hubcap Posted April 15, 2023 Report Posted April 15, 2023 Hopefully Myrtle will be finished up in the next week or so. I am wanting to try checklists on my G3X. Anyone have any experience with the Garmin checklist editor? What is the level of difficulty? Quote
RoundTwo Posted April 15, 2023 Report Posted April 15, 2023 It’s easy. You can cut and paste items on the let side to speed things up and not have to type each one. I can give you mine for seed material if you’d like. 1 Quote
hubcap Posted April 16, 2023 Author Report Posted April 16, 2023 Thank you for the download. I will use this to create my own. I assume you find the panel based checklist acceptable?... Quote

In full disclosure, I only flew with mine once before the regulator problem and that is when I figured out having “Master Switch - ON” in an electronic check list wouldn’t work. Since then, I redid most everything and put in the lists for different flight phases. Hopefully soon, I’ll fly with them and remove the stuff that isn’t helpful. Mine are overly detailed because I’m trying to force my self back into the checklist habit. To answer your question, yes. On the G3X, the checklist is on the MFD so I just use the inner knob to “check” each item and it auto advances to the next item. Quote

I find it to have very few difficulties, but be aware the checklist editor can only be edited on a PC and not a Mac as it uses a file system (.ace) that does not support Mac computers. My own preference is not to tap the checkbox as it can be hit and miss and particularly difficult in turbulence. If using the button push to check off each item, you need to look at what you are doing. I find this is not ideal in a busy environment such as the pattern when you're looking for traffic, transmitting to other aircraft or conversing with ATC. I find it much easier and faster to use the checklist as I would a laminated checklist by just reading it off the screen. When conducting an instrument approach, I prefer to display the approach chart on the MFD for the entire approach instead of two screen taps to display the checklist then another two taps to bring back the approach chart, so instead I read the checklist items from my iPad that I previously prepared in .PDF format. These are my own personal preferences and you will also develop your own. It is a very good checklist system. 1 Quote
