TWinter Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Just thought I would toss this out for those of you that might me wanting or thinking about the same. I spoke with JPI at Osh about upgrading my 830 unit to the now 900 (primary certified)..what would it take?. According to JPI you can't do just an upgrade using your same wiring harness etc that has been done for the 830 to the 900. FAA requires the whole harness be redone using a new 900 harness and ALL required wiring and sensors be replaced with what comes with the 900. JPI admits its the same hardware and harness, and should be just a simple plug-n-play upgrade with just a few extra steps. At this time going from 830 to 900 is a whole new install, not just add-on.. That sucks. JPI is trying to negotiate the issue or rationalize with FAA. Maybe with time it will be a plug-in-play replacement by just adding a few extra hook-ups. Not yet though. Quote
N601RX Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Based on the new EI unit that was just released, I don't think JPI is going to be selling very much of anything unless EI has problems or JPI makes some big changes to their price structure.. 1 Quote
fantom Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 I strongly suspect EI will have to comply with the same FAA harness and wiring mandate as JPI. Quote
