Correct, perfect! Thank you!

Hi Jim: First, you may or may not have flightmate(R), it was something that we added just before we announced the PMA450B in July 2019. What is your serial number? Reviewing section 3.9 from the installation manual for the PMA450A that has flightmate(R) reads: 3.9 flightmate® (Part Number 050-450-0103, -0104, -0202 & -0204 ONLY) is an audio storage system with four audio messages that can be activated by external triggers, and acknowledged if desired. flightmate MUST be activated from the installer setup menu. Contact your PS Engineering installing dealer for information. When triggered, the recorded audio will play in the pilot’s headset. Alert #1 has been designed as a priority alert nd will continue to play until the trigger has cleared. Alert 2, 3 and 4 can be stopped if the “Acknowledge” button is pushed while the audio is playing. Only input number 1 (pin J2 17) is designed for a Sonalert input. Input 2, 3, and 4 can be triggered by either a rising or falling edge. The PMA450B has additional capability such as a one shot alert for inputs 2, 3, and 4 Sorry for the confusion. Mark

Just want to make a couple of points 1) One cannot remove a Sonalert and replace with flightmate, flightmate is a supplement to the primary device 2) Only a positive voltage (12 or 28 volts DC) Sonalert will work with flightmate. This means if your Sonalert is grounded to activate, flightmate will not work. Hope this helps. Mark

Well....I had no idea that was in there. That is very wrong. Can’t replace Sonalerts, flightmate is a supplement. I’ll get that corrected right away! Thanks for taking the time to help, really appreciate that! Mark
-
I’m pretty sure it doesn’t say you can replace any TC part. A sonalert installed by the factory can not be removed. flightmate is in addition to the sonalert NOT a replacement. Sure would appreciate it if you could point me to the manual that indicates replacing something. Thank you! Mark

Your unit was sold to Rheinland Air Service on Feb 15, 2002. Option 6 was for our Mooney OEM, it has the built-in marker but uses the marker lamps on the instrument panel. Your unit does NOT have option 1, which was our aural warning system, so what ever you are hearing, it is coming from a device that is hooked up, probably to an unswitched unmuted input. Hope this helps. By the way, there is a slide-in replacement you should consider if you ever want to have Bluetooth integrated, it is also 16 year newer design. http://ps-engineering.com/pma7000bt.shtml Mark Scheuer PS Engineering

You have my word you will not be disappointed. In fact, I believe you will feel you made the best decision for your airplane’s audio system. Thanks for trusting Mark Scheuer

Thanks David for your vote of confidence and I don’t blame you for being cautious. No incompatibilities what so ever. Been Plug ‘N Play since 2004 with the GMA340, not one instant of an incompatibility ever uncovered. Like I mentioned, make sure you are clear about the Music muting of the GMA345. Ask “can I choose to have everything mute the music, only the radio mute the music, or not have the music mute at all.” Then ask “what happens to all of the others who are listening to your music“. Remember, everyone hears either Music 1, Music 2, or Bluetooth, unless you configure switch the rear mounted switch to have the passengers always hear music 2. To the best of my know, edge, there is no music distribution. Mark PS Engineering

Yes, you’d turn music mute off for the pilot (copilot and passengers can listen to their own music and set up their music muting and volume independently). Pilot audio source selections: (independent music volume and muting) Music 1 Music 2 BT 1 BT 2 BT1 and BT 2 Music 1 and BT1 Music 1 and BT2 SAME FOR COPILOT Passengers:(volume control and muting for pax) Music 1 Music 2 BT 1 BT 2 Hope this helps. Out of curiosity, besides the name on the panel, what doesn’t match? Mark Scheuer PS Engineering

