  1. Did the same thing. There are a couple of Chen's. Maybe Jerry is his nick name. Bill said he was a full prof, not adjunct.
  2. Here in California, our state Franchise Tax Board is aggressive in collecting use taxes. It is my understanding that they get the FAA records and collect the use taxes.
  3. Great comments. Thank you. I am a member of AOPA and MAPA. I'll look for those articles. Looks to me like I have work to do before deciding which plane is right for me. I am clear on my mission and although the load carrying capacity of a J is a bit light, I believe it is the right plane for me. As I look at planes for sale, I realize it may take me awhile to figure out what equipment I need. I may also need to spend time understanding the condition of different planes and what that means. This will be my first plane therefore I am so unexperienced! It seems silly to start with a trainer and incur several buys and sales before I get to the plane I want.
  4. I read an article suggesting a process for purchasing a Mooney, but cannot find it. Any suggestions? Specifically, once I find a plane that I am interested in investigating for sale, how do I tie it up to begin the pre-buy inspection? Thank you,
  5. You got it, LLL! Now, what model and what equipment? I'll probably take time to figure out my mission and what equipment will work best for it. My flight instructor says, "I think after you fly a year or two, you will have a better idea what gadgets and gizmos you would like in your own plane." I'm talking to local pilots about what equipment they like.
  6. Thank you, JR. He was a great host. His '63 C looks and feels like a new sports car! The thing that most impressed me was the solid responsive controls. I was very impressed.
  7. Look, I am a rank beginner, and I don't know nothing, but I am reading. I am sure that some of you are familiar with this story: http://honeymooney.com/main_honey.htm He got a 200 hp E model and made all the speed mods. He says that because he had the Johnson bar and other parts that weighed less, he was able to carry more fuel in aux tanks, burning less fuel per hour than a J model and there for able to go more distance between fueling and has been able to circumnavigate the world. Why not an F with speed mods?
  8. I love Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Van Zant brothers and the song, but I am not a huge fan. The name seemed apt for what I was longing when I joined here and what I am trying to achieve (besides the lifelong dream) by learning how to fly. It appears to me that with the speed and efficiency of Mooney's that we are more free than in other types of airplanes. However, I suppose that there might be a greater exhilaration from flying a fast ultralight, but I haven't tried that.
  9. The elaboration is that I am a student pilot and thinking at this point that I would like to end up with a Mooney. I won't know if I want a Mooney unless I get to fly in one. Mr. JR Wilson and I have connected and we have a flight scheduled! Isn't that cool. I love this forum!!
  10. Would anyone like to have me accompany them on a flight and share costs? I live in Southeast Sacramento County and am willing to drive to where your Mooney is hangared.
