tclimb Posted November 11 Report Posted November 11 Hello everybody. I have my eye on a F, but came across a E with electric gear that checks off 99.9% of my want list. It's a 65, so I know the electric gear is after-market. I have a bad shoulder, so manual Johnson bar not really an option. The loss of the inches from an F not a deal breaker. I know all Mooney owners have very passionate opinions, and I would love to read both positive and negative thoughts on the after market electric landing gear if you have a minute or two. Thank you!
DCarlton Posted November 11 Report Posted November 11 I don’t know if calling it after market is correct. My F went immediately from the Mooney line to the company that installed the electric gear along with other components; perhaps the Brittain PC system too. I think it was on the same air field. Dugosh maybe? Check the early logs and weight and balance. It’s likely in there. It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed it so I’ve forgotten the details. If you can’t find it LMK and I’ll pull down my files.
Yetti Posted November 11 Report Posted November 11 You are going to want to look up and see what Actuator is in there. They are all pretty good, just have to maintain them.
Hank Posted November 11 Report Posted November 11 Mooney wasn't using Dukes then, unless it's been replaced. My 1970 C has ITT
MikeOH Posted November 11 Report Posted November 11 FWIW, I was set on buying a manual gear Mooney to avoid the 'issues' with early model electric gear (Dukes and ITT; there's an AD and SB for both). But when I found my F model it checked 99.9% of my requirements; the electric gear was the 0.1% Thing is, in eight years of ownership I've had no problems with the electric gear. I have been meticulous about following the 100 and 200 hour service required by the AD and described in SB M20-190. 2
Mark Staggs Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 I have a 1965 C model that had the electric gear installed, I think, within a month of coming out of the factory. I would've preferred manual gear. I've had it for 5 years with little issue and make sure the AD is complied with (100 and 200 hour). The only issue I've had is that the airspeed safety switch got a little finicky this year (not immediately retracting), and I had to track down a replacement. The switch appeared to be the original Dukes switch so I hope I can get another 60 years out of the new one.
tclimb Posted November 12 Author Report Posted November 12 Huge thank you to everybody. This has been very helpful. I appreciate your time. This will be my first plane purchase. Sometimes I don't even know what questions to ask. I have learned there is a wealth of knowledge at MS, and I'm so grateful that people are willing to share. Thank you again...Todd 1
