  1. I have a vac gauge in my 1977 J. Left upper corner. I don't know if it was installed with the new plane.
  2. Monmouth Executive KBLM
  3. I use iPAD mini on the window mount and regular iPAD on my knee. I use GDL39 3D and Garmin GLO GPS as a back up. I made a custom mount for my iPad mini as I figured out that that's the best spot for me. It is right height, distance and angle for me to read and touch. I couldn't find anything ready to use so I fabricated one. I used the iPad mini knee pad as a platform. I removed all the straps and Velcro. I have attached it to the GoPro plate that comes with the new camera. The camera sits on it in the box when you buy it new. I used 4 flat head screws to put it together. Then I used GoPro suction cup with slight modification to put it all together and attach it to the side window. I use it for 6 months now and I am very happy with the setup.
  4. This time I used GoPro cameras. One is installed on the step with the handlebar mount. Another ones are installed either on the window with the suction cup holder or just held in the hand. I have 3 cameras so it allows me to take different angles at the time and then cut and edit it to the short movie.
  5. I bought my 1977 M20J in January 2014 with the ET 485 SNEW. The annual was done at the same time. I have flown almost 100 hours since then and the ET is 576 hours now. My question is if there are any ADs or any other issues that should be taken care of at 100/500 hours of ET. What is the best source to get this kind of information and keep them current? Thanks, Bob
  6. I will need to fly through and land in the Washington DC Special Flight Rules Area multiple times soon. Where can I find all the rules and procedures to follow in plain English? Thank you.
  7. Cross wind TO&L practice tomorrow
  8. From the album: Cross wind TO&L practice tomorrow

Good winds for tomorrow's TO&L cross wind practice
  9. I got my PPL in July 2013 and bought my J in December when I had 120 hours mostly in Cherokee. I started to fly again in February after my plane was finally ready and weather improved. No issues with the transition. But I tried to fly any minute possible. I started my IFR on April 1st 2014 and earned my IR ticket two weeks ago on June 1st. I had no issues with getting behind the plane or anything like that during my IFR training. I did 30.3 hours under hood and 10 hours on the simulator when weather was bad. ( My instructor wouldn't fly in IMC until very end). I flew almost 100 hours since February and that helped me to get and stay familiar with the plane. With all that said I don't think you will have any issues to do your IFR training in your E. You just have to fly as much as possible.
  10. My is 1785.53 empty with 3 blade prop.
  11. Inspiring. I am proud of my J.
  12. I watch and search that all the time as one of my instructors got killed too. It was N176MA at Linden, NJ. It happened in May 2013 but latest reports and cause of accidents I found are from 2011. I think it takes them almost 3 years to release the final report.
  13. Beside all the official FAA literature I used Peter Dogan's Instrument Flying Manual and Sporty's Instrument App on my iPAD. The app was particularly good help as I took it with me everywhere and read and practice the exams all the time. I love reading and studying and I didn't really find this one harder than PPL one. I think the FAA changed / added questions in the tests as I definitely found some in my test that I never even heard about. Specially there is bunch of new stuff about the GPS navigation, database, etc. I don't have the GPS in my plane for now so I didn't even pay attention to that matter. I got 2 answers wrong on the test that were related to the GPS.
  14. Thanks. Ordered. I love to read and learn. And fly.
  15. I have passed my Instrument rating exam and check ride today. My first under hood flight was April 1st so it took me 2 months. The examiner said it is way too easy to fly this Mooney. I take it as a compliment. Very happy. Thanks for all your good advices.
  16. My J backfired while taxiing. It wasn't too bad but very annoying. All the time. I swapped the plugs for tempest fine wire. No problems since then.
  17. And it's time to ask some tough questions.
  18. Wow. Very glad to hear that you are ok. Great performance.
  19. It's hard to say and it is a tough call specially when you fell in love with the plane as I did. My J had a new engine in 1999 and only 480 hours when I bought it this January. It was flying very little last 5 years. I think they just started the engine here and there. I was aware of the risk of corrosion in the engine. But the rest of plane was so nice including the paint job that I couldn't resist. Bring the point of the engine corrosion to the negotiating table and try to get the price down so you cover 1/2 of the overhaul. That's what I did. It worked. Since last February I put 70 hours on my J, I change my oil every 25 hours and send the oil sample to the Blackstone labs every time ( 3 times so far). The first oil analysis wasn't too good but not too bad as well. But after another 25 hours the oil numbers improved dramatically. No visible metal in the oil filter too. Good compression on all cylinders. I know it is not a definitive answer to the corrosion problem but I do my best to keep it healthy. So far so good. So I would ask the previous owner to run the engine hot, get the oil sample and send it overnight to the lab. Take the oil filter out and get it checked. If anybody can peek inside the cylinders with the bore scope that would help too. Leaking tanks - mine leak too. It is what it is right now. It passed the annual. I don't smell any gas inside the cabin and I don't see any dripping. Good luck.
  20. $300.
  21. I have already 33 flight hours under hood of instructions from my CFII and many hours on my home simulator. As I said I will continue with him after he is back from his vacation and I will continue until he says I am ready. I don't rush anywhere and saving money is not my priority.
