Ouch......but so true there Fantom!!! LOL! Kinda of like being 18 years old hummm....

Thanks for the update Ocsar, that explains why I could not find anymore info on UNISON website! Sounded like a great idea to me, where one could take advantage of the newest technology with the old as a proven backup.... NOW THAT is what I would like to see more of in the aviation world.... then we could get some real world reliability data!

My Ol bucket of bolts flies again!
RocketAviator replied to RocketAviator's topic in General Mooney Talk
B26, since the FAA has not officially notified me that it has concluded its review into the incident, according to AOPA it is best I not comment on the details of the incident. Thankfully the good news was that there was no injury and damage was only to my airplane and of course my pride!!! -
My Ol bucket of bolts flies again!

Hampton Aviation Mena AR, I am following it and them very closely but so far I am pleased if not impressed but I will hold finial PIREP until the job is finished. I have been told that I am anal about my plane but I have everything in writing and get reports on a daily basis.... I bet I am not their favorite customer... LOL. So far they have been very pro-active like sending me the image you see and providing me a comprehensive pre & post flight report. I did advance them the parts funding portion of the estimate so they could secure the parts and get started ASAP and hopefully knock out what now is running on 2 weeks waiting for the insurance company adjuster response! I did talk to the adjuster and he said he was ok with me advancing the funding and did not see any problems but it still puts me at some risk but the airplane must be fixed regardless! Will keep you posted. Let me know how your deal goes! -
New Avionics Panel for the ol Rocket
RocketAviator replied to RocketAviator's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Aviatoreb, It was a fairly simple process, it did take 3 flights. All 3 flights with a second pilot (1st two with installer who is also a pilot), we had to land and increase the angle of the probe. The instructions were easy to follow and the slow flight was the most challenging as it took me a couple times to determine what safety factor level I wanted to use. I decided to use about a 5kt over first sign of stall clean IAS as my critical angle of attack set point. By the way the stall horn was going off continuously during all the slow flight / maximum angle of attak calibration. Other than that part it was fairly straight forward and very easy to calibrate, I don't find myself using it as much as I thought I would but it is a great "backup indication". My approaches are always not very close to stall. With gear extended I turn base 95, once on straight finial lower speed to 85 and cross the numbers at 75 usually with only very minor if any throttle adjustment until I touch down, then reduce to full idle. Let me know how it works for you and if you find anything better or have any problems.- 23 replies

The Rocket I have.... with lets see, just a few small improvements like: easier in & out for pilot & luggage, something like my Saratoga with six seats (that could really haul six people & full fuel & luggage), FIKI, pressurized, restroom, radar. At this moment that's about all I can think of that my Rocket does not have now! oh I forgot what the rules Scott outlined were... so I guess I would just have to say the one I have because it really is my dream plane as far as I could afford in any case! I too would be up for a meet & meal and take part in the AOPA activity too. Dont know if any of you have considered Oshkosh but that too would be a great place to meet up in my opinion!

Ok Don you ask so here you go. Lacee Lamphere is my real name! But as a Lawyer you alone should know that the more information that one discloses does not necessary equate to more beneficial. I will PM you my brief Bio.

Thanks Don & Jamie! Man these Mooney folks are just alright!!! Just read the information "GREAT"

Both they are virtually equal to me with the equipment I have! I think the LPV is going or at least could be a great factor in airports that dont have ILS due to cost! More than that I think LPV or something like them may eventually replace the conventional ILS... just my 2 cents! Did someone say "backcourse"!!

I heart for these guys!

Impressive!! I dont need right now but would appreciate if you would PM me with approximate estimate of your reseal project? -
I cant get either link to work for me? Anyone else getting Page Not Found or is it just me?

Just to lighten things up a bit for all you Easterners!.... There is absolutely NO green around my home base.... If I see green I know I am not anywhere close to home! Just saying you might want to pick a universally relate able image.... heck next thing you will be using something called water for reference!! Fly Safe, Rocket On!

