There were some issues with the early full synthetics. The leaking did happen. The convention oils had some light fractions that caused seals to swell. After a lot of miles, the seals were worn a bit. Full synthetic, the seals shrank and leaked. So they added a bit of light fraction to keep the seals swollen.
