  1. Watch the video posted by Orionflt. The car wasn't involved.
  2. I was searching same thing and found this, but I would practice on junk first. Ron Kilber's Logbook - Care and Repair of Acrylic Aircraft Windows
  3. I seem to remember the fuel pressure sending unit being less than $100.00.
  4. I had a sticking transducer. It would max at startup/runup but come back to zero at shutdown. Changed fuel pump and no change. With a second gauge on the ground was similar. we finally hooked up a airline regulator with second gauge attached and slowly raised pressure to max and back down. Discovered the transducer would stick at max until pressure came down to 20 +/- psi. then the dash gauge would drop and match second gauge. I replaced transducer. Others have said a little carb cleaner spray in the transducer has loosened them up. Good luck.
  5. I didn't know they finally got rid of the tax in PA. I had to pay the tax a couple of years ago even though the tax abatement was pending. I paid the tax when I bought the plane and they still chased me a couple of months later until I proved it was paid.
  6. I know the companies mentioned have great reputations Mine started leaking in 2012 and I called big boys but there not close. Russ at Cutting Edge Aviation (N87) resealed mine and I have had no problems.
  7. By my old instructor Jaime Pujol - 1). "It ain't over till the prop stops and the wheels chocked". 2). For wind direction when landing - "The nose always knows" Al
  8. McMaster Carr. Figure size with jetdriven's chart. You will have them the next day.
  9. Dynamic balance is the way to go. Took mine from .75 ips to .03 ips @ 2500 rpm. Huge difference. After test flight I found 2500 rpm smooth as glass but a little rough around 2000/2100. I was told they like to balance to the rpm your going to fly at. Seth, there is an IA from Binghamton NY area that comes to your airport. I believe he comes down to MD. He will also supply a 337 to go with if required. IIRC it was about $325 if you can line up several planes for his trip. Al
  10. Seth, I can't say enough good things about dynamic prop balancing. After prop overhaul with blades replaced, I had terrible vibration. Dynamic balance made all the difference in the world. IIRC my vibration was almost .7" IPS prior to balance. My annual is just finishing today. Replaced the ELT and a new battery. I have owned the plane just over a year and got in about 70 hours. In that year the plane was down for the prop and also for a broken tappet. Engine had to come apart for that. Next month it goes in for paint. After that, I hope to rack up the hours. Al
  11. Don, That was directed to marks. I find this thread interesting compared to the normal topics that get beat to death. I am all about controlled risk. I was questioning how marks controls his exposure to passengers since he noted this was the area of unknown risk. I understand and respect everyone's position. I personally don't insure old cars for collision, I don't purchase extended warranties or lottery tickets buy I do insure my hull. To each their own. Al
  12. I understand and respect your decision to self insure your hull. If I understand correctly, the only risk you can't quantify is passenger exposure. How do you contain this area other than only fly on safe days? Do you have passengers sign a waiver? Do they know? That should be an interesting passenger brief.
  13. Don't let the thread title mislead you. He carries liability insurance to protect others he may harm, but chooses to not physically cover his asset (plane). There is nothing wrong with this. He has enough assets that to loose the plane with his own actions would not affect him. Just buy another one tomorrow. The plane is obviously paid for otherwise the lender would insist on being covered.
  14. Factory installed for noise reduction. I tried to include a scan of the 82/83 sales brochure but unable to insert (poor computer skills). Al
  15. 3 mechanics = 3 man hours ($240.00). In our business each employee expects to get paid for the hours they work.
  16. KRDG has Holiday Inn express across from terminal.
  17. N14... Lumberton, NJ has Flying W resort on field. Has motel, pool, and restaurant on field. Ate there years ago, but live to close to advise on anything else. I agree, could be great new web site... I fly for food, would be nice to stay the night.
  18. Previous owner and I spent a lot of time at different shops working on my KAP 150 fixing symptoms. Lancaster Avionics in Lititiz, PA fixed the problem. Sent the plane to them and they fixed the latest symptom and the problem. Reasonable and quick.
  19. If it's on the internet, it's gotta be true...right?
  20. That's a nice shot of a sweet Mooney .
  21. I hate chasing gremlins!! I have a KAP150 that keeps having problems. Previous owner had trim servo serviced, and ap head sent back to Honeywell. System worked well for 6 months, I started having problems during "test" - unit would just keep beeping. Recycling electric trim switch (on panel) helped. Replaced switch and system worked great - for a while. After a while ap would not disengage w/o pulling breaker (intermittent of course). Found a bad transistor in head unit and replaced - worked great. Last week descending thru turbulence circuit breaker popped. Now the breaker trips immediately. I'm scheduled at the avionics shop next week. I am hoping that we can find the problem since the breaker trips right away. Which autopilot unit do you have? Let us know what you find.
  22. After many years of renting, I finally purchase my first plane last year. Once I knew I wanted a Mooney I followed mooneyspace learning all I could. Then I found a FBO that had a Mooney and did 10 hours with an instructor. My process was the same as Dr. Bill. The most informative thing was to download the "Plane Sense" booklet from the FAA. All the forms required are in the booklet as well as info on things like the title search. This info was great since I purchased from a private individual. Taxes were handled by my accountant.
  23. I wear my readers on the end of my nose for checklists, charts, and ifr and look over them for distance. Just realized I have become my father.
  24. I was told kukt has a weekend breakfast cafe. Is it good? Sorry to hijack. Al
  25. Love the site for technical info - was a huge help as I searched for and purchased a J. I get nothing out of the social crap. Don't know what I would of thought if I just opened this for the first time. Al
