Hank Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Read about this off-field landing in other sources, this one said the foor was open . . . Don't stop flying the plane because something isn't right. At least everyone seems to have survived, although impact damage and fire seem to have destroyed numerous vehicles in the parking lot. https://news.sky.com/story/plane-with-open-door-crashes-into-retirement-home-car-park-13325474 Quote

Oscar Avalle Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Yes, the most important thing is to fly the airplane and focus on the essentials. This happened to me not long ago taking off from a grass strip. I decided to fly to a larger airport with the door open. It was not very pleasant but doable. Here are two videos with the take off and the landing. landing As you can see not to complicated, as long as you focus on flying. 1 Quote
Pinecone Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 When I instructed, pre-solo the window (Cessna) would pop open. Strange how it always happened at about 500 AGL on the instructor side. The topic was discussed a couple of times pre-solo. Quote
A64Pilot Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 (edited) It seems almost every year someone crashes after a door pops open, never understood why. A couple of years ago someone had I think a Cessna Corvalis I think it’s called door pop open, being as it’s one of those cool gull wing doors it tore off of the aircraft, apparently it didn’t take the tail off and they went around and landed. I guess it’s happened more than once, one guy even opened the door. How do you do that face palm emoji? At least he owned up to it. https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/291808 https://www.aerotime.aero/articles/32818-cessna-door-falls-off-lands-in-parking-lot Edited March 10 by A64Pilot Quote
201er Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 Here’s a discussion we had with a bunch of links and videos to door coming open in flight scenarios. I see so much carelessness about it and such severe outcomes. Quote
cliffy Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 Happened to a Citation at KVNY many years ago. They made a smoking hole returning just because of a nose locker door. We need more open cockpit training before solo! :-) Quote