Keep non-aviation politics out of AOPA!
RocketAviator replied to Becca's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Ohhh You got Byron 201er.... you got him good! However I do agree with Byron.....! -
I have to remind myself that "you know these folks are people just like me" & you!.... I do appreciate their efforts and all the benefits they provide to me and others flying around me when I fly! I believe like most people I appreciate when an extra over and beyond effort is made on my behalf and on the same hand I don't appreciate being jerked around anymore than anyone else does... Wish I could say I never jerked any of the ATC around but..... and yes I have been jerked around by ATC but most have been very professional and gracious (even when I was the one who made multiple mistakes....) Bottom line I could not fly like I fly without the ATC and I appreciate and Thankfull for the ATC and all of what they do for me and all those that fly around me! Fly Safe Rocket On!

My Ol bucket of bolts flies again!
RocketAviator replied to RocketAviator's topic in General Mooney Talk
Thanks Hank, we still have a long road in front of us but if all goes as planned & "promised" on or before August 1... she'll be as good as new! -

It is my understanding they are reported to work well, although I have not personally used or flown in an airplane that has one. I have installed and use one in my boat and my off road equipment.... I know not the same environment but I can attest to better fuel, easier starting and better acceleration in multiple engine driven platforms. I plan to put one on my Rocket as soon as they have 6 cyl version STC... who knows when that will be!

Avionics of the Future?
RocketAviator replied to Wildhorsesracing's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
As a semi-retired systems integrator and small time software developer I can say with experience that what Wildhorseracing says is absolutely true... If man has a hand in it is has errors.... especially if it is called SOFTWARE... I have the G500, GTN 750 & 650 and yes I have an IPAD & Tablet in my 2 planes as well.... and I USE them! I would never depend on the IPAD & Tablet as a primary but i HAVE depended on them both just this year when during a flight we lost our primary instruments in IMC... it was an uneventful recovery and continuation of the flight to a safe location, so I am a BIG fan of redundant backup! -
While I understand chrisk comments not sure I would agree. The reliability of the mag is inherently just as much or more error or failure prone than that of the "loss of power supply" approach he suggests. For example the avionics industry have taken this into account with a small battery backup which the same principle could be used in an electronic ignition system as well. Less weight more reliable, less expensive... on and on. Also there could be the best of all worlds if one were to want to go to that extreme and piggy back electronic on top of a mag (yes it can be done) where if the electronic should fail the mag immediately and mechanically picks up. I am a big fan of safety but to me the GA has been unreasonably held back by what & whom ever and often by at least to me by the lack of information, miss information and unfounded information, especially if you want to talk facts with supporting data that is overwhelming (billions of safe hours of electronic ignition data compared to a relatively short number of mag hours). Give me the option and I would take A GOOD SAFE electronic over a Mag anytime! Better for my engine, better for fuel, more reliable... Just my 2 cents worth! Check this link out if you are interested in hi-bird electronic ignition http://www.generalaviationnews.com/2013/03/electroair-lets-electronic-ignition-kit-do-the-talking/ Fly Safe Rocket On!

I have the 750 & 650 in my Rocket and it has great roll steering to the KAP150, but if memory serves me it is done with the GAD43 as an interface. I also have the VS pre-select and Alt pre-select and this may have been the main reason for the GAD 43, just don't recall for sure I also have the 530 in my Piper Saratoga coupled to the Century 41 and not even close....

Amen!! If Bryon had not bought MY PARTS... I would have brakes on the right side of my ol bucket of bolts now!!! And because of Bryon's swift move as it is now my POOR WIFE will just have to run off the end of the runway.... that is as soon as Bryon teachers her how to fly.. oh Bryon did I forget to mention that was your penalty for STEELING MY PARTS out from underneath me.... LOL

Ditto... NOT A GOOD CHOICE for the CFII to have requested in IMC!!! Good catch RJ!
