  1. I have logged 33 hours and many approaches with my CFII. He left for vacation but I want to keep building my time toward the check ride. If I use a safety pilot and keep flying under hood and shooting approaches I can log it as the simulated instrument experience and count it for my 40 hours requirements, right? When he comes back I will fly with him again and he will evaluate my progress of course, but theoreticaly I will be legally ready for the check ride, right? I have done my 250nm and written.
  2. The rules say a pilot needs 40 hours logged in the actual or simulated conditions in order to be able to get the check ride endorsement. It also says that 15 of those hours have to be with the CFII as a part of the IR training. Does it mean that 25 hours could be done under hood with only a safety pilot that it is not CFII or even CFI?
  3. I will definitely bring something like baked ziti, chicken cutlets, potato salad, fruits, water. I will be nice to my wife for next couple of weeks so she can make something.
  4. I used it all summer last year on the glare shield with no issues. My iPad on my knee shuts off from overheating long before the GDL.
  5. I have a Bose headset with the blue tooth capability but I can use the blue tooth for phone calls only. Any other audio (including terrain and traffic alerts) from either phone or iPad have to be hard wired through 3.5 mm mini jack cable.
  6. I have replaced my plugs with Tempest Finewire ones. I don't know the part number for your engine. You can find it out on the Tempest website. My engine ran pretty rough while taxiing and sometimes misfired specially during taxiing. Yes, I lean aggressively. Hot start of the engine was almost impossible and embarrassing after every refueling. My engine runs very smooth now in the 800 - 1200 RPM range with any leaning setting. No problems during taxiing at all. Cold start is 1/4 of the prop turn. Instant. For the hot start I follow the procedure that some members described here on the forum. I shut the engine off with the throttle in the 1200 RPM position by cutting the mixture off. Then I don't touch anything ( no boost pump, no mixture, throttle at the 1200 RPM - last position) and I just crank the starter. It takes few turns but the engine smoothly starts and runs at 1200 RPM right away. I very pleased with the Tempest Finewire plugs. Some people suggested that you can get the same results with the new massive plugs too but I am pretty happy with the Finewire.
  7. I already have one ( GDL39 3D). I got it few months ago and I literally use it every day as I am in the middle of my IR and I fly every day. I am very pleased with it, accuracy is great, nice to have AI backup and synthetic vision. Very important thing is that I had no connection problems at all and it doesn't overheat even with the sun blasting on it for many hours.
  8. I have heard a lot of Mooney activity in the air today. I hope I didn't miss any fly out.
  9. I have installed the Tempest Finewire plugs yesterday. My old Champion plugs looked very good after we pulled them out. Clean and no build up. I didn't bother to find out when previous owner put them in. But I always had a little rough idle and taxi RPM ( 1000-1200). I tried all kind of leaning settings. Always rough and misfire. I picked my plane from the mechanic and the engine was hot as they test it after the swap. The hot start was no different from the old plugs. It doesn't start right away and sometimes it needs few tries. I have to play with it more to find that right procedure. Sometimes it is scary after refueling. But as I taxied I would swear it felt better and I couldn't really notice any missing beats in the engine run. I leaned aggressively and engine was still running pretty smooth with stable RPMs. Cold start with my old plugs was never bad and it started after 3-4 turns of the prop. This morning - the first cold start with the Finewires and I think the prop didn't even move 1/4 of the turn and engine was smoothly running. I was pretty impressed. I don't have the engine monitor installed yet ( it's coming soon) so I can't provide any other parameters from the flight but it is definitely not worse that before. I am pretty happy with the change.
  10. Check this post out. People are discussing best options for NYC. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/11522-where-is-cheap-tie-down-parking-near-manahattan/
  11. Wow. I thought I am asking very simple question when I started this topic. Now I am afraid to touch anything with a red knob in my plane. Pretty confusing and hot.
  12. I like polished one which I have on my J.
  13. I used headrests from Dodge Grand Caravan.
  14. This is one crazy app. It is unbelievable how much information we can process today with the handheld devices. The feature that you can point your camera to the sky and target the airliner is really crazy. Cool.
  15. I am definitely in and marking my calendar for May 10th. But I am pretty flexible because since I got my J I have no friends or family life. My work is on hold too.
  16. Yes, lets do something together.
  17. Good idea Brian. I will get back to you.
  18. Do you deliver to New Jersey?
  19. Don't new plugs come with the gaskets?
