  2. Thanks for the offer Glenn. Chris got me taken care of this time. I am certainly appreciate all of the help from this community. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Mine is a 1977. It appears many components from the F's were used when building the early J's. As best I can tell, the regulator was probably one of them. I have not been to the airport today to confirm, but Dr. Google has several firewall pics from 77 J's which have a single hose attachment on the firewall side. I have confirmed a single hose attachment on the interior side of my regulator. See for example:
  4. So done. Thank you much! I’ll shoot you a PM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. For those of you who have removed the ever so trusty vacuum systems from your planes, I am looking to help you prevent a vacuum regulator from collecting dust on the shelf. I have noticed that my regulator is acting odd in that the suction starts off very high and, after 30-45 minutes, settles down into the green and remains steady for the remainder of the flight. An uneducated guess leads me to believe it is a vacuum regulator issue. I believe mine is model 2H3-10. If you have one you are willing to part with on the cheap, I am interested in taking it off your hands so I can patch this system until it is shelved for a pair of G5's.
  6. Anyone fly their Mooney into Gaston’s? I am looking to go there, but am leaning toward flying into a neighboring airport and shuttling in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. What is the all in weight of your 64 gal set? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. My IA reinspected the spinner today and agreed there is no crack therefore no airworthiness issue. I appreciate your thoughts, offers, and input. Crisis averted on this one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. If I get through without replacement, I will strip the paint as the scratch draws the eye to the drill hole. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I am nearing the end of my 3rd annual and my IA discovered my spinner was previously stop-drilled. He indicated it is an illegal fix and is not airworthy. I took a look at the spinner today and it is apparent that an inept mechanic was at work as the spinner was never cracked. Rather, he stop-drilled a scratch in the paint finish. (SMH). Since the spinner is not cracked, does the drill hole still result in an unairworthy spinner? If so, what are our replacement options? I have a McCauley 2 blade prop. 11. I have a spare that was in good working order when removed for an upgrade. Send me a PM if you decide to swap the unit in lieu of repairs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. My guess, based on the quoted price, he is talking about the gasket that fits on the ram air inlet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. The drain was pretty easy to trace. It was the one still dripping 3 days after the last flight and lead right to the fuel pump...and confirmed by my IA. Great advice on pivoting the engine. I sure wish there was another 3” between the engine and firewall.
  14. I am sure this description is not technically accurate, but the seals in my fuel pump have apparently given up the ghost and I now have oil dumping out the fuel pump “breather” after every flight. I have a new pump in route, but am perplexed as to how to access and replace the pump. My IA suggests we remove the dual mag to make room, but it may be necessary to pull the engine. Not the news I wanted. Anyone with experience, please chime in.
  15. I am pretty sure I still have one. I will check and shoot you a PM when confirmed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I use the gear crank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. What model? I have one out of my J I could part on the cheap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. You may very well be correct. My memory is hazy on that. I always set both radios to the same radial.
  19. I have a couple of thoughts on this. First, you can't perform an airborne VOR check without two functioning nav radios. My home airport does not have a VOR ground check station, so this is important. Second, many ILS and VOR approaches use intersecting radials to identify the IAF and FAF. Not saying it can't be done with one nav radio, but the work load would be significantly increased. Most of my flying is following the magenta line, but I still practice and stay proficient with ILS and VOR approaches just in case the magenta line some day fails.
  20. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find mention of the magnetometer. Glad someone was able to find it. The locked HSI feature is definitely a bummer though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. He got his for roughly half the cost of a certified model. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. The Stratus ESGi is a panel mounted transponder with external antenna. I have one in my Mooney. Tt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Serious question here, so no bashing. I have a close friend who purchased an experimental Stratus ESGi transponder and had it installed in his Piper Cherokee 180. His local FSDO then inspected the installation and signed it off for a minimal fee. Is this common? If so, is this practice allowed with other avionics such as an experimental G5? I plan to install dual G5's at annual and, in addition to the money savings, wouldn't mind having the increased functionality that comes with the experimental units.
  24. I used the FlameMaster products specified in the D Max article. Spruce does not carry CS-3330 for the access panels. I called about it and was told I am the first person to ever ask for it (I find that hard to believe). Skygeek carries the access panel sealant, so you are probably best to order both sealants from them. I will note that my access panels were sealed with tank sealant and they were a real B**** to remove. Hopefully the use of the proper sealant on the access panels will make the job easier next time. Also, a $2 caulk gun from Harbor Freight is perfect for the pre-measured sealant tubes. It will likely be ruined by the time you are finished, so toss it in the trash with your mound of soiled rags
