JetSet1967 Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Can someone point me in the right direction. I would like to purchase a CNC router/engraver to make new instrument panels for my M20C mooney. Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 You might try http://www.techshop.ws/ if you're near one of their locations and can rent time on a CNC. 1 Quote
MARZ Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Or you can point your browser to frontpanelexpress.com and save the headache Quote
FloridaMan Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 I don't think a CNC is what you'd want to use for something this size. I'd go with laser cut parts and a laser cutter for something metal that's the dimensions of a panel will cost more than I think it's worth. If you want to prototype your panel layout and make sure you have all your hole dimensions correct, buy yourself a vinyl cutter for < $400. I found having a 3D printer was a worthwhile investment. danb35 Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 Laser cutter is still CNC, as is water jet, or router. I had my panel cut with a water jet cutter at a local tech community college; I think it cost me about $20. If you really want to buy a new toy, though, and use the project to justify the purchase, something like the Fireball V90 should do the job: https://probotix.com/FireBall_v90_cnc_router_kit/ Quote
1964-M20E Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 I was at a trade show this weekend and I met this guy form S. Louisiana his company does custom panel work for industrial companies but they have the capacity to do instrument panels. You would need to give them a cad drawings with what you want. I do not know about costs but if you are working on this you could give the a call. I have no connections with them. Quote
jlunseth Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Wouldn't it be quite a bit cheaper to have someone cut the panels for you, than to buy a CNC to do it? Quote
