piperpainter Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 So I thought id go ahead and start some posts of before and then just as others have i'll do some as she gets stripped and painted....she goes in the shop 8 Feb and should be done by 13 March! The plan is to have her painted all red, with black N numbers. Depending on the extra cost I am going to try and have them paint just the vertical tail black. We'll see how that goes! Otherwise below is the color on a new Mooney. Its flight red, you won't be able to miss me! Three pictures.... 1) The example of what she should look like when done....(minus its not an Acclaim!!) 2) The girl before my most recent mods.... 3) As many know I just finished putting a new (201 Style) window in and I did some mods 4) (close to color--minus N number in black!) but the way i'd like her scheme to be if things work out money wise! More to come as she heads to the shop! Quote

piperpainter Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 yep solid red, with hopes of a black tail. And it'll be Kracon Aircraft in Lincoln, CA. I grew up in that area and have seen the work they do & like it. Plus its perfect cause I can take some leave and visit family for a week while its being done. Its also alot cheaper than WA. I'll save the price info till its at least almost done! Nope, im not a "Painter" by trade, its just my name! (username stems from when i was a kid & liked airplanes) Quote

hansel Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Bryan- congrats on soon-to-be new paint. I used Terri for repainting my lower cowl-- great guy, easy to work with. Lincoln is also my home base so let me know if you need a lift back to WA or hanger space before your bird hits the booth. Quote
mjc Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 I also had my airplane painted by Kracon. They did excellent work and kept me in the loop by emailing photos of the progress at least twice a week. I think if you give them a picture of what you really want, they'll paint it and you'll be very happy with the result. Quote
piperpainter Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 Thanks Hansel! It should go straight to the shop when I get there, hopefully the evening of the 5th. And MJC i know you got yours painted there because Erin actually sent your airplane as an example when i was trying to decide how I wanted my N number. Small world isn't it! Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Not to diminsh the Kracon product, but you may consider ArtCraft in Santa Maria. We have had 4 recent Mooney refinishing processes [including my Mooney] done at this shop. I can say that each of these planes look outstanding. Mine is show quality and Top Gun folks can vouch for the Mooney that just came out of ArtCraft a week ago. Gorgeous!! An additional Mooney from Santa Paula is going into the shop this coming Friday. I will not quote the current price, but it is substantially less than $10K. This shop is family run and they are in need of work, as probably most paint shop are given our current economy. I have no financial interest in ArtCraft. I just want anyone that may be getting their Mooney painted to have the same overwhelming joy I had when my plane was painted there. If I can help, please just ask. Quote
airkraft Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Piper, do you have a hanger at home base? Red and black do not lend well to sun exposure in my experiance. Pretty scheme, though. I'd add white/yellow checkerboard to the tail. Something like the winning flag at an Indy race? I saw a 231 like that and it made the Mooney look even faster...GK Quote
piperpainter Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 Well its western WA so I am not too worried about the sun! Plus I do have covers for most of the surfaces. And it looks like its T minus as soon as I get to Santa Maria, CA....Thanks to some very good advice. I'll let yall know how it goes! Oh and that does sound good but i'll just stick to black and then im going to put an american flag (sticker) on it! Quote
piperpainter Posted January 23, 2010 Author Report Posted January 23, 2010 Dropped her off after a very interesting trip down from WA to Cali...more the weather in CA....which is wierd cause usually its the weather in WA I have a problem with! Anyway T minus 1 week and I am suppose to have her back so I can fly her home to WA! Can't wait!!!! Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Hi Bryan. ArtCraft produced Chris Floyd's Mooney paint process in one week, so you have a very good chance as well. It all depends on their workload of course. You are going to be most pleased, I'm sure. Congratulations. I can't wait to see that RED Mooney with the black tail! Unique, that's for sure. Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Bryan. Peeked in the paint shop window this morning, and your Mooney has undergone the initial strip process. Looking good! Quote
piperpainter Posted January 23, 2010 Author Report Posted January 23, 2010 I like how i have eyes peaking in for me! If you go by again take a picture for me and send it via phone if you would! Its amazing since I dropped it off at 12 yesterday and they already got to that point! Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Happy to do so. I pretty much go the airport daily, flying or otherwise, so I will snap some progressive shots for you. Bringing the other Mooney from Santa Paula into the shop probably Monday, weather permitting. This is such a cool win win for everyone! These nice folks stay in business and many Mooneys are getting awesome paint jobs! Life is good!! Quote
piperpainter Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 looks like they beat you to it Mitch! This is very exciting....its her in a whole new way! Quote
testwest Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 Bryan, very cool! Can't tell after re-reading the posts, did you wind up at ArtCraft or stick with Kracon for the painting..... Quote
mooneygirl Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 ArtCraft in Santa Maria, CA They are family owned and are doing wonderful paint jobs in our Mooney Community. Under $10K cash price. http://www.artcraftpaint.com/ Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 Once again, Jolie and I have no financial interest in ArtCraft at all. We are simply wanting to let everyone know how proud we are of the paint job they put on our Mooney. Sharing this fact with you all. It is a win win situation there. We got a "stunning" paint job at a most reasonable price................eveybody wins here. We're trying to help these people stay in business in this tough economic time, by spreading the word about their quality. Quote

testwest Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 Very cool, hope the paint job turns out wonderfully! We have a highly modded 201 that needs paint too, would LOVE to see yours when you get it, you're at Tacoma Narrows? We are in the Arlington area. Off topic, picture of a TCM C-17 on the Antarctic ice on the front page of the Seattle paper today, looks awesome. Quote
hansel Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 We're all pretty excited to see how this one turns out... no pressure, ARTCRAFT ! Quote
MooneyMitch Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 I just viewed the two Mooneys at SMX ArtCraft. Bryan's is getting prepared for the primer coat and the Santa Paula Mooney, which came in on Monday, is now fully stripped. Can't wait to see the final product. Quote
piperpainter Posted January 27, 2010 Author Report Posted January 27, 2010 Yep, just as Mitch said they are suppose to start some of the painting today. Hopefully they will send me a picture this evening. I was lucky to get pictures this morning. For some reason I had some bad dreams last night it was good to see my baby was okay! edit.... here is the black tail and black gear! Quote
