seebruce Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I have a M20K. I notice that when I first start up my alternator doesn't charge. But after a few minutes it starts charging and operates normally. I was wandering if any else has had this experience? Quote
N9937c Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 does the charge drop off when you turn on pitot heat, landing light? very well could be the shear coupling on your alternator drive. there is a service bulliten from tcm to check torque every 500 hours. QUALITY in Tulsa can rebiuld or exchange otherwise TCM is $1979.97 GASP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
seebruce Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 No, it works perfectly once it it kicks in. I'm wondering if it might be in the regulator. Quote
N9937c Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The charging systems are to be set up to "come in" at a higher speed ~1200 - 1300 rpm. Normally don't get much charge at idle. larry Quote
Piloto Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The problem looks like it is in the regulator. Leave on the master several minutes before starting the engine. If the alternator charges right after start it is a regulator problem. If not check the alternator/regulator wiring. It is not uncomon for wires on the back of the alternator to become disconnected. seebruce Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks Guys, It doesn't matter what RPM I run at it still doesn't charge. I'll try Jose's suggestion. Bruce Quote
