schedule I may do that. If not I don't have a problem with flying Fisk. From all the descriptions it sounds like it's not much different than the first two years I had my Mooney and was based out of Corona (KAJO). A number of locals refer to KAJO as the wild west and I know more than a few that will not fly into it. The number of planes is obviously different, but no tower, more than a couple planes with no radio (or calls that would be better off with no radio), and just general stupidity often made it "interesting" at Corona.

If you have a year or two before you are planning on buying then do some tracking. When I was looking I made an Excel Spreadsheet and tracked all the Mooneys on the market that fit my potential price range. They were C's, E's, a few F's, and the D I ended up buying. The great thing about Excel was I could just keep adding columns for what I was tracking. Price Price Changes including when the price dropped and how much Year Model Serial # Tail # State/City Exterior Color Quality of paint 1-10 Interior Color/Material Quality of Interior 1-10 Panel Layout a Scale of 1-10 (This is just subjective as to what looked good to me, surprising how many different ways there are to layout a panel) AFTT Engine Overhaul Date TSMOH Type Prop Hours on Prop Date of last annual Listing of Avionics Columns with links to current ads. (Controller, Barnstormer, Mooneyland, Aerotrader) Just looked and I had 40 planes on my spreadsheet priced from $26,999-$65,500. The market is different now than when I bought mine a little over 2 1/2 years ago, but if you spend the next 6-12 months tracking all the planes in your potential range you will get a good feel for what is "too cheap" and what you are really looking for. The other thing I believe, is that when you get ready to buy, it is just as important to do your pre-buy on the seller as the plane. The guy selling the plane I bought flew it the hour from Cottonwood, AZ down to Chandler, AZ to meet me and show me the plane. We agreed on a price pending an inspection and shook on it. He offered to fly it to an MSC to have the pre-buy done on it, wasn't hiding anything. I didn't have a complex rating (I didn't even have 60 total hours) so after the purchase he delivered the plane to me in CA in exchange for me buying his plane ticket back. The plane was being flown regularly, he was selling because he was moving up to an Ovation.

The bottom is called the "Signature" which is sometimes hard to find where the settings are. If you click on your name at the top right and go to "Account Settings" you will then see the link to modify your "Signature" over on the left side.

Yes, come to Camarillo for the fly in, should be quite a few of us there. Also, thank you for your service and welcome to MS.

2 Mooneys Touch Mid-Air Inbound to OSH?

It's felt a lot more like the silly nonsense that takes place over on POA the last few days than the higher level of discussion that usually takes place here on MS... -
2 Mooneys Touch Mid-Air Inbound to OSH?

Would be interesting to see the IP's associated with posts and who they match up to. -
The GTX335 came with a card that had a registration code. When I registered it generated the STC Permission Letter which I then downloaded and printed out. I do not know if that would be the case with the 345.

Reach out to @Aerodon, I was going to buy my kit through Aircraft Spruce but he was able to get me a better deal that still came with the harness ready to go, I just had to hook up power and ground. (Mine was a simple installation not connecting to a GPS Nav/Com or anything else). But, you might be able to work out what wiring you would need coming out of the harness and he can get you a price to have it pre-made. Don has always been a pleasure to work with, I got a SL-40 and EDM830 from him a couple years back. As Paul said, there is a note on Aircraft Spruce for the GTX-345 that says "Note: The GTX 335/345 can only be sold to experimental aircraft. Certified aircraft must purchase this unit from a shop certified by Garmin to perform installations." However, even though on the 345 page it says the 335 has to be purchased from a shop, the Q/A on the 335 page says it can be sold over the counter and installed by an A&P. It might be worth a chat with Don.

Do you or have you named your plane?
Skates97 replied to Mufflerbearing's topic in General Mooney Talk
I got as far as the first two sentences and figured it came from Phineas and Ferb. My kids loved that show, I can probably still recite the theme song... -
This is exactly what my AP/IA did on my first annual. He was nice enough to do owner assist and I learned a lot in the process. I'm sure it would have been quicker without me... Anyway, he asked if I had jack points and I said I did not. He said no problem, I'll be right back. He went back to his hangar, made a couple just like you described, and came back a short time later. When we were done he told me to keep them for the next year, which I did. After that I bought the LASAR ones so next annual I won't need the homemade ones anymore, although they worked very well and were solid for my first two annuals.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UUTCZ8Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Bought this so my son could see over the panel when we first got the plane. It fits the size of the seat cushion perfectly. Still have it in the hangar for when taking grand-kids or nieces and nephews flying. -

My wife wanted to name her Bertha. I told her that name didn't exactly lend itself to a sleek/fast plane... I think we have settled on Liberty. -
If you are a little handy and have an AP/IA to work with you have options. I bought the GTX335 along with the wiring harness, GAE12 encoder and GA35 antenna. Made the RG400 cables, installed everything, and had my AP/IA sign off on it. Even learned how to fill out at 337 in the process. If you have a good transponder you can do the Skybeacon without much trouble. I was not sure how long my old Narco would keep working so just went ahead with the install of the new transponder.

2 Mooneys Touch Mid-Air Inbound to OSH?
Skates97 replied to mooneyflyer's topic in General Mooney Talk
I would have expected you to say there would be no discussion until after everything is sorted out, not that it would never be discussed here. If the Caravan truly means to never discuss this incident outside of their organization, any changes to training or procedures that are needed (if that is the conclusion reached) here, that is disappointing. I agree completely. I don't care who was involved, but it would be nice to eventually know what the chain of events were that led to the incident and what is being done to prevent it in the future. I have not done any formation flying but would like to and have been considering the Caravan next year. I already have Oshkosh on the calendar. If the gag order extends past the point where everything has been resolved that would not encourage my participation in the Caravan. -

1977 M20C - need a Heater Cable
Skates97 replied to ijs12fly's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
This one seems to be indistinguishable to the control cables in my plane for the heater, vent, and parking brake. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/buttondashctrl.php -
West Coast Mooney Club- Wings Over Camarillo Airshow/ Fly-In

Got my ticket. It will be myself plus three in the Mooney. Thanks for putting this together! -
Hard to tell from the picture, but in the plug on the bottom in the picture is it grounded to the center electrode? On a recent flight I got some slight vibration, no RPM loss, no change in airspeed, but I have an engine monitor and saw the EGT go up and CHT go down on #4. Mag check showed the bottom plug on #4 not firing. After landing it was a quick 10 minute job to pull the plug, which was grounded, and swap it out with a spare I carry.

Very true, also something to remember when you are just posting pictures for fun, not specifically for people to help you find things wrong with your plane... -

I did it on my plane awhile back. Yes, they did dim with the existing rheostat. I think that is dependent on having other regular bulbs in the circuit which I still had my post lights and an internal light in my CDI. I followed @Raptor05121's instructions and it was easy to do.
