I have both the 650 and the 750 and if I had to choose one it would definitely be the 750. I fly a fair amount of IFR the 750 has a few options that the 650 does not but the screen size is the most significant difference and you especially notice when you have them one on top of the other. I am sure you have already checked everything online (and wow there is a lot to check, especially if you check other than Garmin) Here is a link to Garmin comparison product brochure if you are interested. http://www8.garmin.com/aviation/pdfs/GTN_series_brochure.pdf Fly Safe, Rocket On,

While this report is sad indeed and I did not know Patrick I plan to use it along with the all the good posts here as a stern reminder of all the considerations that I as a pilot need to take into account. Also especially appreciate Byron's comment on how important it is to know our airplane and how it flies.... & climbs. His example which I have had personal experience with where I needed to increase airflow to get the climb I wanted... One of my favorite sayings: You know the difference between a smart man and a wise man? The Smart man learns from his mistake! The Wise man learns from someone else mistake! Thanks for a great forum and posts from all! Fly safe, Rocket On!

Looking into Tri-Flow.... I see a handful or more of Tri-Flow lubricants can anyone expand on which one or ones they specifically recommend. I can locate at least 4 or more versions of Tri-Flow with PTFE... Are they all the same and do I need other Tri-Flow products? Examples: PTFE Lubricant, Container Type Aerosol Can, Size 16 oz., Temp. Range -60 to 475 Degrees F, NSF H2 Features: -Lubricant.-Great for all surfaces that slide, glide, roll, turn, twist, spin, or pivot.-Contains micron sized particles made from Teflon.-Shields against rust and corrosion.-Penetrates and frees frozen mechanism.-12 oz aerosol.

I recently purchased 2 factory numbered sets, I have already installed the left side set and do not want to sell the one set I have left and as I plan to add brakes to right side. I have a machine shop in my plant and I estimate it would take 4 to 5 hours to build a set on a 1 up basis including powder coating so 300 would be cheap. Also I called http://www.swta.net/mooneyproductinfo/mooneymodspricelist.html they had a set coming in but wanted $700 for them! I do have the drawings for the extensions that someone here at Mooneyspace provided me. Not a hard part at all.

Crossing the desert in August
RocketAviator replied to AmigOne's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Looks like several beat me to it... I WOULD STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND YOU FLY FAST AND LOW ALONG THE BORDER... I will bet money on it since my nephew is a border patrol agent in that area and he has told me they do track and intercept low flying aircraft (remember the tethered radar balloon TFR, your flying right beside it... hmmm) !!! In addition to that there are some big hills... some call them mountains that raise up to 12K between Phoenix and El Paso! This is not exactly a flat desert... more like a high desert 5T6 & KELP = 4200' and in the center of El Paso a 8000' mountain! Ok lets not make this a mountain out of a mole hill... in my Mooney it is a 1:45 min to 2:00 hr flight from Phoenix to 5T6! No big deal, the scenery is great lots of variability! I would personally say no need for almost anything on your list if you are thinking of only this portion of the flight.... Last thought relax this is no big deal, FLY HIGH & EARLY or LATE & enjoy the ride and USE ATC.... I almost never fly VFR and therefor always in contact with ATC but when I do fly VFR I always use flight following!!! Great folks very helpful and someone always has you in their sights! If I don't see you at Oshkosh let me know when to expect you and we will take good care of you! -

If you stop by 5T6 or El Paso and insist or just want we can also take you for some great pork ribs too.... Heck we can do it all, now just tell me where else in the world can you get such a selection... Best Mexican Food in the World, Best BBQ all kinds, Best place to save $ on fuel, Best Host... (well...) Best.... ok I think you get the point that I am maybe a little more than biased about the food we have available here! We would welcome you if you decide to come this way and if not and find yourself in need give me a call! Good luck and fly safe, Rocket ON! -
Please post or PM me especially if you have had personal experience with Hampton Aviation out of Mena AR. Trying to make a finial decision today and would appreciate any feedback. From what I can find they seem to be ok, however I would sure like any first hand Pireps! Thanks in advance,

