Noticed I have a small oil leak between the oil filter adapter housing and the accessory case. Per the Lycoming parts manual it looks like it's a LW-12795 gasket, superseded by 06B23862.  Thing is, while the illustration shows only one gasket, the part table shows two!  1970 M20F, IO-360A1A. Anyone know what's correct?

I post this for anyone in the future who is as confused as I was by this situation.

I emailed Lycoming and they answered the question definitively:

"No, if you do not have the spacer, you would not need to put two gaskets there."

The 'spacer' he refers to, which is NOT in the diagram above (nor in my engine), applies to some configurations in which a spacer is inserted between the oil filter adapter and the accessory case (I found this out in my research; I believe the O-235, for example, has a spacer).  Obviously, with the spacer, you need a gasket on either side of the spacer.  Hence, the quantity 2 shown in the table.  I have no idea if any of the other engine models in the (I)O-360 table above have the spacer, or not.

Personally, I think Lycoming should add some type of clarification note to the diagram/show the alternate config with spacer, or make a correction to the table as to the correct number of gaskets.
