  1. +1 to this. Split the difference. Pay the 250 for a remote hangar while waiting for the local one. You might also consider joining the wait list at other nearer airports - slowly reel it in
  2. I always have one or more airline credit cards, but honestly I don’t use them for purchasing. I rotate the cards as sign-up bonuses are available. I have an AA credit card that I used once to meet the minimum spend and got 75k points for it. Annual fee free for the first year. I’ll cancel when the year is up and apply for something else.
  3. The link above already mentions this, but just to note here … LiveATC keeps audio recordings for a pretty short period. They have an online archive going back 30 days, and an offline archive going back a year. After that, you’re out of luck.
  4. When I click that link, I get a registration wall.
  5. Kathryn’s Report also has essentially zero information. http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2022/07/mooney-m20f-n600fs-incident-occurred.html?m=1
  6. There was an earlier thread on this but no real discussion. It does link to a BT thread but I don’t have a Beechcraft so I dunno what they said https://mooneyspace.com/topic/42801-and-yet-another-n600fs-crashes-into-hilltop-taking-off-at-ellenville-ny-n89/
  7. I’ll just mention here that we had a thread earlier in the year about age-related insurance denials, with some good points raised by many. https://mooneyspace.com/topic/45566-pp-article-on-insurance-denials-for-older-pilots/ What any of that has to do with this particular course, I have no idea - but I’m interested in the topic generally.
  8. That’s pretty frustrating tbh. Seems there’s generally a lot of misunderstanding about what this product does. I started using CamGuard largely because of broadly positive reviews here on MS (as well as industry sources like Aviation Consumer and Mike Busch), and primarily because I was concerned about corrosion on an engine that flies about once a week. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at improved compression numbers and lower oil consumption.
  9. Understood. Thanks A64, this is a good suggestion. I had just changed the oil with XC a couple of hours before the plane went into the shop, and ultimately I went ahead and added some CamGuard right before I dropped it off. I’ll keep this in mind for next time.
  10. I keep watching for a deal on a G5 but haven’t seen one yet. There’s a local ad on CraigsList that has been trying to sell one for $1599 for a couple of months with no takers. It sounds like you got yours new from the manufacturer?
  11. Well - basically, I'm running XC, and I'm just trying to figure out whether I can/should dump a few ounces of CamGuard in there for corrosion protection. I know that I could drain the oil and pickle it, but we're only talking about a few weeks. If the juice isn't worth the squeeze, that's a completely fine answer - I really just wanted to know whether CamGuard was going to have a harmful effect on a cylinder with about 15 hours on it.
  12. Does the Aera 760 have a way to show EIS? (I know the iPad can do it via GP but I’ve always been confused about whether this feature is available in the 760.)
  13. I’m no oil expert, but LW-16702 is specifically an anti-scuff additive and is required for certain engines, but not for my IO-360. https://www.lycoming.com/content/oil-and-your-engine
  14. Phillips Victory might be great as an every day oil, but I’m basically trying to stick with no scuff additives. I’m continuing to use straight XC, but I’d like to add CamGuard for the corrosion protection. The cylinder is over ten hours now, but I’m still trying to be careful about what goes in the oil - to avoid anything that might compromise the break in.
  15. Good. So CamGuard by itself is purely an anti-corrosive with no anti-scuff properties?
  16. Interesting. I always thought there was some sort of anti-scuff in there.
  17. This is a chrome cylinder.. I have no prior experience with chrome break-in, but so far it doesn't seem that much different from steel. Oil consumption was high for the first 2-3 hours, but it has gotten much closer to normal in the past 3 hours or so. I guess the irony is that chrome shouldn't have problems with corrosion - it's the other three cylinders (and the rest of the engine) I'm worried about
  18. Thanks A64. I got the same email this morning and registered. Could be an interesting presentation.
  19. Well, you know what I mean - on the off chance that there's some mixup with a login or whatever, getting Craig involved would help eliminate innocent explanations.
  20. You could quietly reach out to Craig for assistance. That's my best suggestion that would avoid publicly identifying the individual. @mooniac58
  21. This is a pretty small community, and I hope that we can handle this - it's disappointing to start having serious trust and integrity problems. There are quite a few MS members that post their for-sale items on MS first, often with favorable prices, just because it's a small community and should be less drama than posting on an internet-wide forum.
  22. I think that Al Mooney was like 6’4” tall. I’ll need to dig out the Baxter biography
  23. It’s been there long enough that it looks like the satellite caught it. Here’s a screencap from Google Maps.
  24. At some point, isn’t there a concern that oil consumption is too low? I’ve never had an engine that consumed less than a quart every ten hours.
  25. I switched from Aeroshell 15w50 to Phillips XC with Camguard several years ago, and have been very happy - seeing lower oil consumption and better compression numbers, though my primary concern is about corrosion.