I live in El Paso, home base 5T6 Dona Anna County ie Santa Teresa NM 10 miles west of KELP 8000' runway. Save yourslef some serious $ on fuel at 5T6. Great World Class War Eagle Museum on Field! I have flown the route from Phoneix, Tucson and most points in between more times than I can count... i think... during all months of the year... Common Sense and should be a very anti-climatic event.. Simple Fly early or late and high for best ride, if you are heavy DONT FORGET DENSITY ALT... it will kick your tail or worse! Coming in from the West and headed East there is much to be seen but again beauty is in the eye of the beholder i guess! Ok back to your point, highly recommend you do not fly low especially crossing the mountain range between Phoenix - Tucson towards El Paso and the same headed East out of El Paso.... again common sense! There is virtually no part of this lower US route that you will be out of radar at 12 to 15k and in most cases much lower. The border radar picks most traffic up even down to the ground! Beware if not on IFR flight plan there is a constant TFR (border radar tethered balloon) just about 70 miles West of El Paso If you stop by El Paso or 5T6 give me a call and I will take you to what I think is the best BBQ and you can judge for yourself.... You bet it is BEEF, BEEF RIBS, BEEF BRISKET or the Best Mexican Food in all of the World... ok I might be a little biased but not much! Ditto on Tucson and not CG PM me for more info or my contact information. I hope to go to Oshkosh this year but it is not looking good at this point! Common sense, reasonable preparations (I always like the SPOT) but come on it is not like we are out in the uninhabited Wild West here.... Fly safe, good luck, -
Great looking plane, welcome to the Mooney family, I have found them to be very informative and extremely helpful bunch of people!

Can we say "Priceless!!" You guys are killing me.... ok looks like I will have to control myself and not view this post ANYMORE..... I might have a heart attack or worse.... Now what was it I needed in case of involuntary discharge again? oh yea "wife can you stop by the store today and pick me up some Depends"

OK no more 201er posts.... I cant take it anymore!!! My wife is asking me what SO FUNNY...... I was laughing so hard I could not answer her!!!
-
NOT SO Not so 201er.... Just claim you were only getting 1/2 of the benefit and still had all the cost!!! ergo Commercial Pilot Endorsement not required....
-
This is the most hilarious post I have ever seen in an aviation forum..... While it maybe one of the most informative too.... Could have never imagined!! Way to go 201er
-
Well while being far to close to the real truth.... it is TMI... I am absolute hurting from laughing so hard, I read this post to my wife and we are both rolling!! However I must admit I am now considering putting a care package in my plane to include underwear etc... NOT for this express function mind you but in case I get caught somewhere and have to stay overnight you understand of course!!!! Now what was that other club I need to talk to my wife about?

I am one that recently installed the G500 with SVT glass panel upgrade. I used the online training aids by Garmin and there is a host of other online videos and forums, all of which I found very useful. I called Garmin and they sent me a DVD bit it was the same as can be found online. The turn rate indicator is included in the G500 and also has the 6 second where you will be.... which I have found very useful in executing complex turn, hold and anticipating intercepts etc. I especially like the Safe-Taxi as it seem I am always at some airport which I am unfamiliar! Not so much on the Flight Charts.... I prefer my Voyager software and even the FlyQ better and much less expensive, but it comes in the Pilot Pak so I download them but have never used them. As for the SVT I am not as impressed with that as I thought I would be, however I have only had the system a little over a month. I do like the graphic display of the approaching runway and take off runway especially for night flights! The feature I use the and enjoy the convenience of most is the Altitude Pre-select and Vertical Speed Pre-select! The traffic notice has been remarkably useful however I believe it may only indicate other ADS-B aircraft but when it indicates other traffic it is right were it says it is and twice now it has been extremely useful! Disappointing that Garmin has not yet come through with integrating the ADS-B from my GTN 750 displaying weather onto the G500... They say soon as they have been saying soon for some time now! Fly safe, Rocket On!

I would like to know more about these camera you mention? Brand, Model, Price where to purchase? Do you have any information on installation requirements?

I am in OKC with the Mooney group, as far as I know everyone in the Mooney group is ok, no damage that I am aware of at the hotel where we are all staying. A couple of us just came from the airport where several Mooney's were tied down outside, no apparent damage that we could see. Will check more closely tomorrow. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts, Lacee

Do you have an angle of attack indicator (poll)
RocketAviator replied to 201er's topic in General Mooney Talk
Not so on at least my version of an AOA it does and it very accurately tells you linearly how close you are and is accurate in various flight maneuvers such as turns! While there are vane type which mine is not my AOA is also not an Air Speed Sensor it is a differential pressure sensor. Fly safe, Rocket On!
