  1. This is aviation... you need to raise the bet. $10,000 is the kiddie table at this casino
  2. I'd sell the GI 106A and put it towards upgrading the Aspen...
  3. You can be thankful it's not your money making up that deposit. Better it's some other sucker. Any plane can pass an annual. You just have to find the right AI. There was a guy here in Texas who would sign anyone's log book. You had to print or write out the sticker yourself, bring him a $100 bill and a box of beer and he'd sign your log book. He just didn't care. So even if it does pass an annual, you can be glad it's not your deposit.
  4. Yep, spend the $160K and with a little luck around corrosion, and the other stuff, you'll be the proud owner of an $80K airplane.
  5. That cable on the prop is a bit redundant. Use it to go lock up a bicycle somewhere, this plane isn't ever going anywhere.
  6. Yes, even in my 252 with the inner gear doors. But only on nice groomed/short cut grass... or dry lake beds like 88NV.
  7. WashWax All actually sells a scrub pad that I use on the leading edges to get the bugs off. I spray everything down and let it soak for a couple of minutes then get the scrubber out. After scrubbing the bugs off, then spray it all down again and use a microfiber towel to finish it off. Almost forgot... never use anything but microfiber towels on the windows.
  8. Truth is, that's the first button on the whole panel she learned how to use. And after upgrading to the new PMA450b, she immediately wanted to know how to "turn me and the radio, off."
  9. Should I tell my wife that we'll get there faster if she'll ride in the back seat?
  10. Correct. But the point still stands that you can't replace BOTH your TC and AI with a single G5. You can replace one of them, but not both. And in this case, the OP has already replaced his AI with the G5, therefore it can't be used as a TC.
  11. Most commonly, the dual G5's are there to replace the AI and the DG/HSI. A G5 can be either an AI or a TC but not both according to the STC.
  12. Maybe so, but I'm sure the best TAS I ever saw in my C was around 7000 or 8000 ft. I was WOT, 2500, leaned for best power. Those settings would give me a DMax verified, 152+ knots TAS. I assumed that there was something about it being the best compromise between less wind resistance and enough O2 for power.
  13. I can make your M&M's float in my Mooney for a couple of seconds as well.
  14. The adds popped up this morning... reminding me it's that time of year for me again. Donation sent. And thanks again for keeping the forum up and running.
  15. While it's true that NA engines loose HP with altitude, there is still a sweet spot where the ratio is optimal. My understanding is that that is somewhere around 8000 ft for the J? I've never been to FL280 to try for 252 mph in my K but I've seen 238 mph at FL260. *all figures in TAS
  16. Yep, I've got one as well. 24v. Make an offer, consider shipping, they're heavy.
  17. I used to have one of those on my motorcycle for enduro racing.
  18. I find the Mooney quite easy to move without a tow bar. And just a little pressure one way or the other gets it to turn just fine. If you need a sharper turn, just have someone put pressure on one of the wings out near the tip. I learned this from DMax while he was moving a plane around his lot without a tow bar.
  19. +1 for the WashWax All products. I use the blue everywhere and the red or purple for the belly and other greasy bits. It doesn't require any water or clean up after.
  20. Thanks! I would like to use a seat for this coming Sunday. @Bryan hopefully your plane is done by the weekend and you're flying it home. We're planning to go to Houston on Sunday to see some friends and my wife has told me they're hoping I'll give them a ride in the Mooney. But my back seats are in Denver. If the weather looks good towards the end of the week, I'll reach out and swing by BAZ. Thanks @JRam and @Bryan.
  21. My 1987 K has the removable rear bucket seats. The seat bottoms are just cushions that velcro in, and the seat backs just slide over the seat back frame. I believe these seats are common to all Mooneys for a specific range of years of the mid-body models. I have two questions. What year models included this type of rear seats? And does anyone in the Austin/Houston area have a seat cushion and seat back cushion I could borrow for a day?
  22. One of the best Mooney videos I've seen! Thanks!
  23. Just a little of the good time y'all are missing here in Texas.
  24. I had the same problem with my M20C about 5 years ago. I called Don Maxwell to order a whole new mechanism. He told me to check the trim screws holding it in place to see if any were to long. Bingo, one screw was to long same as yours. Problem fixed. I think this must be a common problem with those roof vent mechanisms.