Thank you Steven for your invitation. Regarding “Softmute”, PS Engineering Trade Marked the name in 1992 when we introduced the PM3000 intercom. The word “Softmute” actually was coined by Marc Cook, at that time, a writer for AOPA. it refers to the slow return of the music once it is muted. While we have legal rights to patent 4,941,187 (now expired) we wanted to give the pilot even more flexibility of music by being able to turn muting off completely. We call that the Karaoke Mode”. I often will place my tunes in the background with the aircraft radio in the foreground. This works perfectly for me, especially when I’m being bounced around in IMC, it helps to take the edge off. The GMA345 only allow the selection of music that everyone hears, this is accomplished by pressing the SEL button. Everyone can her Bluetooth, Music 1, or Music 2. There is a switch in the rear right side of the unit which, when switched, allows the passengers to always hear music 2. So in fact, it does not have music distribution, as far as I know. The PMA8000 series provides much more flexibility for music distribution while the PMA450B can do just about anything. IMHO, unless the pilot wants to use GARMIN’s Telligence with the GTN series, or doesn’t have room for stand alone audio panel, I personally can’t think of a single reason why to go with any other audio panel than one of ours. And I’m trying very hard to be objective! I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have. Mark Scheuer PS Engineering

Hi Niko, first thanks for trusting us with your audio panel, I hope that you are getting everything you want out of it. (Check out this YouTube video PMA450B Review) As far as your radio transmissions, whether the PMA450B is ON or if it is OFF, the microphone mechanically connected during radio transmissions. The audio panel has no impact on the microphone's performance. The Bose A20 holds FAA TSO, so Bose had to pass specific microphone impedance and gain tests. Little known fact that modern amplified dynamic microphones must replicate the electrical characteristics of the old fashion Carbon Microphones! Visiting Quiet Technologies' website, it specifically calls out that the Halo is not FAA TSO'd. That is not necessarily a bad thing nor is it required. But I can't say that it is true carbon mic equivalent. Halos are excellent headsets! Many of our customers love them. But it is important to me that you understand that when using our audio panels, there is nothing between your mic and the radio while you are transmitting, except a mechanical connection. We took the belt and suspender's approach. Hope this information is of help.

Audio panel upgrade - GMA 340 or PMA 7000?
Mscheuer replied to Ross Taylor's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I would highly recommend you look at this link before making your final decision. Used or New, no comparison! PMA8000B to GMA340 Comparison Thanks! Mark -
Hi Matt, I just couldn't help myself. Thank you for flying with our original PMA8000BT (circa 2006), with those beautiful G5's at that GTN, I could resist to show you what the "ultimate panel" would look like. Sincerely, Mark

Leave it to a cinematographer to not only make a video of our audio panel informative, he's made it entertaining too! Hope you enjoy watching this as much as I did. SoCal Flying Monkey Mark Scheuer PS Engineering, Inc.

That’s correct Frank, 100% slide-in replacement but additional wiring required to implement flightmate.

Audio Panel - Panel Mount vs Remote
Mscheuer replied to RFriesen's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Similar thread on Beechtalk. My comment is if you have room for a stand-alone audio panel and you do not want Telligence, then IMHO I can’t think of a single reason to install a remote audio panel. Also, it is my understanding that in the event the GTN750 should go off, the audio panel failsafes to the second radio. That’s fine. But not only have you lost your nice large navigator page, you’ll have to tell the passengers “sorry, the intercom isn’t working... -
Photoshop can be very dangerous. I hope you don't mind that I took some liberty. The PMA450B slides right in where the GMA340 is, and unless you go with the GTN and want Voice Recognition, I honestly believe the money you spend on this upgrade you will be pleased with for many years to come.

Hi Skydvrboy, we made a significant improvements on storing and recalling frequencies. Thanks to the 3-soft keys and OLED graphics display, we have a dedicated “Rcl” soft key. Simply press “Rcl” and select one of the five store frequencies, press enter and it immediately places it into active while the previous frequency goes into standby. Storing a frequencies is just as easy. I hope I’ll be able to put some videos together this week on some of the key enhancements. I think the biggest one is IntelliAudio.

Mlm20c was spot on. The AMX240 was based upon our PMA8000BT, so the drawing that was posted is correct. There is a 4th unswitched/unmuted input on the other connector. Feel free to go to www.ps-engineering.com/downloads.shtml Mark

PS Engineering 8000BT vs Garmin GMA 345
Mscheuer replied to Lance Link's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I spent a few minutes looking at the current PMA8000BT Pilot Guide and we completely missed that opportunity. I have gone in and made corrections, made it Rev 11, and I think you'll see it is considerably better than before. Always looking for ways in making things better, so we will look at how we describe the special functions and hope to have a different approach in the future. But for now, at least our graphics align with the text ... http://www.ps-engineering.com/docs/PMA8000BT_NUI_PG.pdf Thanks again Mark
