billy hellcat Posted July 29, 2023 Report Posted July 29, 2023 Got a 68 m20c. It has the old square cluster engine gauges . Oil temp is normal on the ground then inflight it goes off the scale to the right. Hot!. Oil pressure and cylinder temps are normal. Not burning any oil. So all appears normal. Previous owner said it always did that and was never really concerned. I want it fixed. I have a JPI 700 and am at Oshgosh right now. JPI said to just add an oil temp probe to the JPI. It wouldn’t be primary though. I thought this would be a good idea. What could be the problem ? Or what should I do. Not interested in spending money on new JPI. Thanks Quote

Thanks Read a post similar to this a couple of days ago. Might have been @kortopates who said if a wire is broken, gauge goes off scale to the right. Quote
Utah20Gflyer Posted July 30, 2023 Report Posted July 30, 2023 I had this exact problem with my 68 G model. It was solved by taking apart all the connections and thoroughly cleaning them and then reassembling. Has worked perfectly ever since. FYI a working oil temp gauge is a required piece of equipment so you are correct in wanting to get this issue fixed. I don’t get why people think it’s ok to let an issue like that persist for years sometimes without addressing it. 1 Quote
BDPetersen Posted July 30, 2023 Report Posted July 30, 2023 The oil temp addition to the JPI is great. If it is like mine, the readings are higher than the stock gauge owing, I suppose, to the pick-up location. I generally see 198 deg on the JPI. Quote
