I bought a 1968 M20G with 32 gallons per wing back in May 2024, pre buy found leaks on both wings. The seller had them repaired but I now have a new leak on right side. I decided to to get both wings totally stripped and resealed. Mooney service center quoted $3500.00 per wing, got a quote from Wet Wingologist for 6150.00 per wing with a 7 year warranty. Any recommendations on which one to go with?

 Thanks for your input.

I called Don Maxwell Aviation again, they have a 7 year warranty also, it’s almost half the price and 800 miles closer. I believe I will go with Maxwell.

This must be a new service they offer. Years ago I believe they only did patches and referred re-seals to other shops.

It makes sense though since they now own the STC for Monroy Long Range Tanks, which need to be sealed.

That price from Maxwell is really good!  My right inboard fuel bay spung a leak back in November.  Paul, at Weep-no-More, quoted me $4,200 a side for a complete strip and reseal but he was booked 18 months out.  Edison, the Wet-Wingologist, had availablity two months out and was $5,850 a side.  I finally found out that my home airport had a new guy working at the FBO who specializes in jet fuel tanks.  He stripped and resealed just that leaking bay for $2,500.

I am going to pick mine up from Eddie at Wet-wingologist this Thursday. Flying down on Delta in just a few hours.
Had to have my drain AD done and some issues caused by a previous owners patch job corrected which drove the price up from the original quote.

Does anyone know the punch code for the walkthrough gate at the corner of the Wet-wingologist hangar?

Let us know how it goes!    That's a great price and they're as reputable as they come.     They did some patches to my tanks about seven years ago and they're still fine.    It'd be great to have another place to get this done.

That was 7 years ago? Damn how time flies.

I know!   Doesn't feel like it.   Seems crazy.

I just called over there because I'm concerned a tank reseal is in my near future. Spoke with Paul Maxwell - a super nice guy. He thought it unlikely my 94 O would need a full strip and reseal, but if it did, he could get me in around October at 6k per side, which is the same price as the other guys that do it. They offer a 7-year warranty. Great to know the options out there - He's definitely closer to me than Florida.

I thought for a while they were using the guy in Houston.

He said they are doing them because they now own the Monroy STC and more often than not its the Monroy + strip and reseal. The other group is Houston Tank Specialists, also a good shop, I hear.

When I was there, Edison told me which gate to come to, and he picked me up in his golf cart. We went to the very nice. Banyan FBO to pay the fuel bill, then back to his shop.

When I was there in 2011, Edison picked me up at the hotel and I didn’t have to worry about it.

I will, schedule to do it is mid September.
