Mark89114 Posted August 16, 2022 Report Posted August 16, 2022 Flying along fat dumb and happy and I see the EGT's have climbed.....look over at fuel flow and it has increased by about a gallon, readjust mixture and continue down the virtual road and see it happens again, now I am paying attention as I mentally think about the fuel controller going bad or something else dramatic. I decide that certainly is the worst case situation so I put a pencil mark on the mixture control and if it didn't turn in 33% of a revolution all by itself over the course of several minutes. Is it possible to tighten this cable setup? I would assume it is just some type of friction pad somewhere. Any thoughts? Quote
Guest Posted August 17, 2022 Report Posted August 17, 2022 Many engine cables have an adjustable friction sleeve, if yours does. Hold the body of the cable behind the pane, loosen the panel nut at the knob end, reach behind the panel and turn the aft nut half a turn toward the firewall, then tighten the panel nut, this should squeeze the friction sleeve a bit more. Mark89114 Posted August 17, 2022 Author Report Posted August 17, 2022 Thanks Clarence, will take a look at it near future and provide some feedback. Quote
carusoam Posted August 18, 2022 Report Posted August 18, 2022 If that doesn’t work… We kind of know the knob supplier… Check the age/hours of the controls… They are good for replacement about the same timeframe as engine TBO…. Make sure there isn’t something falling apart… MSers have had a few of the engine controls fall apart at various times over the years… PP thoughts only, -a- Quote
mcarterak Posted August 24, 2022 Report Posted August 24, 2022 I have the exact same issue, except mine likes to vibrate and rotate lean. Probably going to install all new McFarlane stuff. Quote

Great if you can remember to keep an eye on it… If not familiar… read up on the ‘red box’ the area where detonation occurs… Kind of a fix sooner, rather than wait til later…. PP thoughts only, not a mechanic… Best regards, -a- Quote
mcarterak Posted August 30, 2022 Report Posted August 30, 2022 Oh definitely. I hawk it like crazy, especially down low. 1 Quote

To get proper tension on mine I had to loosen the nut on the back a few turns and take up the slack with the front nut which compresses the sleeve that sets the friction. Skip Quote
