I have the original sun visors in my 1988 M20J 205 Se but the clips are falling off. Is there an easy fix for this? Also I do have a new set of Rosen visors I was debating to install but I'm not sure how to remove the old ones and how to install the new ones as the new ones seem to have a larger screw.

Any help would be appreciated.

As you seem to be on the fence about installing them, let me suggest you do not, and save your money.

I installed the Rosen visors in my old J and was not happy with them.   They are well made, but I think the Mooney cabin and windshield shape are just not improved with them.  Despite being much larger, they did not do much to block additional sun.  I think it was due to how far back you are from the windshield edge.  In addition, the attachment to the pivot would always get loose, so I had to keep a screwdriver handy to tighten it everytime I swung it to the side window.  That was my greatest annoyance, as it meant I could not ignore them.  It would be great if Rosen had a better attachment that did not torque the mountaing screw everytime you swung the visor to the side, but they would still add little sun blockage, in my opinion.

YMMV, and others may have better experience.  It seems from reading MS, the LASAR visors, long discontinued, got better reviews.  And some homemade lenses that used the original mounting have done very well.

I’ll bet nearly everyone has the problem of loose visor screws. I have always wondered whether a tiny amount of blue loctite wouldn’t take care of that. I should talk, I tell myself every time I get in the aircraft that I need to go through the visors and do that, but keep forgetting to take out sample screws so I can go to the hardware store and try to replace them. Good reminder. I am going to do that today.

I bet I could cut Rosen shades down to the size and shape of mine (and the same as LASARs), and I wouldn't even charge for it. It would cost you both ways of shipping, Which is likely to run about $50. We would have to look and make sure the Rosens are bigger in each dimension.

Dan,

Give me a call (214 207-6744) or send me an e-mail (muncy-d@hotmail.com) or a PM, with details about which joint it is that isn't tight enough. We can figure out how to make it work right, whether I have to make you a new part, or whatever.
