BrettD Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Hey there I just bought an M20B and I am having some problems with my throttle. I believe the part number is 660190-003. The button is stuck inward, causing the throttle to move around freely. It was somewhat dangerous because when you put the throttle in idle it slides itself in and starts adding power when you are trying to land(float \ bounced landing) if it is not held outward. Is there some way to remove the button\knob and repair it? I looked all over the internet but never found anything. I wanted to see what the best options are. Quote

McFarlane is the go-to for replacement throttle/prop/mixture cables. I think they’re even PMA’d for Mooney now, as opposed to an owner produced part. 1 Quote

I have the M20B. And it's out of stock unfortunately. Is there any way to repair the button on my cable? or is it a lost cause and needs replacement? Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 Shoot some lube around the button and push it a zillion times. It will probably loosen up. In this case, too much is just right. Also shoot some where it goes into the panel. You have nothing to lose. 1 Quote

I’m not sure, but that throttle cable doesn’t look factory. I could be wrong. Regardless, as N201MKTurbos suggests, you could try spraying some silicone spray, or maybe some LPS2 in the to see it if the button can be freed up. If that doesn’t work, McFarlane is still your best bet. They can provide you with the paperwork to fulfill the requirements of an owner produced part. It wasn’t that long ago that McFarlane had only the mixture cable PMA’d for vintage Mooney’s, and I did the paperwork for the throttle and prop governor to replace all three at the same time. 1 Quote

There is a process that is described on their website: https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/customs/custom-push-pull-controls/ 2 Quote
cliffy Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 Call me crazy but that is not the original throttle cable. And, it is far too gone for repair considering the consequences if it fails Two options: 1) McFarland and they will help with building a legal new one 2) Any number of aircraft salvage yards will have a workable unit but it will likely be an original type (not vernier) In reality one doesn't need a vernier type anyway as most flying is done at WOT on 4 banger Mooneys. A new one is a "cost of operation" in the aviation world. 3 Quote
65MooneyPilot Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 I have replaced two control cables in the last 6 years. I ordered them from LASAR and when I received the factory cables they both had McFarland tags on them. So just go to McFarland first. It is where the factory cables are made now. Quote

I looked at some other M20B models on trade a plane and they seem to have the identical setup. 1 Quote

phxcobraz Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago I got a basically brand new one for my C from a salvage yard, had McFarlane tags on it. McFarlane does have most part numbers they can make a cable for, but when I talked to them they said safest bet is to just send yours in and they will duplicate. Quote
