mph5790 Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Has anyone had an experience with this as a inexpensive way to add traffic? I used to have a TIS system but I am often outside of coverage areas in Northern Michigan. I would display it on my 696. IAlso, I wonder if my my steel bar that the compass is mounted to would have an adverse effect on reliability even though it would be mostly behind the unit. Thanks Quote
Earl Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I have a Zaon XRX in my 252 that outputs to my 696. Seems to work well although I don't rely on the direction of the target because sometimes it seems correct when I get my eyeballs on the traffic and sometimes it is way off. Either way it puts my head on a swivel when it dings. Of course the disadvantage of a PCAS system is it only paints planes with Mode C transponders. Helpful, but not total security. Still need the eyeballs. Quote
Piloto Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I was looking for one too and found this: http://www.monroyaero.com/ATD300+Brochure.pdf Looks smaller and cheaper than the Zaon. José Quote
Magnum Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 The Monroy doesn't show the direction of the traffic, so you can only compare it to the Zaon MRX. I first had the MRX, it is better than noting but can't interface with a Garmin 496/696. I really like my Zaon XRX, it is not as accurate as a "real" traffic system (like a Avidyne TAS 600), but also not as expensive. Like it was said before: Sometimes it shows the traffic right were it is, sometimes it is a "bit" off (up to 90 degrees). It is no substitute for your own eyes, but alerts you to scan for traffic. I'd buy it again immediately. PS: If you want to buy a MRX or Monroy, I might choose the Monroy as it seems tougher built. Quote

Magnum Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Do you have a link to this brochure? I only found the ATD-300. Quote
