I have the lenses too and if I recall they are around $380 a side or so. I already bought and installed the recog lights from you. Now considering replacing the nav/strobe combos. The parts catalong for M-20M lists teh assemblies as Whelen A650-PR-D-M and A650-PG-D-M, respectively. What would be the parts for all LED replacement for these two? I found one part that has LED nav light with a regular strobe tube, but that is not what I would want.

Would love to get replacement, but as with most Mooney parts these days they seem to be made of unobtainium. It would be a nice complement to the wingtip light kits that you sell for Mooneys. I have someone at work that likes to tool around with a 3d printer and said he can scan objects with his phone. Maybe I'll try that and see how it goes to make a replacement plastic piece, will report back.

Other candidates that will work are the Pulsar 650, which carries a wide range STC, and the straight Whelen Orion 650. The Orion 650E is preferred because its LED anti-collision light provides 90 degrees of coverage while the Pulsar 650 and straight Whelen Orion 650 provide 180 degrees of anti-collision light coverage. The wing structure will blank that out. https://www.gallagheraviationllc.com/WAT-14V-Red-6501RE-Wingtip-Light_p_168.html <-- Left wing Orion 650E https://www.gallagheraviationllc.com/AeroLEDs-12V-Red-Pulsar-650-Wingtip-Light_p_504.html <-- Left wing Pulsar 650 https://www.gallagheraviationllc.com/WAT-14V-Red-6501R-Wingtip-Light_p_166.html <-- Left wing Orion 650

This is for the 1998 M20J Allegro. 1. The strobe light was a A610 2. The Powerpack was in the Avionics panel for the wingtips. (Didnt find one when I removed the 2nd panel from the wingtip) 3. It did have a recog light. Its just inconspicous and tucked in. 4. There seems to be a tail powerpack in the back but didnt open that panel to see. If I have to do the LED conversion, this may be simpler for the wingtips since the wiring seems to originating inside the avionics bay. Attaching pictures for the keen eye to spot anything. Pictures attached. Yes it looks like that Whelen HDACF is only powering your wingtip strobe lights. Also attached is how your wing can look with it converted to LED. The position/anti-collision light is called the Orion 650E and then I have an LED recognition light that will replace that halogen lamp. That halogen lamp if left on while operating on the ground will melt your lenses.

My plane is 28V so I guess I would need the Orion 6502 GE and RE as a minor alteration. Looking at the tail beacon options, I noticed that my plane currently has only strobe on the tail (identified in IPC as 470013-501) and no position light as the white rear-facing position lights are on the wings in this model. What would be the Whelen replacement for the strobe only tail beacon? TIA.

It is a combined LED position and strobe light. There are no known LED strobe only lights on the market amongst any brand but the Orion 500 will fit and you can cap and stow the LED position light wire so the strobe only works. Some Mooney owners have run wire back there to activate the LED position light. It is your call. There are no known LED position light bulbs for the trailing edge wingtip lights. Only halogen replacements, which is okay, because we still have those and Whelen still manufacturers them. Some Mooney owners have had varied success finding off the shelf LED replacements but in my opinion more failure than success there.

LEDs have a low fail rate, but if one did go out it would still allow you to dispatch at night as far as replacing bulbs, no way would I ever replace a incandescent bulb with anything other than a LED or HID. The factory incandescent bulbs are not STCed ether, lots of folks make swapping to LEDs way more complicated than it is when you ditch the old strobe system remember to take out the boxes and all the other old junk that goes with them too, it’s a great and cheap upgrade going to LED strobes Edited August 10 by Jackk

I am one who had a position light wire run to the tail Orion 500 while they did my avionics upgrade. There are LED replacements for the halogen wingtip lights, but from places like the aviation section of eBay. I have heard they are difficult to replace as the cover piece of glued in. And if you put LEDs in them, your annunciator panel goes permanent dim.

It is my understanding that the covers are pretty hard to find. The older bi-pin sockets in these lights are no longer available, except perhaps in the aviation deprtment of your local lighting store, and changeing the sockets is also not fun.
