lahso Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Good job, Bob. You handled the situation correctly, and kept your cool. These days that is very important. Thanks for updating the rest of the members. Quote
MooneyMitch Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 Thnak you PilotBob. I have learned to absolutely question the controllers when in doubt. They are human just like the rest of us and we all make mistakes. I'm sure they appreciate being prompted so as not to cause issues for us or themselves. Quote
jlunseth Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Had the same situation here at Flying Cloud, was handed off by VFR Flight Following and told to contact tower inside the airspace, but could not contact tower because they had a lost student pilot in the pattern and there was too much chatter. It was pretty clear they were very concerned about getting the student down, she was from somewhere else and on a cross country of some kind. When they confirmed she could see the airport she was directly over, they gave her clearance to land "any runway." No one threatened to violate me however. Am pretty sure that Approach had talked to tower and we were cleared in, tower was just too busy with their other situation and other pilots in the pattern to acknowledge our transmission so we fended for ourselves for awhile, as did several other pilots. It worked out. The student asked to takeoff again and do touch and goes and tower told her they were "unable." Don't know how she got home. You did a good job. They may have been a little amped up from their emergency. Quote
LuvFlying Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks PilotBob (from another Pilot Bob)! That is VERY helpful information The Note makes it very clear "NOTE The pilot is not expected to obtain his/her own authorization through each area when in contact with a radar facility." I guess I'm NOT responsible for getting my own. That's one less thing to worry about/remember. But, I may ask them, just to confirm just the same ;-) Quote: LuvFlying I was always under the impression that I was responsible for getting my clearance... that I was NOT automatically cleared via any space using flight following. Therefore about 10 miles out or so, I always ask "am I cleared". Quote
HRM Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Quote: flyguy241 Somthing similar happened to my uncle and I as we flew into Chandler in the Phoenix area a few years back. He was in contact with Phoenix approach (VFR) when they handed him off to the tower, upon landing at Chandler, the Chandler tower informed him he had violated class D airspace (I believe Phoenix Mesa Gateway). They asked who cleared him across that airspace and he indicated Phoenix approach and they dropped the issue. I just wonder if you ask approach the question "am I cleared into class delta airspace" and they indicate "yes" are you then absolved of any discrepancies between the two controling entities? Quote
