  1. Thanks for the info, this will be home for me about half the year so have to have a hanger. Far as fuel all of them are high. I had planned on going to 3A2 Tazewell, they have the cheapest fuel. Agreed Gatlinburg is nice but the traffic.... Downtown DKX will be little to far. MOR and GCY seem to be more practicable.
  2. I bought a place up in Newport, Tn and wondering if anybody has any comments on local airports there. There are 3 that are 30-40 min drive from there. Morristown, Gatlinburg, and Greeneville. All look like ok airports but like to know if anybody has experience them or out of there. Looking for a hanger at the airport too. I have flown out of McGhee Tyson every time, but this next trip will be going out to a new airport. After talking with a lot of locals (non-aviation) they tell me probably Greeneville would be my best bet, but wanted to know if y'all had any comments. Thanks in advance.
  3. I done Gleim for PP, and King for IR. I prefer King by far.
  4. I like the story, congrats on working as well as you did. I have bounce down a runway before when I trying to find the best landing speed for mine. Found out 80 is the magic number for me. I'm based out of KCXO and I listen to the hanger stories myself and once told that a guy bought a Mooney and landed on rwy 19 at CXO, landed before the rwy and bounced all the way down and stop past the rwy right before the trees. Its a 5000' rwy. Most people I talked to about Mooney's before I got mine was not to do it. My first ride was with David Mcgee in a rocket. I was sold every since. People now ask me about Mooney's, I tell them, you have to stay in front of it and fly by the numbers. Wouldn't change now for any other plane out there.
  5. I used to think I would like to own a turbo prop (like the PC-12, but out of my price range), but after 3 years with the M20k 252, I lost all desire for a different plane. The 252 is one of the best planes I ever flew when you take in the speed, range, fuel, UL, and landing distances. Just amazing plane.
  6. Im in Montgomery, fly out of KCXO in Conroe. I would be happy to take you up. Im in Mexico now but should be back next week. I should warn you, I have a M20K 252. Hard to go to anything else after it. LOL. Just let me know, PM me and I will send my cell once I get back.
  7. John at OutRight Avionics in Conroe, Tx. He does good work.
  8. Looks like I will stay put today also due to the Wx. I will be going out to the airport (KCXO) today for the Armed Forces Day today. Looks like Kevin Lacey will be there today.
  9. I'm back from Israel, but this weekend wx looks rough. I would be up for next weekend.
  10. I fly into KTYS often, but I never took a tour over there. Next time I come up I will see if you around, maybe go get a bit to eat.
  11. I'm in Montgomery, Tx. Airport KCXO
  12. I was in HS working a summer job clearing pipe lines for ARCO pipe line and I remember see the plane fly over, thinking man that would be nice, but I come from a poor family that could never afford something like that, then I joined the Navy, about 4 years later jumping out of SH-60's, I knew that was for the bird's... Year later I got out of the Navy because they said I would never fly for them, I went and got my PPL. Been flying ever since.
  13. Had a Cherokee that the main was low one day when I went over to 11R. I put some air in it before leaving, got to 11R to eat and noticed it was low again. While eat there I decide to call my mechanic, he said just fly it back and he would put a new one on for me. After eating, went to the plane, still low so put more air in it flew it home. Got to KCXO, landed w/ a flat it wasnt easy but didnt damage anything, got off runway, and he came out and put a new one on. After that I put all new tires on.
  14. A C-130 was lumbering along when a cocky F-16 flashed by. The jet jockey decided to show off. The fighter jock told the C-130 pilot, 'watch this!' and promptly went into a barrel roll followed by a steep climb. He then finished with a sonic boom as he broke the sound barrier. The F-16 pilot asked the C-130 pilot what he thought of that? The C-130 pilot said, 'That was impressive, but watch this!' The C-130 droned along for about 5 minutes and then the C-130 pilot came back on and said: 'What did you think of that?' Puzzled, the F-16 pilot asked, 'What the heck did you do?' The C-130 pilot chuckled. 'I stood up, stretched my legs, walked to the back, took a leak, then got a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll.' When you are young & foolish - speed & flash may seem a good thing !!! When you get older & smarter - comfort & dull is not such a bad thing !!!
  15. Iranian Air Defense Site: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.' Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.' Air Defense Site: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!' Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!' Air Defense Site: ( .... total silence) God bless our troops. There is something about a Marine that makes other countries listen to reason.
  16. Ken and his wife Edna went to the state fair every year. And every year Ken would say, "Edna, I'd like to ride in that helicopter!" Edna always replied, "I know Ken, but that helicopter ride is fifty bucks, and fifty bucks is fifty bucks." One year, Ken and Edna went to the fair, and Ken said, "Edna, I'm 75 years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance" To this, Edna replied, "Ken, that helicopter ride is fifty bucks, and fifty bucks is fifty bucks." The pilot overheard the couple and said, "Folks, I'll make you a deal. I'll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and don't say a word, I won't charge you a penny! But if you say one word, it's fifty dollars." Ken and Edna agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, But still not a word... When they landed, the pilot turned to Ken and said, "By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!" Ken replied, "Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Edna fell out, but you know, fifty bucks is fifty bucks!"
  17. Well howdy Gerbil. Glad you decide to come over to Mooney. Lots of info here, so ask lots of questions, post the plane you thinking of. You will get alot feed back on it.
  18. Me and my friend was coming back to Houston (from Mobile) after getting some BBQ in my Cherokee, and had a strong head wind. Watching my speed and about Beaumont I realized I might not make it with the fuel I had left. One tank was 5gal and other about less than 10gals. I called ATC and told them I was going to stop for fuel. Head to Hardin County since I was right there, landed pulled up to pumps and had to call for someone to come out and turn on pumps. When I open my tanks to fill, one was completely dry and the other had maybe a gallon in it. To my surprise the fuel gauge wasnt that great (lol) and I always set higher personal minimums now due to that. It took around 47+gal to fill (50gal total).
  19. I carry a portable air pump in my plane to air up my tires, and have had to use it before. Makes it nice to have that plug for those 'just in case' places.
  20. Too early for me to know yet... Hopefully I will be back from Israel, if so, I will be there.
  21. Sorry no, it had a gear up in the history. Finance Co. wouldn't go for it. Test flight was smooth.
