  1. You should also get georeferenced approach plates on your MFD with the G1000 software upgrade. I have talked to the guys at McKee about doing the g1000 upgrade alone just for this feature. Have you tried that yet?
  2. Not familiar with the hardware that you're trying to update, but as a web developer, I can tell you it's a problem with your install of the plugin (which is specific to the browser that you're using). The address (gmnadu://) is not a valid web address, so for some reason, the plugin isn't intercepting the request and it's confusing Firefox. I would check the OS and browser requirements of the plugin that you're using and make sure that your system meets those requirements.
  3. I don't think I have the useful load to handle the kind of survival gear that you guys are recommending.
  4. So you're using both the GTX345 and the Flight Stream 210? That's the setup that I'm looking into, but I'm trying to decide if Flight Stream is worth it. It seems that the only thing that the FlightStream adds (that the GTX345 doesn't already provide) is flight plan transfer. Is that correct, or are there other features that I'm missing?
  5. Howdy. I think you're asking the wrong question. A better question would be "how much can I carry with enough fuel to go X miles". I have 100 gallon tanks, and I very rarely top them off because it's rarely necessary to do so.
  6. Beautiful airplane. Sorry to hear that you're selling.
  7. As it turns out, this adapter is not required in my Acclaim. While using both the standard mic port and the Bose lemo port, the standard mic port wins. I tried this in my J model though (which is still for sale with a recently lowered price, by the way), and that was not the case...so it appears to vary by model/year.
  8. Thanks, @LANCECASPER. That was me. Looks better now that the temporary tail number has been removed.
  9. Howdy, @atxtyson. I have an Acclaim and a t-hangar at Signature, and may be interested in taking on a partner. Shoot me a PM if you're interested. Thanks.
  10. Did a quick test on this on a flight yesterday in my J. Second headset on the standard mic jack, Bose headset in the lemo. ATC could not hear me through the mic on the second headset. Assuming the TN will be wired the same way...so it looks like I'll need the overpriced adapter. Anyways, thanks for the help.
  11. Anyone know if this adapter is required in order to use Bose headset using ship power with an oxygen mask+mic? Or can I just plug the oxygen mask's mic into the standard mic jack while the headset is on the lemo jack? In other words, which mic takes priority when a mic is plugged into both jacks? http://www.pilot-usa.com/adapters/bose-adapters/pa-100b.html
  12. That makes sense. The startup screen would bother me too, but if the performance increase is that perceptible (I'm in Texas with no A/C...I want to climb fast), then it would definitely be worth it. Yes, it's a Type S (SN 118). Close on July 19th...it's going to be a long month!
  13. Thanks Joe! Do you have the 310 STC? If so, were you able to update the G1000s with the new red line? I'm hearing that the necessary changes can me made within the G1000 configuration screens. Any other thoughts on the STC?
  14. I recently pulled the trigger on an Acclaim, so I'm selling the bird that my family so lovingly knows as "Juliet". She kept my little ones safe for about 8 years, and we are sad to see her go. Full quality pictures here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByTozTHXhY52cENxUUotVDhOdFU Controller listing: http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/1435525/1994-mooney-m20j-mse Also, I'm looking for a partner in the Austin or surrounding areas for the Acclaim. If you're interested, give me a shout.
  15. Unfortunately, I don't, but I'm going to the Mooney homecoming thing at KERV in a few of weeks. Not sure what kind of turnout they are expecting, but I will let you know if I run into anyone from that area that is interested. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I had a guy tell me that a J model was too much airplane for a new pilot, but I bought it anyways. Find a good instructor that knows Mooneys inside and out, and fly dual until you feel comfortable staying ahead of the airplane. Then fly solo until you feel confident. If I remember correctly, I put in 8-10 hours dual (including the complex endorsement), and 4 more hours before carrying passengers. That "felt" like the right amount of time, and it also turned out to meet insurance requirements. I have 500 hours now in my Mooney, and while I've learned from plenty of mistakes, I don't attribute any of them to the early transition to a Mooney. Oh, and flying over West Texas on a dark night is pretty much like flying in IMC. I would knock out your instrument rating with a Mooney guy as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I guess I did know that Direct To existed. Rather than do this in the nav log, it's easier to just search for the airport by identifier, then tap the orange Direct button on the left. I had no idea that the Nearest feature existed. That's a fairly important feature to have buried the way it is.
  18. Great questions. I generally use my 530 for the nearest feature though. And, while we're on feature requests, I'd like a way to push my flight plan from the app to the 530 wirelessly.
  19. I do agree that ADS-B suffices radar-wise when it's operational...low res is by no means a showstopper. However, when you're in a dead spot (i.e. not high enough yet)...there's nothing worse than staring at the hashed "no radar" area waiting to pick up an ADS-B station. This has happened to me twice after waiting on the weather to clear on the ground. ATC has routed me into an area where the echoes were, but I'm not picking up a station yet...so I don't know whether or not to deviate. This was departing AUS too, not somewhere in west Texas. Part of the problem is that there isn't a smooth transition from cell service to the Stratus. The iPad will attempt to connect to the internet through the Stratus as long as it has a wifi connection....so it's best to leave wifi off until you can pick up an ADS-B station. The problem is that you don't know when that is until you're connected to the Stratus. All of this is a pain and a big distraction, especially if you're hand flying (which I do 90% of the time, even with a capable autopilot). The bottom line for me is that I have to be much more conservative in go/no go's with the Stratus vs. XM weather, because XM is way more reliable. I really hope that the original Stratus was the problem though, because free WX and traffic is great...especially considering traffic will get more reliable the closer we get to 2020. John, how about we just trade Stratuses for a few weeks, and then I'll report back
  20. That's the nature of the beast when it comes to mobile development. It's very time consuming (and thus expensive) to keep supporting old devices. I can tell you that I have the original Stratus, and I am not a big fan. Here are my complaints: The charging connection on the back is not secure, so there are times that it unplugs and I don't know it until the Stratus is dead. It stays disconnected for more than it stays connected, and that's not an exaggeration. When flying on a hot summer day, it overheats on my glareshield and turns itself off. ADS-B coverage is extremely spotty. I'm usually receiving from no more than 1 station, and sometimes 0. This is at 6-10,000 feet, not on the ground. No WX during the climb, and none on the ground unless you have a good cellular connection. Radar is low-res, and coverage doesn't extend beyond your region. Obviously, some of these things are general ADS-B complaints, and some may be based on the fact that I'm in TX. That being said, I am very interested to hear about the Status 2. I was a very early adopter of the original one, so maybe these things are limited to that device. I had the 696 for a while, and WX on that was fantastic. I sold it because I hate the monthly cost of XM, and keeping it up to date costs an arm and a leg. I really do miss the XM weather though. I would recommend the retina iPad mini over the iPad air, especially in a Mooney. I couldn't find a good place to mount my old iPad, so it stayed unsecured on my left leg. Ultimately, I slid my seat over it and broke it...and thus had to switch to the mini. Despite previously hating having things mounted on the yoke, that's where I have the mini, and I love it.
  21. According to this, the ARM is 105.8: http://www.mooney.com/images/pdfs/mark20e_afm_wtbal.pdf
  22. Lee: thanks...I'll check. I assumed that no one locally would have them if Bezos and Co. didn't. Howdy Scott! '04 here.
  23. A couple of rusty staples would work better than what I have.
  24. Anyone know where I can order a POH binder replacement?
